Chapter 29: 25. He is Back

Owned by YouWords: 19201

It’s been a grueling six weeks in Italy. Darshil and Daksh have been working tirelessly to wrap up their business deals, solidifying Darshil’s influence over his mafia connections and successfully completing their dangerous gold mission. The atmosphere in the office is one of relief but also satisfaction. Stacks of documents are scattered on the table, and Daksh, always the prankster, is leaning back in his chair, tossing a pen in the air.

Daksh stretches.

Man, if I have to sit in another one of these boring meetings, I’m going to throw myself off a Roman rooftop. Daksh said

You say that every time, yet here you are, still in one piece. Darshil said

Only because of you, boss. If it weren’t for your serious face scaring everyone, I’d have gotten us kicked out weeks ago. Darshil said

Darshil stands by the window, gazing out at the Roman skyline. The job is done, the mission complete, but his mind is already on something—or someone—else. Aarvi. It’s been far too long since he saw her last, and the ache of missing her has grown into something unbearable.

You’re thinking about her, aren’t you? Daksh said with a teasing smile.

It’s time to go home, Daksh. Darshil said

Daksh’s face lights up with a mischievous grin as he pushes his chair back with a dramatic flourish.

Finally! I’ve been dying to get back to some proper Indian food and, let’s be real, to stir up some drama at the airport. Daksh said in a dramatic tone.

Let’s just get on the plane, Daksh. Darshil said after rolling his eyes.

They both take their seats and the flight takes off.

Ahhh, Italy, I’ll miss you. But it’s time to leave this boring mafia life behind and go back to some real action in Mumbai—my fan club’s waiting. Daksh said

Fan club? You mean the group of ladies you keep flirting with? Darshil said with a smirk

Flirting? It’s called ‘charm,’ my dear friend. A delicate art you wouldn't understand. Daksh said

Darshil chuckled, shaking his head

______________

As soon as Darshil and Daksh step off the plane, the humid warmth of Mumbai greets them. The airport is bustling with activity, travelers moving quickly from gate to gate, but Daksh is ready to put on a show. He dramatically clutches his chest and gasps, drawing the attention of nearby passengers.

Ah, Mumbai! My beloved city! How I’ve missed you! Daksh said loudly

Darshil shakes his head, trying to walk ahead, but Daksh is having none of it. He throws an arm around Darshil’s shoulders, pretending to cry.

Look at me, Darshil! After six long weeks, I’ve returned home a changed man! The Italian wine, the pasta—it’s all a blur! Only the sight of vada pav and chai can cure me now! Daksh said wiping his fake tears.

You’re making a scene, Daksh. I thought you’d be more professional after all the work in Italy. Darshil said sarcastically.

Professional? Where’s the fun in that? Daksh asked

As they walk through the airport, several people begin to recognize Darshil and Daksh, nodding respectfully or whispering to each other. Daksh waves at a few of them, adding to his over-the-top behavior.

Yes, yes, your hero has returned! No need to applaud! Daksh said

I don’t know how you’ve managed to survive all these years. Darshil said

Daksh finally laughs.

Because you’d miss me too much, boss. Daksh said as they get in the car

As the car pulls up to the mansion, Darshil feels his pulse quicken. He’s been away for too long, and he’s ready to see his family—especially Aarvi. Daksh is still full of energy, humming a Bollywood tune as they step out of the car.

The moment Darshil steps inside, Nandini ji, Poorva, and Ruhi rush to greet him. The joy in their faces is undeniable as they embrace him warmly.

It’s good to have you back, beta. Nandini ji said

Bhai, You survived Italy with Daksh bhai? That’s a miracle. Poorva said in a teasing tone.

I’ll have you know, I’m the reason Darshil stayed sane! Daksh said

Ruhi, runs to Darshil and wraps her arms around his legs.

I missed you chachu. Ruhi said

Darshil picks her up, smiling softly at his family. But his eyes search the room, and then, there she is—Aarvi.

Aarvi stands near the staircase, wearing a simple yet elegant kurta, her long hair cascading over her shoulders. She looks slightly hesitant but also relieved. Their eyes lock, and Darshil feels a wave of emotion he hadn’t expected. Without thinking, he strides toward her.

Uh-oh.... Here we go. Daksh said looking at Darshil

Without thinking, overwhelmed by the joy of being home, Darshil strides over to her. Before she can react, Darshil hugs her tightly, and closed his eyes, Darshil lifts Aarvi into his arms and spins her around, his smile wide and genuine. Aarvi gasps in surprise, her hands instinctively grabbing onto his shoulders.....

Aarvi, though initially startled by the closeness, can’t help but laugh as he spins her.

There’s a warmth in her chest she hasn’t felt in a long time. Even though she’s still hesitant about his affection, she’s undeniably happy to see him again.

Darshil! Put me down! Aarvi said with a embarrassing smile.

I’ve missed you Hazel. Darshil said as he buried his head on her shoulder, feeling the fragrance of her hair.

I… I’m glad you’re back. Aarvi said

As Darshil gently sets her back down, he gazes into her eyes, the connection between them deeper than ever. He can feel her hesitation, but he also sees the joy in her eyes—a joy she can’t fully hide.

There it is, folks! The Bollywood reunion scene! I knew it! Daksh said while clapping.

Stop it Daksh. Darshil said

What? I’m just here for the romance! It’s like I’m watching a live-action love story unfold! Daksh said

No use of wasting words on you. Darshil said

Wow, Darshil. I'm gone for five minutes and you're already in love mode with Aarvi. Where's my hug? I missed you too, man! Daksh said

He dramatically opened his arms, pouting like a child. Everyone laughed, and Darshil looks at him in with an annoyed expression.

You wish, Daksh. Keep dreaming. Darshil said dryly.

Such an unromantic person. Daksh mumbles.

I heard what you said..... Darshil said

That's better. Daksh said

Daksh turned to Poorva, flashing a mischievous grin.

You see how he treats me? Unbelievable. A month together, risking our lives, and I don't even get a thank you. Daksh said

Maybe next time, Daksh bhai. Poorva said

I expect a parade next time. Red carpet, fanfare, the works. Daksh said

Oh, stop it, Daksh! You're worse than a child. Nandini ji said and he laughs off.

Darshil looks back at Aarvi who was smiling.

You have no idea how much I thought about you. Darshil said

Aarvi’s cheeks flush slightly, and she looks away, trying to gather her thoughts. She still isn’t comfortable with how easily Darshil expresses his feelings, but she can’t deny the happiness she feels seeing him again.

It was… quieter without you here. Aarvi said

Quieter? You’re saying Darshil’s not a loud one? You should’ve seen him in Italy, Aarvi! He barely spoke a word about business, but mention your name, and the man turned into a lovesick poet! Daksh said, popping into the conversation.

Lovesick poet? Aarvi said

Yes Aarvi, you know, whenever I mentioned about you back in Italy, you should have looked at his his face. Ye Darshil kam aur Devdas zyada lagta tha. Daksh said and everyone laughed.

It’s good to have you back, beta. We’ve missed you. Nandini ji said

Especially Aarvi. She’s been keeping busy, but we all know she was waiting for you. Poorva said with a teasing smile.

Aarvi shot Poorva a glare, though she couldn’t hide the small smile tugging at the corner of her lips. She may not have admitted it out loud, but Darshil’s absence had left a gap in her daily life, one that she wasn’t prepared to acknowledge.

You were gone for a long time. Aarvi said

And let me tell you, Aarvi, this guy here wouldn’t stop talking about you! All day, all night—'Aarvi this, Aarvi that.' It was like I was traveling with a love-struck teenager. Daksh said

Darshil shoots Daksh a warning glare, but it’s clear that the jab doesn’t bother him. In fact, it’s true.

You can blame Daksh for that. He doesn’t shut up about his hunger for ‘proper Indian food'. Darshil said

Hey, I’m just saying—nothing beats a good aloo paratha. Speaking of which, is dinner ready? Daksh asked

Poorva rolls her eyes and laughs at Daksh’s antics, while Dadi shakes her head with a fond smile.

We missed you, Daksh bhai. The house has been too quiet without your commentary. Poorva said

Well, you don’t have to worry about that anymore. I’m back, and I expect nothing less than a feast! Daksh said

As the light-hearted banter continues, Darshil’s attention remains on Aarvi. She’s smiling now, and though she still seems a little reserved, he can sense that she’s happy to have him back.

I wasn’t sure if you’d miss me… but I’m glad to see you’re happy I’m back. Darshil said leaning towards her.

Aarvi glances up at him, her heartbeat quickening. She doesn’t know how to respond—part of her did miss him, though she’d never admit it outright.

I’m just glad you’re safe and back. Aarvi said

Darshil smiles, hearing the unspoken care in her words. He wants to say more, to tell her how much she’s been on his mind, but before he can, Daksh interrupts once again.

Alright, lovebirds, let’s save the mushy stuff for later. I’m starving, and I need food now! Daksh said

Everyone laughs at Daksh’s dramatic plea, and the tension in the room lightens instantly.

Come on, then. Dinner is ready, and I made all your favorite dishes. Nandini ji said

As they all make their way to the dining room, Darshil walks beside Aarvi, their shoulders brushing slightly.

So, Darshil, when are you taking Aarvi on another trip? Clearly, you two need some alone time after all those weeks apart. Daksh said

Aarvi’s looks away at the suggestion, and she shoots Daksh an embarrassed look.

We’re not— Aarvi said but Darshil interrupts.

Soon, Daksh. Maybe this time you can stay behind and spare Aarvi your endless complaints. Darshil said with a teasing smile.

Daksh makes a hurted dramatic face.

I’m wounded! You think Aarvi didn’t enjoy my company? Daksh said

Aarvi bites her lip, trying to hide her laughter, while Dadi and Poorva shake their heads at the playful exchange.

I like your company Daksh. Aarvi said

See..... Har koi tumhari tarah kadwa karela nahi hota. Daksh said

Darshil glares at him for a moment and then smiles.

After dinner, Daksh leaves for his house. Everyone else goes to their respective rooms, so as Aarvi and Darshil.

Darshil walks in behind Aarvi, who moves toward the dresser, pretending to be engrossed in her nightly routine. There’s a tension in the air, but it’s the kind of tension that Darshil finds exciting. He watches her closely as she brushes her hair, her back turned to him, but he can sense the way her movements are a little more hesitant tonight.

With a playful smirk, Darshil walks up behind her, leaning casually against the dresser, close but not too close. His presence is impossible to ignore, and Aarvi knows it. She glances at him through the mirror, her eyes betraying the slightest flicker of something she tries to hide.

You look beautiful Hazel. I missed seeing you like this. Darshil said

Aarvi continued to look at the mirror.

I thought...... you might have forgotten me. Aarvi said

Darshil chuckled softly and shook his head, his gaze never leaving her.

Forget about you? Hazel, how could I ever forget about you? You were all I could think about while I was away. You were constantly on my mind, Hazel. I couldn't forget about you even if I tried. Darshil said

Yeah.... I heard what Daksh said about the lovesick poet. Aarvi said and laughed softly

He smiled, his heart warmed by the sound of her laughter. He pushed off the doorframe and stepped closer to her.

You have no idea how much I missed that sound, doll. Your laughter is the most beautiful sound I've ever heard. Darshil said

Aarvi looked into his eyes, which she missed the most in all these days.

Darshil held her gaze, his eyes fixed on hers. He couldn't look away, lost in her beauty.

Your eyes are so captivating. I could get lost in them for hours and never get tired of looking at them. Darshil said

Aarvi looked away and there was a moment of silence.

You’re quiet tonight, Hazel. Did you miss me that much while I was away? Darshil said in a teasing tone.

Aarvi scoffs lightly, rolling her eyes, but there’s a faint smile tugging at her lips. She turns her attention back to the mirror, trying to appear unaffected.

Please. I was just fine without you. In fact, I think the house was more peaceful. Aarvi said

You might be able to fool yourself, but you’re not fooling me. Darshil said

You’re so full of yourself, Darshil. Why would I miss you when I can have all the peace in the world? Aarvi said

He smirked, knowing that she was still lying. He stepped closer to her, his eyes filled with a mix of affection and mischief.

O really? You didn't miss my presence even a little bit? You didn't miss my touch or my voice, even just a little? Darshil asked

Aarvi dropped the brush on the table and looked at him as she took her steps back.

No.... Not... at all. Aarvi said, stepping backwards

Darshil followed her movements, his eyes locked on hers as she backed away. He chuckled softly, his gaze filled with a mixture of amusement and desire.

Not at all, huh? You sure about that, Hazel? You didn't miss the way I touched you, the sound of my voice whispering in your ear? Darshil asked with a smirk

You.... never.... touched me. Aarvi said, her voice a bit shaky.

Never touched you? Hazel, I touched you countless times. I held you close, embraced you tight, touched your skin, caressed your face... you think I didn't do all those things? Darshil asked

Aarvi was quiet, as she took another step back, her back touched the wall.

Darshil smirked, seeing that she have backed up against the wall, trapping herself and giving him an opportunity to get closer. He moved forward, closing the distance between her, and placed his hands on the wall, trapping her between his arms.

Oh, my Hazel, you're trapped now. You have nowhere to run, and I'm close enough to touch you again. Darshil said as their eyes were locked at each other again.

You haven't changed at all in these weeks. Stay away. Aarvi said

Darshil chuckled softly, finding amusement in her resistance. He shifted closer, his body mere inches away from hers.

Change? Why would I change? I'm still the same man who craves your attention and desires your touch. And I don't think I can stay away. You're too irresistible to keep my distance. Darshil said

Aarvi was captivated by his eyes again.

Whatever it is, back off. Aarvi said

Darshil smiles, his gaze locked on hers, his body pressing against hers, trapping her against the wall.

Hazel, you're not putting up much of a fight. You're trying to tell me to back off, but your body and eyes are telling me a different story. They're pleading for me to come closer, pleading for me to touch you again. Darshil said

Aarvi narrowed her eyes and pushed his chest back and walked out of his grip.

Stop it now. Aarvi said

Stop? Hazel, how can I stop when you're begging for me in your own way? Your push against me, your attempts to walk away, they only make me want to get closer to you even more. Darshil said in a mischievous tone.

Excuse me? I am begging? You're such a liar. Aarvi said

Darshil grabs her waist and pulled her close, making her look into his eyes again.

Hazel, you might not realize it, but your body language and eye contact are screaming for me. Your push against my chest, your attempts to keep your distance, it's all a front. Deep down, you're craving my touch just as much as I'm CRAVING taking you in my arms and devouring you right here, right now. Darshil said

Aarvi was lost in his words and eyes for a moment but then she pulled back.

You are still annoying like always. Aarvi said

Annoying? Maybe so, but you know you can't resist me. Admit it, Hazel . You secretly like it when I act like a jerk. Darshil said

Atleast you admitted that you really act like a jerk. Aarvi said

Yeah, I'll admit it. Sometimes, I CAN be a jerk. But can you blame me? I am a different person around you. And also, Can you deny that you find it attractive when I act all possessive and dominant? Darshil said

You know what..... You should have better picked up a beautiful Italian girl for you there. Aarvi said

Yes..... There was a lot of beautiful Italian girls over there but there was a problem. Darshil said

Aarvi looked at him, her eyes narrowed, with a hint of jealously.

What problem? Aarvi asked

None of them was "YOU". Let me tell you one thing, "Aap eklauti waaris hai hamari mohobbat ki". Darshil said, making Aarvi's eyes and expression soft.

Is this your original dialogue or copied one? Aarvi asked with a smirk

Darshil laughs off.

Well, I won't lie to you. It's copied, I read few shayris today and this one was perfect for you. Darshil said

Aarvi sighs, and shakes her head.

Stop buttering me now, and don't irritate me anymore. Aarvi said

I'm not buttering you. I'm just being honest. And as for irritating you, well, can you blame me? You look damn adorable when you're all angry and flustered. Besides, I enjoy our little bickering. It's like a game we play, isn't it? Darshil said making a cute face.

You and Daksh are perfect pair for each other. Aarvi said

W.... What? You are pairing me with that jerk? Darshil asked in amusement

Yes..... Both of you are dramatic. You both will be a perfect happy couple. Aarvi said

Me and Daksh? Hazel , are you starting to get jealous? Don't worry, Hazel, he may be a good friend, but he's definitely not my type. Besides, I'd much rather irritate you. You're more fun to tease, Hazel. Darshil said

Why do you always have a reply ready for everything? Aarvi asked

Why not, Hazel? I like being prepared. And with you, I have to always be on my toes. You're unpredictable, and I enjoy every moment spent with you. You're like a puzzle I can't quite solve, and I'm hooked on the challenge. Darshil said

Aarvi sighs heavily.

Darshil..... Aren't you tired after so long flight? Go and sleep. Aarvi said

No Hazel, I'm perfectly fine. But it's cute how you're so worried about my well-being. See? You care about me. You were worried that I might be tired and want me to sleep. You're secretly a softie, Hazel. Admit it. Darshil said

Shut up and let me sleep now. Aarvi said and lie down on the bed and closed her eyes and then pretends to sleep.

Darshil grins as he watches her adorable action and then couldn't help but laigh softly. He then walk to the changing room to change.

As Aarvi listens his footsteps going to the changing room, she opened her eyes and look towards it and smiles and ends up laughing at Darshil's actions and words. She then, closes her eyes and gradually fall asleep.
