Alondra knew she had gotten her way after she heard Edithâs words.
She was relieved, but she had to pretend that she was sad.
âMrs. Lowery, I donât want to think about it now.â
As Alondra spoke, her eyes turned red. âI very much regret that I wonât be around to take care of you in
the future. Please take this dress as my last gift for you before I leave.â
Edith was happy at first. But when she heard Alondraâs words, she was shocked.
Edith put down the mug and asked Alondra, âWhat are you talking about?â
âHendry has been growing impatient with me lately. He said that he would send me abroad. And heâs
already started the paperwork. I guess I will be leaving soon.â
Edith had heard about that before. But she didnât know exactly why Hendry and Alondra fell out.
Edith thought, if Alondra left, who would buy these beautiful clothes for me? Kaylah would never do that
for me. And Hendry wouldnât even think of doing it. As for Cecilia⦠she takes things from me more
often than she gives them to me.
Thinking of the gifts Alondra gave her over the years, Edith hated the idea that Alondra would leave.
Not that Edith liked Alondra, Edith was sad that she would not get gifts from Alondra anymore.
âWhat exactly happened between you and Hendry? Why did he suddenly renounce you?â
Alondra raised her hand to wipe away her tears. She looked pathetic.
Then, Alondra told Edith about the kidnapping. Of course, Alondra didnât tell Edith everything. She
screened herself. And she said Kaylah and the two kidnappers set her up. Now that Hendry thought
that she was the one who planned that kidnapping. And Hendry was furious.
Edith believed that immediately.
âI knew Kaylah is not a nice person! She is a little sl*t!â Edith was angry that she had been deceived by
Kaylah for so long. She said, âKaylah must do that on purpose. So that Hendry would want to send you
abroad.â
Alondra shook her head in tears.
âAnyway, things had happened. Iâm sure Hendry will send me away.â
âNo way!â Edith said angrily, âDonât worry, as long as I am here, I wonât let Hendry send you

was head over heeled in love with Kaylah. But Iâm not a fool!â She continued, âI bet Kaylah played you

Alondra laughed within herself when she heard that. Alondra thought Edith was stu*id. She was st*pid
enough to believe such a story.

âIâm Hendryâs mother. He has to listen to me. Donât worry!â
Edith patted Alondraâs hand, trying to comfort her. And Edith promised Alondra that she would take
care of this.
Alondra smiled when she heard that. And then, they fell into small talk. They had a nice time catching
up. Both of them were happy.
After talking with Alondra, Edith didnât call Hendry immediately. She thought about Alondraâs
words.
And then, she went online. She felt both angry and happy when she found out someone was
complimenting Kaylah on the Internet.
No matter what, Kaylah was once her daughterâinâlaw. Edith thought the praise people gave Kaylah
was also a compliment to both her and her son.
After reading all those positive comments, Edith began to think that maybe it was a good thing that
Kaylah and Hendry could get back together. As long as Kaylah had learned to respect her, she would
try to take Kaylah in.
