Darshil stood there, holding Aarvi close in his arms, he felt as though time had stopped. Her warmth against his chest, the faint scent of her hair, the gentle rhythm of her breath—it was all overwhelming, in the best way possible. His heart swelled with emotions he could barely contain.

This… this is the best day of my life. Darshil whispers against her hair

Aarvi looked up, her eyes sparkling with warmth, and gently placed her hand on his cheek, caressing it softly.

Happy Birthday, Darshil. Aarvi said softly

The words hung in the air like a soft breeze. But almost immediately, Darshil’s expression shifted. His smile faltered, and a shadow crossed his face. His arms tightened around her, and his eyes lowered as if he was trying to hide the sadness that suddenly rushed over him.

Aarvi felt the shift. She saw the pain in his eyes, the grief that still haunted him.

Hazel….you know I don’t like my birthday.… it’s not…. I can’t forget what happened that day. Darshil said

His voice broke, and his grip on her loosened slightly as if the weight of his memories was too much to bear. Aarvi, refusing to let him slip into that darkness, pulled him closer, wrapping her arms around him tighter. She rested her head on his chest, listening to his heartbeat, and spoke softly.

I know, Darshil… I know. But I wanted to make today different for you. I didn’t propose to you just to make it special for me—I wanted this day to be a new beginning for you. You shouldn’t keep carrying that guilt. Aarvi said

Darshil’s breath hitched, and he blinked back the tears that were forming.

But it’s my fault… they died because of me. I’ve been living with that weight every single day, Hazel. How can I celebrate a day that took them away from me? Darshil said, choking up at his voice.

Aarvi pulled back just enough to look up at him, her fingers gently brushing the tears from his face. Her gaze was steady, full of love, and unwavering strength.

No, Darshil. It wasn’t your fault. You’ve been punishing yourself for something you couldn’t control. Life can be cruel, but that doesn’t mean you stop living. You don’t have to carry that burden alone anymore. I’m here, with you, every step of the way. You deserve happiness and love, Darshil… you deserve to be free from that guilt. Aarvi said

Her words pierced through him, and he couldn’t hold back anymore. He broke down, his sobs muffled as he buried his face in her shoulder. Aarvi tightened her hold around him, whispering comforting words as he let out years of suppressed pain.

I miss them so much… I miss them every single day, Hazel. Darshil said while sobbing

I know you do… and they would want you to live, to find joy in life again. They loved you, Darshil. They wouldn’t want you to suffer like this. Aarvi said, her voice breaking, her eyes filled with unshed tears.

She held his face gently, looking deeply into his tear-filled eyes.

Today, I’m giving you a new memory for your birthday. A memory where you can think of love, of us, of our future. Not of loss. Let this day be the best again, Darshil. You deserve it. Please Darshil for me.... For your Hazel. Aarvi said as she wipes his tears.

He looked at her, utterly vulnerable, his walls crumbling before her gentle strength. She was right—he had been holding on to the pain for too long. Slowly, he nodded, though his tears still flowed and he wiped her unshed tears.

You….. you’re giving me more than I ever thought I could have. Thank you, Hazel..… thank you for being here, for loving me. Darshil said

Aarvi kissed his forehead tenderly, her lips lingering there for a moment before she whispered back.

I will always be here for you, Darshil. We’ll heal together. Aarvi said

Darshil pulled her back into his arms, his heart lighter than it had been in years.

After he calms down completely Aarvi took him towards the table. The soft glow of fairy lights illuminated the beach, casting a magical atmosphere as Aarvi and Darshil stood near the table where a small cake sat waiting. Aarvi, with a playful smile, tugged on Darshil’s hand.

Come on, Darshil. It’s time to make a new memory. Cut the cake. Aarvi said gently

Darshil’s eyes softened as he looked at her. His heart, which had once been heavy with sorrow, felt lighter than ever before. He hesitated for a moment, glancing at the cake. Birthdays had always brought him pain, but tonight felt different. Aarvi had given him a reason to celebrate again.

With a deep breath, Darshil finally smiled and picked up the knife. Aarvi stood beside him, her hand on his, as they cut the cake together. The gentle breeze carried the scent of the ocean, and for the first time in years, Darshil felt a sense of peace.

As he fed Aarvi a piece of the cake, she smiled, her eyes shining with love. Then, Aarvi stepped back and reached into her bag. She pulled out a small velvet box, her heart racing slightly.

I have something for you. Aarvi said in a playfull tone.

Darshil raised an eyebrow, intrigued. Aarvi opened the box, revealing a stunning platinum ring, simple yet elegant.

I know you’re not big on grand gestures, but this… this is my way of saying that I’m all in, Darshil. This is the mark of my love and your birthday gift. Aarvi said with a smile and began to kneel down. Darshil’s heart skipped a beat, but he quickly reached out and stopped her, gently pulling her a bit close.

Why should your knees touch the ground when it is I who should worship the earth you walk upon? Darshil said

But Darshil..... Aarvi began saying but Darshil interrupts her

No ifs and buts. A goddess never kneels for devotees. I am the one who should kneel in devotion to you. You are the queen of my heart and it's my honour to serve you. Darshil said

Aarvi blinked in surprise as Darshil, with no hesitation, knelt down before her. His eyes locked with hers, full of warmth and sincerity and extended his hand with a smile.

Aarvi’s breath caught in her throat, overwhelmed by the tenderness in his voice.

Darshil... You didn't have to kneel down. Aarvi said

Of course I had to. It's you who don't need to kneel before me to prove your love, I will gladly kneel before you whenever you command me to. Now go ahead. Darshil said

With trembling hands, Aarvi gently slipped the platinum ring onto Darshil’s finger. A soft smile played on her lips as the ring settled in place. The moment felt surreal, like a dream she didn’t want to wake from. She gazed at him and then gently pulled him to stand up.

You’re mine now. Aarvi whisperes

Darshil chuckled softly, then reached for her, pulling her into a deep embrace. She melted into his arms, feeling the warmth of his body, the steady rhythm of his heartbeat.

I’ve always been yours, Hazel. Always. Darshil said

They held each other for what felt like an eternity, the ocean waves crashing softly in the background. After a while Darshil pulled back gently.

Shall we have dinner now? After all, we can’t end a celebration without a proper meal. Darshil said

Aarvi smiled brightly and nodded. They sat down at the beautifully set table, enjoying the delicious spread of food that had been prepared. Darshil, for the first time in years, felt a sense of contentment as he sat there with Aarvi, laughing and eating.

As the night grew late, they decided to head back home. Darshil reached out, taking Aarvi’s hand as they walked towards the car.

Did I surprise you enough for your birthday? Aarvi asked

More than I ever expected. But… the best part wasn’t the cake, or the ring, or the decorations. Darshil said

Aarvi raised an eyebrow, curious.

Oh? And what was the best part, Mr. Darshil? Aarvi asked

Darshil stopped walking for a moment and turned to face her. His expression softened.

The best part was hearing you say you love me. Darshil said

Then get used to it… because I’m going to remind you every day from now on. Aarvi said with a smile.

As the morning sun streamed through the large windows of the house, Darshil and Aarvi descended the stairs together, their fingers intertwined. There was a serene happiness between them, the memory of the night before still lingering in the air. Darshil, his heart lighter than it had been in years, wore a soft smile, while Aarvi, a gentle warmth in her eyes, felt content.

At the foot of the stairs, Nandini Ji, Poorva, and Ruhi were gathered in the living room, chatting over tea. As soon as they noticed Darshil and Aarvi walking down together, the room seemed to brighten with their smiles. Darshil, with a respectful bow, immediately approached Nandini ji and touched her feet.

Nandini Ji, her eyes filled with pride and affection, placed her hand on Darshil's head.

May you always be happy, my son. Today, I finally see you happy again. That’s all I’ve ever prayed for. Nandini ji said

Aarvi smiled at the tender moment between Darshil and Nandini Ji.

Darshil is finally ready for this day. Aarvi said

Ruhi, sitting beside Poorva, ran over to Darshil with excitement, her voice full of joy.

Happy Birthday, Chachu! Ruhi said

Darshil knelt down, picking Ruhi up into a hug, his heart warming at her enthusiasm.

Thank you, my little princess! Did you know you’re my favorite birthday wisher? Darshil said

Poorva and Nandini Ji exchanged glances, and Aarvi couldn’t help but feel a rush of happiness seeing Darshil embrace the warmth of his family again.

Look at him! For someone who hasn’t celebrated his birthday in years, he’s acting like a pro at it now. Aarvi said sarcastically

Everyone laughed, and there was a collective sense of joy at the table.

Happy Birthday bhai. We’re just so happy that you’re back to celebrating, bhai. It’s been too long. Poorva said with a smile and hugged Darshil

Darshil gave a slight smile, grateful but still touched by the memory of his parents. He gently caressed her hair and closed his eyes for a moment and then opened it.

Thankyou my princess. Darshil said

After pulling back he looked at Aarvi, silently thanking her for helping him find joy in this day again.

They all moved to the dining table for breakfast. As they sat down, Darshil placed his hand on the table, purposefully revealing the platinum ring that Aarvi had gifted him the night before. Nandini Ji noticed it first, her eyes widening.

Oh, what’s this? Special gift? Nandini ji asked with a smile

Aarvi’s eyes sparkled with mischief as Darshil leaned back with a proud grin.

This, Dadi, is my birthday gift from someone special, my Hazel. Darshil said playfully

He extended his hand, showing off the platinum ring.

Oh, look at that! Our Aarvi’s gift has him showing off like a newlywed. Poorva said

The room erupted into laughter, and even Ruhi, not entirely understanding the teasing, clapped her hands in excitement.

Well, I had to make it special for him, didn’t I? This is the first birthday he’s celebrated in these years. Aarvi said with a smile

You’ve certainly succeeded. He hasn’t stopped smiling since he came downstairs.

Aarvi blushed slightly, her heart fluttering as she caught Darshil’s gaze.

As the breakfast continued with laughter and light-hearted conversation, Aarvi cleared her throat, ready to share her idea.

So… I was thinking. Since Darshil isn’t quite ready for a grand celebration, how about we have a small family dinner tonight? Just us, a cozy celebration at home. Aarvi said

Nandini Ji’s eyes softened at the thought, her voice full of approval.

That sounds perfect, Aarvi. A small family gathering feels just right. Nandini ji said

Darshil nodded appreciatively, glad that Aarvi understood his feelings so well.

I’d love that. Simple, with the people who matter. Darshil said

We can invite Shiv and Daksh as well. They’re practically family, and I know they’d love to be part of it. Aarvi said

At the mention of Shiv’s name, Poorva’s face flushed ever so slightly, though she quickly tried to compose herself. Aarvi, noticing the quick change in Poorva’s expression, smirked mischievously but said nothing.

Of course we will. They are my brothers, they have to be here. Now, I should be going, I have an important meeting. Darshil said and stood up

Come back soon. Aarvi said

I’ll be back soon, Hazel. Promise. Darshil said

You better be... I'll be waiting. If you'll be late, I'll make you cook all the dinner. Aarvi said

Darshil chuckled, placing a gentle kiss on her forehead before heading out the door. Aarvi watched him leave, a small smile playing on her lips

Stay safe. Aarvi whispered to herself

As the evening rolled around, the house buzzed with a warm, inviting atmosphere. Daksh and Shiv arrived together, both of them greeting everyone with lively smiles.

Where's the birthday boy? Let me guess, buried under work as usual? Daksh asked

Or hiding from all the birthday punches. Shiv said and both of them laughed

Darshil stepped into the room, greeting his friends with a laugh.

I'm right here, and no birthday punches today. I’m still recovering, remember? Darshil said

Everyone chuckled as they gathered in the living room, where conversations flowed naturally.

So, another year Darshil? And you still look Dashing. Daksh said

Yeah.... What's the secret behind this man? Shiv asked while grinning

I am not going to share the secret with you two idiots. Darshil said

O C'mon, we all know.... It's the glow of Aarvi's love for my brother. Daksh said and all of them laughed.

Yeah.... From last night, he hasn't stopped smiling. Shiv said

That's enough guys. It's my birthday, you all are supposed to make me feel good not tease. Darshil said

Really? I thought Aarvi's name is enough to make you feel good. Daksh said

Daksh.... I am just waiting for your turn. Darshil said

As everyone gathered at the dinner table, the mood was light and filled with laughter. The family was seated around the table, the delicious aroma of the meal filling the air. Darshil sat next to Aarvi, while Nandini ji sat across from them, next to Poorva and little Ruhi. Shiv and Daksh were also there, completing the circle.

Daksh, Shiv..... It feels so good to have you here. You both make me like the family is completed. Nandini ji said

Dadi, you know I always make time for good food and good company. Plus, how could I miss my dear friend’s birthday? Daksh said while grinning

Everyone laughed, and Daksh’s lively spirit seemed to fill the room with joy. Darshil, who was quietly eating, caught the amused look on Aarvi’s face as she watched Daksh with a smile.

Seems like you’re only here for the food, Daksh. Aarvi said

What? Aarvi, how could you think that? I came for the emotional support... and maybe just a little bit for the food. Daksh said

You never change, do you? Shiv said

Change is overrated, Shiv. Besides, who would make you all laugh if I turned serious? Because you and Darshil are hopeless when it comes to humour. Daksh said

The table erupted in laughter again.

But it’s good to have such moments, Daksh bhai. It’s been a while since this house had so much laughter. Poorva said

Poorva that’s my specialty. I should charge you for all the joy I bring! Daksh said

If we paid you for every joke, Daksh, we’d be broke. Darshil said

As dinner continued, Darshil noticed something odd. Daksh, who used to be a fan of non-vegetarian food, wasn’t touching any of the meat dishes. His plate was filled with only vegetarian food.

Daksh, no non-veg tonight? You used to love this stuff. Darshil said

Daksh grinned sheepishly, waving his fork in the air as if dismissing it.

Ah, my friend, I have forsaken the world of non-veg delights. It’s all about inner peace now. Daksh said

Everyone around the table paused, curious.

Inner peace, huh? Is this for some special reason? Shiv asked

I am curious too. Darshil said

Daksh looked around, his expression suddenly becoming a little more serious, but his eyes sparkled with humor.

I’ve left non-veg for... my ‘Happiness’. Daksh said in a dramatic tone

The way he emphasized the word ‘Happiness’ made everyone chuckle, but Darshil understood the deeper meaning behind it. He chose not to push further.

Well, I’m glad to hear that your happiness is worth more than just food. Nandini ji said playfully

Dadi you know I’m a changed man. It’s all about the simple pleasures now.

Ah, I see. When a man gives up his kebabs and chicken biryani, you know it's for something—or someone—truly special. Darshil said

Daksh just winked in response, and everyone laughed, letting the topic slide.

As the laughter died down, the conversation shifted to work.

Speaking of special, I heard the Shergills are making waves in the market again. Especially Khushi Shergill—she's quite something. Shiv said

Darshil nodded, a look of admiration in his eyes.

Khushi Shergill... now there's a name that commands respect. Her business mind is razor-sharp, and she’s got the boldness to match. She doesn’t back down from a challenge. Darshil said

Khushi Shergill is something. Sharp mind, bold strategies. She knows how to make things happen. Shiv said and Poorva glares for him for a moment.

Daksh leaned forward, his eyes twinkling with mischief.

I’ve heard she’s quite a looker too. Maybe I should switch sides, huh? Daksh said

The table burst into laughter, and even Darshil couldn’t help but chuckle at Daksh’s antics

You wouldn’t last a day with her, Daksh. She’s not the kind to fall for your charm. Darshil said

Challenge accepted, my friend. Challenge accepted. Daksh said with an exaggerated pride.

Everyone continued to laugh and enjoy the light-hearted conversation.

While the group enjoyed dinner, Shiv and Poorva had their own little moments whenever they found themselves alone. At one point, when everyone was distracted, Shiv gently squeezed Poorva’s hand under the table.

You’ve been quiet tonight. Shiv whispers

Just enjoying watching everyone. Besides, I don’t need to say much when I have you here. Poorva said softly in a low voice which Aarvi listened to but she just smiled knowingly.

Shiv’s smile widened, his thumb brushing lightly over her hand.

One day, I won’t have to keep our moments secret. But for now... this will do. Shiv said in a low voice

Poorva nodded, her eyes shining with affection, though she quickly withdrew her hand when she noticed someone looking their way. Shiv, amused, leaned back, a knowing smile on his face as he continued the conversation with the rest of the group.

As dinner wrapped up, the conversation grew quieter. Daksh stood up, stretching dramatically.

Well, I think I’ve had my fill—both of food and jokes. I’ll leave you to your post-dinner birthday celebrations. Daksh said

Darshil chuckled, standing to see his friends out.

Thanks for coming, guys. And Daksh... don’t worry. Your ‘Happiness’ won’t be affected by leaving non-veg. You’ll survive. Darshil said

I’m surviving better than you know, my friend. Daksh said while grinning

With that, Daksh and Shiv said their goodbyes, leaving the house feeling lighter and full of laughter. Darshil watched them leave, a smile on his face, but his mind wandered back to Aarvi.
