Chapter 79 Men Fall for This Every Time Bella wasnât sure if it was her imagination, but she felt Dominic leaning in.
His breath was warm against her skin. Just as their lips were about to touch, Dominic suddenly turned away and released her. In a burst of anger, he stormed upstairs and slammed the door.
The sudden commotion snapped Bella back to reality. What had just happened?
The next morning, when Bella woke up, Sylvia had already made breakfast. Upon seeing the empty wine glasses from the night before, she made hot soup to soothe their stomachs.
1/1 As Bella sat at the table, Dominic came downstairs. He was adjusting his suit cuff as he approached the dining room, word, he turned and strode toward the front door.
but his expression soured upon meeting her gaze. Without a Sylvia noticed Dominicâs strange behavior and gave Bella a questioning look.
Bella glanced down at her bowl of soup and murmured, âI donât know whatâs wrong with him.â
Sylvia sighed. âMen and their moods. Just coax him a bit, Ms. Jones. Most men love that.â
Bellaâs lips twitched as she imagined the outcome of trying to coax Dominic. He was hardly the type to respond well to that.
Besides, she had no idea why he was upset. Was it because she mentioned her mother? But hadnât he asked her why she wanted to be a doctor?
As soon as Bella arrived at the hospital, a nurse told her that someone was waiting for her before she could even reach her office.
Assuming it was a familiar patient, she initially dismissed the appointment. However, as she entered her office and saw a woman dressed like a wealthy matron sitting in her chair, a wave of unease washed over her, causing her to slow her pace.
The woman didnât bother to stand up when she saw Bella. Leaning back in her chair with her legs crossed and arms folded, she looked down at her.
After a moment of contemptuous scrutiny, she finally spoke, âYou must be Bella?â
The voice confirmed Bellaâs suspicions, but she kept her expression neutral. âYes, Iâm Bella,â she replied. âIs there something you need, Mrs. Kennedy?â
A flicker of surprise crossed the womanâs face, perhaps because she hadnât expected Bella to recognize her so quickly. âI need to talk to you. This isnât a good place for it. Can we step outside?â
Bella knew exactly why Elaine Baldwin was there and had no intention of wasting time. âMrs. Kennedy, Iâm very busy, but I can give you a clear answer right now. Itâs not possible. If youâre not here for a medical appointment, then please leave.â
Elaine suddenly stood up and grabbed the pen holder from the desk in a fit of rage before hurling it at Bella. âWho do you think you are? How dare you speak to me like that? Youâre nothing! Iâm doing you a favor by even being here. Donât get ahead of yourself! Youâre a whore, just like your mother!â
The pens in the holder didnât hurt when they hit her, but the womanâs insulting words pierced Bellaâs heart.
Her colleagues tried to calm Elaine down and gently pulled Bella away.
Bella glared at Elaine with her fists clenched. She couldnât understand how this woman had the audacity to criticize her mother.
It was clear that Simon had been involved with her mother first So why was this interloper so bold as to dictate to her?
Seeing that Bella wasnât responding either verbally or physically, Elaine grew even bolder. âWhat are you staring at? Huh? What are you going to do? Fine, if youâre not going to talk to me now, Iâll just wait outside the hospital until youâre ready.â
