Book 5: Chapter 37: Drama King
âThe owner of this establishment?â
Leonithâs eyes narrowed slightly as he sat back down. âSo, youâve come all this way to find Lacey Guinevere?â
Durance nodded. âYes, but since the informant only provided me with her name, Iâm still poking around cautiously so I wonât spook my target.â
âHave you uncovered anything?â
Durance frowned. âUnfortunately, no. Lacey Guinevere is extremely cautious and rarely shows herself. She prefers to delegate tasks to those she trusts. Truth be told, weâve been here two days and we still have no idea what she looks like.â
âSounds like youâre really in a bind.â Lesiah stroked her chin thoughtfully. âI think your method isnât going anywhere. If you want to get closer to the truth, you have to find a way to meet Lacey Guinevere.â
âIâm ashamed of my incompetence.â Durance could only smile helplessly.
He had too few clues to go on and the enemy remained hidden in the shadows.
Durance was wary of using any tactics. If he failed his mission here, the next person to set himself on fire could be the new chief security enforcer and his father, Lord Aneva.
Hence, it was imperative to move as carefully as he could. He even brought Kieran, who was completely unrelated to the case, just to throw the enemy off-track. At the same time, he also had a back-up in case something went wrong.
Being the son of Lord Aneva, he knew that he was a likely target on the enemyâs radar if they were meticulous.
However, Kieran was different. As long as he took on this appearance, no one would be able to find out his identity since he technically did not exist in this world.
Everyone fell silent for a moment. Even Lesiah struggled to formulate an effective strategy due to the lack of clues.
Durance and Kieran already exhausted every idea they had long ago.
It was at this time, Leonith suddenly stood up and pushed his sunglasses up the bridge of his nose.
âLeave this to me,â he said with a serious face.
âHuh?â
âWhat?â
âYou must be joking.â
All eyes turned toward Leonith.
âAre you certain we entrust this to you?â Kieran had a look of mistrust on his face.
âOf course!â
Leonith smacked the table, causing the others to jump in surprise.
âI have the perfect plan to lure the snake out of its hole. Leave the rest to me⦠Iâll show you!â
Seeing that the crowd still looked unbelieving, and even Lesiah secretly pulled her coat corner and told her to stop, Leonith could not help but feel extremely angry.
âAre you guys⦠doubting me?â Leonith fumed.
âNo, of course not!â
Thea waved her hands frantically and continued, âWeâre totally not doubting you! Itâs just that with the Great Celestial Rite underway, violence is prohibited in the entire city. If you accidentally cause even a little bit of commotion⦠Iâm not saying that Lilith is the kind of person who often creates trouble, but weâll be in a lot of trouble if that happens.â
Durance nodded in agreement. âMy father is an extremely strict and straight-laced man. He wonât turn a blind eye to that even if you are my friend. Besides, given your identityâ¦â
However, Durance hesitated before he could finish his sentenceâ¦
It was difficult to imagine the destructive power of the dragon princess, and he feared what would happen if she lost controlâ¦
That would be far greater news than a chief security enforcer setting himself on fire.
Leonith sighed and said, âIt seems you guys still donât trust me⦠but donât worryâ¦â
He gracefully hopped onto the table and crossed his arms.
âThe person who will create trouble today is me, Leonith. It has absolutely nothing to do with that petite, cute, beautiful and charming Lilith!â
âThatâs not the point at all!â Despite Duranceâs usual composure, he almost lost it. âAnd did you just say⦠create troubleâ¦?â
âYou must have imagined thatâ¦â
Leonith pointed at Durance and continued saying, âLetâs stay focused on the matter at hand and skip the boring talk! Durance, you are the pride of the academy, the dazzling man, the best student of all time, and the elite of the elite! Can you endure the shame of not making progress on this case for so many days? Can you endure the pain of losing your informant and not being able to avenge him?â
âNo, I actuallyâ¦â
âOf course you canât!â
Leonith roared, âHow could you possibly endure such humiliation? Fear not, this is precisely why God had sent me, the dependable Leonith, to assist you!â
âUh⦠I think you donât actually have to do anything, Lilithâ¦â
âDonât worry, my plan is foolproof! Even if something goes awry, I, the dependable Leonithâ¦â He shot a smile at Durance before completing his sentence, âwill take full responsibility.â
ââ¦â¦â
Lesiah placed her hand on Duranceâs shoulder and assured him, âI donât think we can stop Lilith anymore, seeing how determined she is. We better save our energy and prepare to solve any potential consequences that her plan may bring.â
âRight, itâs better we think about what to do after,â Thea agreed with a nod.
Durance smiled wryly and could only nod, albeit very reluctantly.
It was not like he had any other option at this point.
âGreat, seems like youâre on board with it. Well thenâ¦â
Leonith suddenly turned to look at Kieran. âPut on your wig, letâs get started.â
âHuh? Me?â Kieran pointed to himself with disbelief.
Everyone else in the room was much more powerful than him, why did Leonith choose him?
Looking at the dumbfounded look on Kieranâs face, Leonith frowned and explained seriously, âGosh, youâre so stupid. The others arenât in disguise like us. If I were to ask for their help, how would we be able to escape and let someone else take the blame?â
ââ¦â¦â
ââ¦â¦â
Durance suddenly wondered if he should send for his father, requesting for the aid of the royal knights just in case things got out of hand.
âAll right, letâs get down to business.â
Leonith waved at Kieran and said, âYou. Stand in front of me.â
Kieran looked confused but complied. He put on his wig and stood in front of Leonith.
Leonith took out a fake mustache out of nowhere and stuck it under his nose to make himself appear more manly. He then waved at the others who were sitting at the side.
âMove to the side a little. After I start a chaos, seize the opportunity to evacuate the room. Wait for our signal, and donât screw up.â
The group looked at each other, but followed his instructions and stood up.
Kieran, who was standing in front of Leonith, suddenly realized that something was off about Leonithâs words.
âChaos? How?â
Leonith did not answer.
He closed his eyes and took a deep breath. When he opened his eyes again, they were filled with distress and sadness. He looked like a middle-aged man who had just caught his wife in bed with his neighbor.
A bad feeling immediately welled up in Kieranâs heart, followed by panic.
âW-What exactly are you planning to doâ¦?â
Before Kieran could finish his sentence, he saw, out of the corner of his eye, a fair and small hand flying toward his cheek so fast that he could not react in time.
SLAP!
A loud noise echoed throughout the room.
His mind went blank and darkness consumed his vision. His body spun 3,600 degrees in the air, crashed through the wooden door of the coupleâs suite and landed outside in the huge lounge.
The noises in the huge lounge immediately ceased, as dozens of pairs of eyes stared at the woman, who was now lying on the ground in what seemed to be a maidâs outfit.
A short, fair-skinned man with an imposing presence then slowly emerged through the hole of the broken door.
He had a very unpleasant expression on his face as he pointed at the woman with his shaky finger. It seemed like sending her flying out of the room did little to quell his anger.
âYou little s̲l̲u̲t̲! Youâll be the death of me! Iâve mostly been away from home this year, only because I have to work hard to put food on the table, buy you expensive clothes and makeup! Iâve been trying my best to afford you a good life, is this how you repay me? By sleeping around with other men out here? You spent my hard-earned money on those toy boys, and bought these fancy dresses to impress them with your cosplay! Going as far as calling them your master, have you no shame at all? Itâs time for justice to be served today! Iâll deal with you first, before chopping those toy boys of yours up and feeding them to the pigs! Otherwise, Iâll never find peace!â
