Book 2: Chapter 89: Miserable Experience
A few Saint Realm auras shot across the sky rapidly. Nevertheless, dreading the earlier blast of power, they came to a stop at a distance, not daring to get any closer to it. Exchanging glances with each other, the eldest man with the most powerful aura spoke out in a solemn and cautious manner: âMay I know which esteemed person you are, and why you have to start a fight in our Harbour City?â
âI didnât start any fight. Iâm only here to take back my daughter.â digging his ear, Callanster replied with an exceedingly unhappy tone.
Despite his reply, this old man clearly didnât believe Callansterâs words. Pointing towards the smoking ruins of the auction house, he roared out in fury: âIs this esteemed sir trying to say that weâre deaf and blind in the light of that huge of a commotion?â
Shrugging his shoulders, Callanster replied: âI really didnât do that.â
âB̲u̲l̲l̲s̲h̲i̲t̲!â the old manâs beard started to fly about as rage built up within him, before pointing towards Callansterâs nose and shouting out: âDespite your strength, I never imagined that this esteemed sir is that irresponsible as well as a b̲a̲s̲t̲a̲r̲d̲ that doesnât even dare to report his name!â
âName?â Callansterâs eyes narrowed slightly, as an incomparably dangerous aura started to radiate from his body, âListen carefully you old thing, my name isâ¦Emonaâ¦Callanster.â
âEâ¦Emona?â the old manâs forceful and imposing manner suddenly vanished, before a trembling voice rang out from his mouth: âThe Holy Dragon Empireâs Emona?ân/ô/vel/b//in dot c//om
âIs there anyone else in this world that dares to use the Emona surname?â
âHissâ¦â the sounds of people sucking in a mouthful of cold air rang out in the surroundings. Clearly, none of them had expected to bump into the legendary Dragonblood lunatic.
At this moment, the Dragonblood lunatic had already become somewhat irritated and flung his hand about as though he was swatting a fly: âHurry up and scram. Donât disturb my valuable reunion with my daughter.â
The old manâs eyes quivered upon hearing Callansterâs response, âEven if youâre the legendary Emona Callanster, you have to give our Harbour City an explanation for the unjustifiable commotion youâve caused. If not, we will have to treat this as an act of aggression towards our Luminous Theocracy by the Holy Dragon Empire, and an act of war!â
âWar?â Callansterâs eyes turned gloomy with anger: âI really, really hate people talking about war when theyâve never had the pleasure. Since you need a reason from me, Iâll give you oneâ¦â
A genial smile appeared on Callansterâs face as he asked out: âCarol, can you tell them what youâve gone through during the period of time?â
âYes! Father!â Carol gave a misshapen salute, before replying, â I swear to tell no lie, to not over exaggerate, distort or mask the truth.â
âOkay, speak.â
âFirstly, the people of the Luminous Theocracy had subjected me to inhuman torture!â
Huh? Why does it seemâ¦to be somewhat different from the truthâ¦
âNot only did they use a shameless scheme to kidnap me while I was having my afternoon tea, but they also smuggled me into the Luminous Theocracy, starve me from food and water, and most infuriatingly, not even give me my afternoon snacks back!â beads of tears were squeezed out from the corners of Carolâs eyes.
As Carol mentioned about her kidnapping, cold beads of sweat had already started to form on the old manâs forehead. Kidnapping the sole daughter of a Duke was already a big matter, whatâs more, it was the daughter of this lunatic! The most frightening thing was that the Duke should be fuming with rage, yet that lunatic was still treating their group genially and in a well-mannered tone. Just the thought of that caused a cold shiver done everyoneâs spine.
Carol wasnât finished yet.
âThey proceededâ¦â Carol clenched her hands, while a look of absolute despair appeared on her face, âto take me to Harbour City, strip off all silk clothes, replace them with tattered rags, and help themâ¦help them beg for alms! Whatâs more, I had to give all of the money to them, while I could only eat their leftover rubbish!â
Exactly how bad was my memory, or how good a show Carol was putting on, for me to not notice a single bit of falsehood in her words. At this moment, the broken heart of an aristocratic daughter being kidnapped into another country to experience the hardships of life was portrayed to the utmost detail by Carol.
âAfter that, when they felt that I was unable to beg or anything more, and became worthless to them, they sold me to the slave auction house for a measly 6 copper coins.â
Carol squeezed out 2 more tear droplets from her eyes before continuing, âAnd forced meâ¦forced toâ¦wash peopleâs legsâ¦wuhuâ¦â
This was nothing further from the truth, so much so that I felt my heart hurting from her words. Noâ¦I canâtâ¦I need to endureâ¦I have to endure!
âSo pitiful!â Callansterâs sudden roar scared the hell out of me, âOh~My beloved daughter! Youâve suffered so much torture! Since father is unable to do anything for you then, I can only destroy the city as revenge for you!â
As he continued to speak, Callanster proceeded to expand his domain. The tide of blood that had formed in the sky surged back and forth, needing only a thought from Callanster to engulf the entire city beneath.
âWaitâ¦Wait a minute!!â blood drained from the old manâs face as he shouted out in fear. Despite clearly being weaker than Callanster, he rushed over and put a halt to the latterâs actions, âPlease donât do it, please donât do it! Thereâre over a million people present in the city! Wiping out a city would be considered mass murder!â
âDo you think⦠Iâd kill all those people on purpose?â The tide of blood surged back and forth in the sky under Callansterâs command, appearing to be tittering on the brink of flooding down. âYet, my daughter has suffered such massive grievances here! Being the lord of the city, not only had you allowed for such evildoers to exist, you had even come forward to question me! Ahâ¦I am so bitterly disappointed. Might as well destroy the city.â
The old man gawked in response to Callanster knowing that he was the city lord. Nevertheless, the latter half of Callansterâs words had scared the living daylights out of him: âPlease no, Duke Callansterâ¦erm, esteemed sir. I can do anything you want me to do, but please donât destroy the cityâ¦please donât destroy the cityâ¦â
âHuh? You donât need any more explanations?â
âI donât need anymore, I donât need anymore.â
âAnd those lossesâ¦â
âIâll definitely do my best to compensate.â
âWhat about the evildoers that kidnapped my daughter?â
âIâll captureâ¦Iâll make sure Iâll capture them even if I need to go to the ends of the world to do soâ¦â
âThose young slave girls that were rescued from there?â
âThose with families would be sent back, and Iâll adopt the restâ¦â
âOkayâ¦â Callanster nodded his head in satisfaction. Patting the city lordâs shoulder, he said, âYouâre a good city lord.â
A sullen expression covered the city lordâs face. However, just as he was about to turn around and leave, I gave an abrupt shout: âWait a minute.â
âWhat else do you want?â the city lord stared at me. Although he didnât dare piss Callanster off, I was another story.
Being magnanimous, I didnât want to scheme against the city lord. Instead, making the most alluring smile I could make, I replied: âBlasting the auction house cost me 1539 scrolls, of which 352 were 9th rank scrolls, 366 were 8th rank scrolls, 415 were 7th rank scrolls, with the rest made up of middle rank scrolls, with a small number of low rank ones. Could youâ¦compensate me for them?â
âYou!â anger filled the old city lord as he stared widely at me, âThis is extortion!â
âIâm not extorting anything from you. What Iâve said is the truth. If you donât believe it, you can ask Carol yourself.â
Carol nodded her head and replied: âThatâs right. Itâs all true. I can swear upon it with the name of our Emona Clan.â
The old city lord clenched his weak little heart as he looked at the smoking ruins of the auction house, before turning to look at Callanster, who still wore the âIâll destroy the city if you donât agreeâ face. In the next instant, tears streamed down his face as he replied:
âIâll compensate⦠Iâll compensate you, alrightâ¦â
