Stunned for a moment, Gu Mengmeng then laughed out loud.
Lea was so evil. Really too evil.
Gu Mengmeng dared to guarantee that Auretin thought the ârice bowlâ Lea referred to was the actual utensil used for eating, rather than his livelihood and position in the family.
A savage fight between a ferocious tiger on the ground and a vulture in mid-air. Gu Mengmeng watched dumbstruck.
Under usual circumstances, Elvis and Lea would purposely block any ongoing battles from her line of sight. They seldom let her watch any fighting scenes, as if afraid of scaring her.
But things were different for Auretin and Gregory. Gregory desperately needed to prove his strength to Gu Mengmeng, while Auretin... was just driven mad over his desire for food.
Wabei sat at the side watching with his eyes aglow. He was itching to join in the fight.
Although a battle between third-level beasts was nothing much to him, as long as there was a fight, he would feel the urge to participate.
Lea tugged at Wabeiâs arm. âTwo guardian beasts fighting for their place in the family. What are you going over for?â
Wabei pouted. âWe are both fifth-level now. Letâs go out for a round of sparring?â
Lea shook his head. âNo way. I more or less know all your fighting methods now and it wonât add much to my experience. I am going to fight Elvis after eating, you stay home and accompany Mengmeng.â
âShe doesnât need my company.â Wabeiâs eyes were shining. âI will go with you two. Elvis is now a Wolf King and you cannot defeat him. Letâs join forces against him.â
Lea snorted. âJoining forces with you to fight my familyâs first partnerâno matter who wins or loses, I wonât be able to answer to Mengmeng, right?â
âIngrate.â Wabei rolled his eyes at Lea with deep displeasure.
Lea knew Wabei was referring to when he helped him get promoted during the time when Gu Mengmeng was visiting the Beast Deity. And so he didnât mind and just smiled before placing the pot of meat onto the dining table.
The moment the pot touched the table, Auretin and Gregory instantly stopped their fighting.
Auretinâs jaws were clamped around Gregoryâs neck, all ready to snap his head off.
Meanwhile, Gregoryâs steel-like claws were pressed against Auretinâs left chest, all set to crush his heart.
They were neck to neck and could be considered evenly matched.
Gu Mengmeng took out six bowls and ladled six portions of meat. She placed the first bowl at her own seat. This was the rule. The female was the head of the household and was always served first.
The second bowl was given to Elvis. This was the indisputable right and privilege of a first partner.
The third bowl was given to Lea and the fourth to Wabei.
Gu Mengmeng then placed the fifth and sixth bowls one on each side of Wabei. âAuretin, Gregory. Stop it. Itâs time to eat.â
This...
This was a tacit acknowledgment of Gregoryâs status as the guardian beast.
Gregory walked to Gu Mengmengâs side and reached out with the intention to hug her. But Elvis acted first, pulling Gu Mengmeng into his own arms.
Staring malevolently at Gregory, he said in a mild voice. âShe can hug you, but you cannot hug her.â
Gregory was shocked, but then smiled and nodded.
He was a guardian beast and not a partner. Of course he didnât have the right to hug her whenever he wanted.
It was not just him. If Elvis did not permit it, even Lea could not hug Gu Mengmeng as and when he liked.
He was somewhat disappointed but not upset.
Gregory presented his feather to Gu Mengmeng again. âThis is the custom of bird tribes. I will only be considered yours if you accept this.â
