Chapter 231 The nurse hurried over and said, âThe patient doesnât seem right. Move her to the emergency room now!â
Jerome laid Kylie on the gurney. The color drained from her lips as she mumbled, âIâm fine⦠My dadâ¦â
The nurse wheeled her off to the emergency room, and Jerome lifted Carter up in a haste.
âKylie, what happened? Please donât scare me!â He stumbled toward Kylieâs gurney.
Jerome went with him, carefully guiding him to avoid him collapsing .
Mikayla stood where she was, overwhelmed by the throbbing pain in her palms.
Her husband, the man whom Celeste was so sure that he wasnât going to file a divorce, was rushing toward Kylie now.
He didnât even spare her a glance, let alone be concerned about her injury.
A few drops of blood splattered on the ground.
She took out a tissue from her bag, and pressed it onto the wound.
She took the lift and went downstairs.
Instead of heading toward Mikeâs car, she emerged from another exit and left in a cab.
âMissus, where are you going? Are you alright?â The driver asked again after Mikaylaâs extensive silence.
She peered down at the bloodied tissue and replied, âJust drop me off at any clinic.â
The driver was baffled. Didnât she just come out of the hospital? Why was she headed for a clinic now?
âI canât tolerate the long queue and tedious procedures at the hospital,â Mikayla added. âItâs more convenient to visit a clinic,â
The driver took her word for it.
âYouâre lucky that youâve hailed me then. Iâm a local, and I know a 24âhour clinic nearby. Itâs very late now, and the other clinics are all closed.â
âThanks.â
They arrived at the clinic after a while, and she gave him a 100âdollar tip.
Mikayla strode into the clinic right after getting out of the car.
A female doctor, Anne Cleveland, was on shift.
She gasped when she saw Mikaylaâs wound. The gravel had her palms covered in blood.
âOh dear, it must be painful! Your hands look so delicate and slender,â Anne said empathetically.
Mikayla remained silent.
Chapter 231 Anne produced a bottle of disinfectant and a pair of tweezers.
âIs there anyone accompanying you? The procedure to remove the gravel to reduce inflammation usually hurts a lot. Iâm worried that a delicate woman like you might cry. Do you want to ring your boyfriend and get him to accompany you?â she asked.
Mikayla shook her head. âNo. Just carry on with the treatment.â
âWhy? Do you not have a boyfriend? Youâre gorgeous, though!â Anne in the mood to gossip.
Mikayla flashed a faint smile. âIâm married, actually. Heâs with someone right now, so I donât think he can come.â
Anne was rendered speechless.
Judging from Mikaylaâs reaction, she could roughly deduce what happened.
âI suppose he must be blind for abandoning his lovely wife and accompanying someone else instead!
Anne said Mikayla smiled, but she didnât utter a word.
Anne refrained from probing further, began to treat her wound.
The procedure was excruciating due to the overwhelming pain of disinfecting the wound.
Even most men couldnât endure the pain, yet Mikayla kept quiet nonetheless. She didnât grimace at all.
Anne was astounded. âYouâre remarkable.â
Mikayla didnât reply.
She thought the pain was nothing compared to the pain she had to endure when she was diagnosed with stomach cancer in her previous life.
Her phone rang once her treatment was almost done.
She glanced over at the caller ID and muted her phone instantly.
Is it your husband?â Anne asked.
