"I'm scared." Jessica let out as she looked herself over once more, she was meeting up with Mateo in less than an hour.
Alexis stood by with her arms crossed. "For what? The hard part is out the way. You already told him you were pregnant."
That much was true, but they were meeting in person about it. This was much harder to Jessica. "Still Alexis, we're meeting up about me being pregnant."
Alexis smiled, "is that all you're nervous about? You look mighty cute and you keep looking yourself over." Jessica rolled her eyes, of course she didn't want to look a mess when she saw him but it was nothing like she was trying to make it seem. "Yes, that's all I'm nervous about."
A knock came through on her door as she looked at Alexis, "what you looking at me for? I don't live here. I don't have anybody coming over."
"I don't either," Jessica stated as she made her way to the door. She was surprised to see Dwayne. She opened the door all smiles as even more nerves took over her, she felt like she was cheating on him by meeting up with Mateo. "Hey baby" she cooed. He kissed her on her lips before responding. "Hey babe, I was nearby so I thought I'd stop by." He walked in spotting Alexis. "What's up Lex?" He nodded his head in her direction. She gave a small smile and wave.
"What you two about to get into?" Alexis was quick on her feet with a response. "Girls day." She smiled, "about to go eat in a bit." Dwayne nodded, "well that's what's up. Don't let me get in the way. I'm going to use the bathroom and grab a water and then I guess I'll get up with you later baby."
Jessica nodded just as her phone's text tone went off. She looked down at the unknown number as she unlocked her phone to read it. Hey, it's Mateo. We still on for 3?
She quickly responded with a yes. Mateo always liked to double check the day of, he hated to waste his time and people didn't show or canceled super last minute.
He locked his phone after reading the message putting his attention back on Sofia as she talked about something she wanted to do while they were here. He told her he had a last minute meeting here, which wasn't a lie he just didn't tell her what he was meeting about. But she was more than thrilled to go, she loved coming to San Fran.
He rethought about being in public with Jessica after Sofia mentioned some places she wanted to go, it would look bad if he got caught in the public eye with her, he typically didn't get hit by the media. But when any pro athlete is seen with another woman the media will definitely draw attention to it. He sent her a quick text asking if they could just meet at her place.
Jessica hesitated as she read the message, she looked up at Alexis as she neared her. Dwayne was in the bathroom and she didn't want him to hear her. "He asked to meet here," she said lowly.
Alexis nodded, "that makes sense. It will look bad if the media catches it."
Jessica realized she made a decent point, she looked around her apartment happy that she cleaned up the day before. She sent him a quick yes as she dropped her location.
"Okay baby, I'm out!" Dwayne said coming up from behind. He kissed the side of her face as he placed his hands on her hips. She slightly turned telling him okay, he said bye to Alexis and made his way out.
Alexis grabbed her purse, waiting a few minutes to where she felt like Dwayne was long gone "well I should probably head out too. It's 2:30pm so I'm sure he'll be heading this way soon." She made her way to the door as Jessica followed, they said their goodbyes and then Jess closed and locked the door. "Now the waiting game," she spoke to herself as she went and plopped on the couch.
Within twenty minutes there was a knock on her door. "Early," she said to herself looking at the time. She got up opening the door as Mateo stood there in all of his beautiful glory. He had on an all black fit, with a thing gold chain around his neck. "Hey," he smiled as his pearly whites shined through as well as that one dimple. Jessica automatically getting weak in the knees as his eyes pierced into hers, stop it. This man is taken and so are you. She reminded herself. "Hey!" She smiled back as she moved to the side so that he could walk in.
He took in the place before focusing his eyes back on her. She had on some jeans with an off the shoulder shirt. Light makeup on her face and her hair was straightened coming just a little above her boobs. She was definitely still beautiful to him, it wasn't just the alcohol. "Please sit down," she motioned as she took a seat on the couch opposite of the one he was near. He did as he was asked.
He ran a hand over his face, remembering his reason for being here. He sighed, "so you're pregnant and you think it's mine?" Part of him believed this could be true he had left with the same number of condoms that he took on the trip, so he knew they didn't use protection. But the other part of him knew he couldn't put it past someone trying to get him because of his money. Early in his career before he started dating Sofia he dealt with plenty of girls trying to trap him or use him as a come up.
Jessica chuckled lightly, "no. More like I know." He licked his lips as he leaned up, resting his elbows on his thigh. "How so? You said you have a boyfriend right?" She nodded, "yes, but we hadn't had sex at all the month before and we were broken up when you know that night happened with you. And according to my doctor I'm only four weeks, well five at this point. So that would only leave you."
Mateo cleared his throat at the confession of this. Knowing he really might be the father of somebody who is not Sofia's child was a scary thought. How the hell would he tell her this? They were broken up when it happened, but that shit wouldn't fly with her. They were broken up for all of a few days. Mateo leaned back on the couch, "You have any other one night stands?"
Jessica was offended. She was far from that type of girl, she chuckled as she ruffled her hair. She looked at him, offense clear on her face, "no, I didn't."
He looked at her trying to see if she was telling the truth. "And you want to keep it right?" Of course she did, and he knew that otherwise he wouldn't even have been here.
She sighed as she rolled her eyes, "yeah, don't have it in me to do anything else."
Mateo huffed as he ran a hand through his hair. "So now what?" Jessica shrugged her shoulders, "I don't know!" She semi-yelled. "I was totally unprepared for this, like I don't even know you. I have a man, like how the hell to do I tell him I'm pregnant with someone else's baby because I slept with someone else in the week we were broken up? Like what the fuck am I doing. My first one night stand I get fucking pregnant. I barely remember that night." She stood up, a range of emotions hitting her as tears started to form. Not now Jessica. She tried to coach herself not to cry.
Mateo was slightly taken aback, but completely understood. They were in the same boat except for with the one night stand if she was telling the truth, but it was slightly worst for him. He stood up, not the best at dealing with people crying, he rubbed the back of his neck. "Jessica, I get it. I have a girl, I barely remember the night. But now we're here. Dwelling on the shit isn't going to do anything."
She turned facing him as she used her palms to wipe her eyes. She crossed her arms. "Then now what Mateo?" He just looked at her, just as unsure as she was. Just as unhappy about the situation as her. "I don't know," he said lowly. He dropped his hand from his neck, looking down in the process. "I don't know," he said again. "We'll take it a day at a time. That's all we can do."
She nodded in agreement, his phone went off as he saw a text come through from Sofia asking if they can add one more thing on the list of things to do while in San Fran. He shook his head as he locked his phone looking back up at Jessica who was now seated on her couch, her eyes on him. She couldn't help but to admire his looks, even in the mist of distress he still looked good.
His eyes trailed over her body before connecting back to her eyes. "Umm, you have my number. If you need anything you can just text me. I need to get going."
Jessica stood up, "okay," she let out lowly as she kept her eyes connected with his. "Do you want to know when I have my appointments and stuff?" She crossed her arms feeling super weird about even having this conversation.
He nodded his head, "yeah for sure." He started walking towards the door as she followed. He turned around again facing her as he stuffed his hands in his pockets trying to think of the right way to say what he wanted to ask, he knew he had to do it in person. "Would you mind doing a non-invasive paternity test while you're pregnant? Like I just need to be sure, this is a lot to commit to, a lot at risk for me as far my relationship and all that goes."
Jessica was astonished at the question, she was offended and she was bothered but she had to take a step back to realize they didn't know each other and he was a pro athlete. Barely though, who even watches baseball like that. She thought but regardless of the matter they were the highest paid athletes. She wanted to tell him no and that she wasn't that type of girl. She would never just pin a baby on someone, but plenty of girls probably said that who did just that.
She sighed putting her pride aside. "As long as it's truly non-invasive." And she knew that had test out there like that with all of the world's advances.
Mateo was surprised she took so well to it, he definitely didn't expect for it to go that smooth. "Okay cool. Well I did some research and I found a doctor who can do it in San Diego, I can fly you out and we can get it done. The earliest they can do it is 8 weeks."
Jessica nodded, "okay. That's three weeks from now. Text me or call me and we'll set it up."
"Okay," he took his hands out his pocket as one hand came out with car keys, he rented a car while there. "We'll be in touch," and with that he made his way out heading back to Sofia.
