No matter how far Erica went, she was still within this small world.
Lilith, who had never witnessed such a battle of this magnitude, wasnât certain whether it would affect the entire realm. This uncertainty was why she had been so eager to eliminate the participants; their presence would only complicate matters.
She hadnât anticipated the situation escalating so quicklyâonly the second day of the match, far sooner than she had expected. Her initial plan had been to clear the participants swiftly in the first few days, allowing at least five days for preparation.
However, the enemy had given her no time to prepare. As always, they appeared suddenly and without warning, catching her off guard.
âHurry up and go,â Lilith said to Erica, her eyes never leaving Three, who was smiling and making no immediate moves for now.
âGo to Princess Luna and tell her that Iâve ordered her to retreat to the borders of the small world. She is not to return until I personally contact her,â she said.
âOkay.â Erica, sensing that she was not to be involved in this situation, nodded and, though still confused, departed quickly. Thanks to her identity as Mr. Card, Erica knew Princess Luna was currently in the western forest.
Lilith watched Erica until she disappeared from view. âWhat a surprise. You let her go so easily,â Lilith said, relaxing her tensed posture and directing a curious gaze at Three.
âNot only that but you also prevented me from killing her earlier⦠I donât recall you guys being this merciful,â she added.
Three, feigning a pained expression, replied, âYou wouldnât think weâre some great evil, would you, Princess? We donât indiscriminately kill innocents.â
âCan you even convince yourself?â Lilith asked, laughing coldly. âWhether itâs the Ninth, Seventh, or you, donât even try telling me that youâve respectfully borrowed that body of yours from its owner. Iâm sure you know how much blood you guys have on your hands.â
âThose were necessary sacrifices,â Three stated matter-of-factly. âI donât kill innocents without cause. If I had acted a few minutes earlier, those hit by your magic would have surely died. I waited until you had eliminated the participants before sealing this small world.â
âBut if these sacrifices were necessary, I wouldnât hesitate either. If I had determined that threatening that girl could force you into submission, I would have had no qualms about taking her hostage. Unfortunately, you donât strike me as someone whoâs easily swayed by compassion,â Three remarked nonchalantly with a shrug.
âHeh, so it sounds like youâre quite principled in your villainy,â Lilith snickered. âShould I give you an award for Best Villain of the Year?â
âVillain? What are you talking about?â Three looked genuinely surprised as if Lilith had just cracked a joke. âSurely, you donât seriously think we are the bad guys, right?â
âAre you not?â Lilith asked.
âHaha, from your perspective, perhaps. But from a broader view, weâre on the side of justice,â Three said, feigning a dramatic sigh. âIâll probably be celebrated as a hero when I return⦠you know, the kind of hero who gets statues erected in their honor, featured in childrenâs storybooks, and gets an extra ten minutes of discussion in history classâthe kind everyone admires.â
âJustice? Heroes? What part of your actions fits the concept of justice?â Lilithâs irritation flared as she recalled their recent deeds.n/o/vel/b//in dot c//om
âHonorable Princess, you surely understand that justice isnât about being right or fair. Itâs about eradicating evil,â Three said, giving her a pitiful look. She fixed her gaze on Lilith and continued, âAnd youâre the evil weâre going to eliminate. If weâre talking about who the real villain is, shouldnât that be you?â
âNonsense, donât twist the story,â Lilith replied, her golden eyes exuding an oppressive majestic aura. Rising slowly from the water, she looked down at Three coldly. âI donât recall committing any heinous acts.â
At most, Iâve only punched a few kids, destroyed an important statue, and flirted with a princess from a foreign nation. But are those really heinous acts?
âPFFFFT⦠HAHAHAHA!â Three burst into laughter, completely unperturbed by Lilithâs dragon might. âOh, honorable princess, youâre so naive and adorable.â
âWhat?â Lilithâs eyebrows knit together in confusion and anger.
âGood and evil arenât just black and white. Some things are inherently asked in the light of justice, while some peopleâ¦â Three sneered, her expression full of contempt as she continued, âare simply born evil.â
âYouâ¦!â Lilithâs anger flared, but she took a deep breath, forcing herself to calm down. âForget it. Thereâs no point in arguing with you.â
âAgreed, I have no intention of wasting time either.â Three floated slowly, her beautiful hair dancing in the wind, her black pupils deeper than the lake below.
Lilith remained on high alert, ready to summon Cornelia at a momentâs notice.
âOh, right,â Three said as if suddenly remembering something. âAbout that deity-level trump card of yoursâI didnât come all the way here to face you without you being prepared.â
âDeity⦠trump card?â Lilithâs pupils shrank slightly, her cheeks twitching before quickly settling into a forced smile. âI have no idea what youâre talking about. Putting aside trump cards, the strongest being Iâve encountered is a demigod. Whatâs a deity? Care to explain?â
Three appeared to have not heard her and continued mumbling as if talking with herself. âSpeaking of which, Four should be almost ready by now.â
Four
An unsettling premonition surged through Lilithâs heart.
In a distant land at the edge of the small world, Four, currently inhabiting Mooreâs body, worked diligently to assemble a black altar. Beads of sweat dotted his forehead as he hummed softly, focused on the task at hand.
âHmph, damn Three, making me handle such laborious work. She knows full well that I despise working with half-finished altars,â he grumbled.
The black altar, originally crafted by a deity, had been simplified for use by those who had yet to attain the Divine realm.
Though it was less effective, it was easier to set up and use.
However, its heavy weight was a major drawback. Even when broken into pieces, the altar was as heavy as a meteorite. Considering Fourâs current slender body, it was indeed an ordeal for him to put the altar together.
After what felt like a backbreaking process, Four finally completed the altar.
Adopting a serious and solemn expression, he kneeled in reverence before it and took out three sticks of incense.
