The café, located just across from City Hall, wasnât low-class. Each coffee came with two biscuits, dotted with chocolate chipsânot soft chocolate or syrup but firm enough to provide a satisfying crunch. The sweetness paired well with the coffeeâs bitterness.
William popped a biscuit into his mouth. âIf I were to run, the Federation Party would likely support meâas long as I didnât need their funding.â
He clapped his hands and leaned back in his chair. âWinning would be a pleasant surprise for them. Losing wouldnât be a regret or a loss. But are you seriously considering this?â
To be honest, the thought tempted him. Being a âservantâ in city hall wasnât nearly as appealing as becoming a city councilor with influence. As a middle-aged Federation man, he still wanted to make a mark.
Seeing Lanceâs resolute gaze, William felt a surge of motivation. âThe party would back me. Several Federation-backed capitalists in Jingang City would also lend support.

âI heard youâre planning to open a clothing factory?â The bald man appeared quite talkative, striking up conversation as Lance studied the map.
