Book 4: Chapter 6: Bet
âWhat Iâm interested in is the next highest position after you.â
âYou mean to say that you want to be the president of the disciplinary committee?â
âCorrect.â Lilith licked her lips. âIâm only interested in the position of president.â
âOut of the question! The president of the disciplinary committee is the same as the president of the student council. They must be elected through student elections! Youâre only a freshman without the slightest background and popularity. Itâs impossible for you to become the president.â
Lilith frowned slightly. Elder Mord didnât seem to be lying. It would seem like it was impossible to attain this position effortlessly.
âArenât you in charge of the disciplinary committee? Canât you intervene in the presidential election?â
âNo. Not even elders can interfere with the autonomous rights and interests of students. This is a rule established at the founding of this academy and it canât be changed.â
Lilith curled her lips with interest, but she wasnât too disappointed.
Her desire to become the president of the disciplinary committee was just a whim of the moment. The idea of a mere freshman sitting in such a high position was a very compelling thought. Incidentally, one could also abuse their power to skip classes or punishments.
âFine then, you are no longer of use. Professor Kumar.â
âGot it.â
Professor Kumar stepped forward again menacingly, with the engineer shovel in his hands.
Elder Mordâs face gradually paled. He could smell the scent of death.
âWait a minute! Although you certainly canât be the president, I think you can be the vice president!â
âVice president? Is that amazing?â
âOf course, the vice president of the disciplinary committee is second only to the president; a position inferior to one person but definitely superior to most people. Most importantly, the vice president is a position that will allow you to very easily gain popularity. 80% of the time, the former vice president will be elected as the president of each committee. If you want to become the president, becoming the vice president first is the best move.â
Lilith pondered briefly. âThat is a rather sound idea.â
Elder Mord breathed a sigh of relief. âThe former vice president happened to have just graduated, so this position is currently vacant. As long as I recommend you, the current president should have no reason to refuse.â
âAlright, that will do.â
Lilith shoved the big bag of gold coins into Elder Mordâs arms, then took out a scroll from her storage ring.
âElder Mord, please offer a drop of your blood here to prove your sincerity.â
âWhat is this?â
âA contract. Once formed, you canât violate the agreed terms. Violators will be cursed to death.â
Mord was stunned. He didnât expect Lilith to be this prepared. With this, there was no room for regret.
It was at this moment, Lilith had taken out an exquisite dagger to draw blood.
Mord had no other choice but to accept his fate and allow Lilith to do what she wanted to do on him with that dagger.
âF̲U̲C̲K̲! You little b̲a̲s̲t̲a̲r̲d̲, do you have to stab my wrist for just a drop of blood?!â
Lilith pretended to not hear him and soaked up the gushing blood with the scroll.
At the same time, she pricked her own fingertip with the dagger then pressed it on the contract.
The contract glowed faintly and spontaneously combusted without fire, signifying that the contract had been established.
âElder Mord, that makes us partners from now on.â
Lilith offered her hand and gestured to Kumar to turn off the mentally challenged attractor.
Mord regained freedom. Without even looking at Lilithâs outstretched hand, he snorted coldly, âWhatâs your name, little b̲a̲s̲t̲a̲r̲d̲?â
Lilith wasnât bothered by that. âMy name is Lilith,â she replied.
âLilith, Iâll remember this name. I havenât met many students that could deflate me in my entire life. You best pray that you wonât fall into my hands in the future.â
âOh ho, weâre partners, Elder Mord. How could you say such horrible things to your partner?â
âIâm not your partner.â
Mord, who was beyond humiliated, was about to turn around and leave when Lilith stopped him again.
âI have another favor to ask of you, Elder Mord.â
âWhat is it again?!â Mord asked impatiently.
âUmm⦠You know Iâm lost right?â
âIf youâre lost, then find your own way out. I donât have the time to guide you around.â
âI have no issues with that, but I should be in class right now. So⦠Can you explain to my class teacher why Iâm late? I heard that he is quite scary.â
Mordâs eyes widened and the little curl on his forehead trembled twice. âIn other words⦠You missed the first class?â
âI didnât miss it, Iâm just late.â
âLate? Look at the time, has anyone been late by a few hours?â
Lilith was aware of her own fault. She twiddled her thumbs like an apologetic baby, then stole a glance at Mord. âThatâs why⦠Iâm asking you for help.â
Mord took a deep breath, then roared like he was venting all the humiliation he suffered today. âF̲U̲C̲K̲ OFF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!â
Meanwhile at the arenaâ¦
The atmosphere grew increasingly heavier, as though there was an impending storm.
Most of the freshmen in class 9 were in an extremely pathetic state. Their clothes were tattered and they looked like they had been taught a severe lesson. Each and every single one of them was dispirited and depressed.
But now, some people were secretly staring at the entrance of the arena with excitement in their eyes.
The class teacher, Miguel, looked at his watch and commented emotionlessly, âWhat an amazing student Lilith is. Not only did she skip the first class, she also skipped the second class. Is this what they meant by in for a penny in for a pound? Are you looking down on me?â
Miguel then raised his head and looked at the many freshmen who were ready to enjoy the show. âDonât go gloating over otherâs misfortune. You all lost terribly to your seniors just now. Except for Thea, most of you could barely take ten hits. You have no right to make fun of other people. I hope you remember what I said earlier, if Lilith doesnât get here before noon, your corporal punishment will be increased by ten times!â
The freshmen wailed and lowered their heads even more than before.
It was human nature to gloat over otherâs misfortune, but it was no longer fun when they caught on the fire themselves.
Hence, most people remembered Lilith, who seemed like she was never going to show up.
âMr. Miguel, canât we just leave first? The spar is over. Standing around here on a hot day like a fool is just a waste of time.â
âNot everyone is here yet. Why are you in such a hurry, Kieran?â
The second-year student named Kieran huffed in dissatisfaction, âWhy do we all have to wait here for a first-year like an idiot? I donât have so much time to waste. That little girl wonât be able to beat us anyway, so why donât you just do us a favor and let us go?â
All the other second-year students echoed in agreement.
Miguel rubbed his chin, seemingly thinking that Kieran had made a point.
âLilith will definitely beat you!â
Kieran frowned. There was still a freshman who dared to say something so outrageous after getting their a̲s̲s̲ whooped so badly?
His eyes scanned over the group of freshmen and stopped on a face that might not be outstanding, yet still extremely attractive.
He was somewhat surprised.
This girl who seemed to be Thea was the only freshman that made an impression on him.
That was because she was the one who nearly made them lose.
She not only had amazing magic spells, her beautiful staff nearly broke their bones.
His interest was instantly piqued. âYouâre Thea, right? Youâre saying that Lilith who skipped two classes is very impressive?â
âOf course. Sheâs definitely much more impressive than you.â
âHaha, I would really love to meet her.â
Kieran was amused. It seemed like these little calves had yet to understand the one year gap between them was an insurmountable gap.
âWell, Iâm in a good mood today, so how about we gamble?â
âGamble?â
âLetâs make a bet, Thea. If I can beat this Lilith up, both of you will be my maids. If I lose, I will be both of your servant instead. And of course, the time is limited to the few years that Iâll be in this academy.â
Thea was stunned. She didnât expect Kieran would make such a suggestion.
However, in St. Caroline Academy, non-life-threatening bets like these were in compliance with the rules. Hence, it was quite common to see people becoming someone elseâs possession after losing their bets every year.
This was also the academyâs pursuit of a powerful way to raise a fighter.
Kieran thought Thea was starting to chicken out, so he spoke gently to her. âDonât worry, even if both of you become my maid, Iâll only make you clean and tidy up my room at most. I wonât do anything else to both of you. In any case, as long as both of you win, you can make the best in second-year to be your most loyal servant. How does that sound?â
âHaha, Kieran, youâre tricking these little girls like that again?â
âYeah, donât you have enough maids already?â
âStop saying that. Itâs not good to scare these little girls.â
Thea had a strange look on her face. The corners of her mouth curled up as she watched Kieran who was smiling confidently and his companions that were making fun of him.
âAlright. On behalf of Lilith, Iâll accept your challenge.â
