Chapter 40 Wanda was seated in the armchair while a few elegantly dressed women conversed with her âGrandma!â Mikayla called out in a bright tone.
The crowdâs attention was drawn over.
A radiant smile spread across Wandaâs face when she caught sight of Mikayla.
âLook whoâs here!â
Mikayla and Jerome approached Wanda.
âGrandma. Greetings to all the lovely ladies here,â Jerome greeted politely.
âYouâre truly a caring person, Jerome. Unlike some in our family who claim to be busy all the time, you always make time for Grandma!â
âExactly there anything that can keep Jerome too occupied? Heâs in charge of Miller Group but still managed to find time to be here. Frankly, he must find us elders a bit bothersome.â
âCertainly! Jerome is both capable and devoted. Mrs. Miller Senior is certainly fortunate to have him!â
Jerome maintained a faint smile as he listened to the praises.
He glanced at Mikayla briefly and replied, âAunts, youâre too kind. But I donât get as much time as Iâd like to spend with Grandma. Kay usually takes care of that.â
Mikayla thought she had misheard him when Jerome uttered her hickname, âKayâ.
Jerome had never addressed her that way, even in social situations.
Mikayla fixed her gaze on Jerome as she tried to discern something from his expression.
Nevertheless, Jerome remained composed. She couldnât find anything inappropriate.
Wanda observed Jerome and Mikaylaâs expressions calmly.
She then quipped to Jerome, âYouâve got it figured out. You finally know how to treat Kay right!â
âExactly! Kay is sure a devoted child! Sheâs not only pretty but also a perfect match for 2/3 Jerome!â
The group of women continued to praise Mikayla.
Amidst compliments, some uncles sought to have a word with Jerome.
Akin to a caring husband, Jerome suggested to Mikayla, âWhy donât you stay with Grandma Iâll be right over there.â
Mikayla acted in concert, displaying a poised smile.
âSure âKay and Jeromeâs relationship is really getting better!â
One of the aunts addressed Mikayla and asked, âWhen are you and Jerome planning on having kids? Perhaps itâs time for us all to level up! Right, Mrs. Miller Senior?â
Wanda chuckled and replied, âWhy the rush? Kay still a long way to go. Sheâll have kids when sheâs ready. Iâm not oldâfashioned, and I wonât force her.â
After exchanging conversation and laughter, Wanda mentioned wanting to stroll in the garden. Mikayla then readily offered to accompany her.
Mikayla supported Wanda as they headed to the garden.
âKay, itâs been a while since you last gave me a call. Donât tell me youâre avoiding having me as your Grandma?â Wanda asked in a teasing tone.
âHow could I, Grandma?â Mikayla said in a coquettish tone.
âIâve said it before. Youâd still be my grandma, even if Jerome and I were to divorce!â
âDonât say that, Kay.
Wanda gently tapped Mikaylaâs head.
âItâs typical for young couples to have disagreements. They always make up in the end. Did you have the broth that I sent to you last time?â
Thinking about the soup from before made Mikaylaâs lips tingle slightly.
She pouted.
âGrandma, you donât have to do that anymore. Nothing happened between us. We ended up in quite an unpleasant stir.â
âThat fellow mustâve caused trouble again â
Wanda shook her head in frustration âKay, Grandma can tell that Jerome was starting to be serious about you. Are you really not going to change your mind?â
Mikayla shook her head.
The previous scene was merely a pretense for the elders.
âGrandma, I understand you suggested giving us some time to calm down and process things after the birthday. But we donât need it.â
Mikayla said earnestly, âI was the one who forced the marriage. Jerome wonât have a change of heart about me, no matter how long it takes. I donât want to tie him down anymore.â
Wanda clasped Mikaylaâs hand in hers and replied in a serious tone, âKay, Jerome had always been strongâminded in nature. If heâs reluctant, I wonât be able to persuade him into marriage with you.â
