Book 2: Chapter 24: Everything is Difficult in the Beginning
A team of uniformly dressed and well-equipped teams approached from a distance with neat steps, blowing whistle as they approached, seemingly conspicuously displaying their existence and flaunting their might.
However, making such a big noise all the time has frigging no use other than to give the slavers sufficient time to escape.
The team stopped in front of the uncle. The leader took two steps forward with a lantern in his hand, but within the lantern was not a candle or something of that nature, but a shining stone.
It was a Bright Stone. It could be said to be a very common lighting object, but it was expensive and not something ordinary people could afford.
The man held the Bright stone close to the uncle who was on the ground and carefully looked him over, but he didnât seem to have noticed that the uncle was seriously injured, and began to question him with a frown.
âThe cityâs curfew has already passed, what are you doing outside at this time?â
The uncle pointed at the direction Scarface left and weakly replied, âSomeone just captured a young girl and is going to sell her as a slave.â
âSlave trafficking?â The man looked around perfunctorily.
âI donât see anyone suspicious.â
âThey already left, why⦠did you guys only arrive nowâ¦â
The man seemed displeased to hear such a question and coldly said, âOur law enforcement team is busy, we wonât be available at any time.â
âButâ¦â
âEnough, donât bother saying anything.â The man interrupted the uncleâs follow-up and said, âSince this is just your first offense, Iâll let you off with only a warning. If you are still wandering during the next curfew, weâll have the right to arrest you as a suspicious person.â
âEveryone, turn left!â The man did not give the uncle a chance to respond again, he turned back to his team and barked the order, âPatrol target, west wall, start marching!â
The team turned around, trotting away in the opposite direction of scarface in lockstep. The leader picked up the metal whistle hanging on his neck and blew on it rhythmically accompanied by the orderly footsteps.
The sound of the whistle became smaller and smaller, and gradually disappeared into the night.
The silence of the night was restored, and not even a dogâs bark could be heard.
At that moment, the extremely constrained cry resounded so clearly in the quiet night.
âSister⦠I⦠failed againâ¦â
I put away my concealment scroll and slowly walked to the uncle, but I didnât know how to comfort him, so I said, âDonât cry, a big man shouldnât cry.â
I regretted it immediately after saying it, the uncle he⦠should be allowed to cry now. After all, his enemies were in front of him, but he didnât have the ability to get revenge.
Helplessness is far more painful than physical pain, itâs the kind of pain that penetrates the bone marrow.
âHow long have you been there?â
The uncleâs tone didnât sound surprised, as if he knew I was hiding there all along.
âFrom the beginning, but how did you know that I was hiding there.â
âI didnât, but the rain a moment ago was weird. Those law enforcement officers werenât wet at all.â
âOh, so thatâs it.â
I crouched down and began to examine the uncleâs injuries.
âDo you mind if I take a look.â
The uncle didnât answer, still staring blankly at the sky.
âI wonât stand on ceremony.â
I slowly tore open the uncleâs shirt and found that the sword wound on the uncleâs blood-stained shoulder was the lightest, and the few punches he took when confronting Scarface were the most dangerous.
There were a lot of black marks on the uncleâs body, and he winced in pain when I ran my fingertips over them.
Not only that, the uncle also had old injuries of various sizes, eighty percent of which were stab wounds, including those from the sword of the men in black.
âI donât have anything that can treat your injuries now, I can only do some emergency treatment for you at the moment.â
Most of the scrolls that my mother gave me were powerful offensive scrolls, and only a small part were scrolls with utility abilities like the Concealment Scroll.
Moreover, there wasnât a single healing scroll in the ring. Perhaps she was confident in my self-healing ability.
I tore apart the uncleâs shirt into a cloth strip and wrapped up the bleeding wound on his shoulder. Iâd done this kind of thing often in my previous life, so I was very skilled at it.
âWell, bear with me first. Iâll take you to the doctor.â
As I put the uncle on my shoulders, he was like a fish with all the bones removed the way he hung limply, resting his entire bodyâs weight on me.
âHeyâ¦â Uncle suddenly asked, âWhy didnât you make your move earlier?â
âMake my move? Uncle, arenât you afraid Iâll also be taken away?â
I slowly dragged the uncle forward. Due to his height, the uncleâs feet could only be dragged on the ground, and two drag marks were left on the muddy ground.
âDonât joke around, thereâs no fear in your eyes at all. Though itâs just a hunch, but I have a feeling you would have been able to beat that Scarface.â
âUncle is really smart.â
âIâm hardly smart,â the uncle wryly smiled to himself, âBut if I didnât have at least this much observational skill, I would have been stabbed to death by those people.â
âIâm sure you could tell, uncle, but Carol got caught intentionally.â
âCarol?â
âThe mentally retarded girl from just now.â
âOh, sheâs your companion. But why would she want to get caught on purpose?â
âAlmost for the same reason as you, uncle.â
âAlmost?â The uncle thought for a moment, then suddenly realized, âYou mean sheâs going to save the slave too?â
âYes.â
âDonât play around, I didnât feel the slightest amount of Battle-qi or Magic Power from her. She should just be an ordinary person. Wouldnât it be difficult for a normal person to jump into a tigerâs den like this?â
âOf course, force isnât enough, but you can still outsmart them.â
Then I told the uncle half of our plan. In any case, the goal of the uncle is similar to ours. Not to mention, if itâs this uncle, maybe he can supplement the subsequent plan.
After hearing the plan, the uncle lowered his head and thought for a few seconds, then said solemnly, âGive up on her, sheâs beyond saving.â 1 âWhat?â
âThere are too many unknown factors in this plan. Without knowing the internal conditions of the auction site and the auction process, the chance that you could successfully buy her is very low. Moreover, you donât know how deranged some nobles can be in order to buy their favorite slave. They can even go as far as giving up their family properties.â
âGiving up family properties? That bad? Isnât it just some random slaves to them, is it worth it to go that far?â
âOf course itâs not worth it, but itâs a matter of reputation to those nobles if they were unable to buy what they like from the auctions. For the sake of their reputation, let alone their properties, they are even willing to sell their own wives and children into slavery.â
âTherefore,â the uncle looked at me with pity, âIâm afraid itâs too late for your companion.â
Silva wishes Carol to rest in peace. Or was it pieces? I donât know.
