CHAPTER 30
MISHTI'S POV
The next two days went in a blur. I felt super bored sitting simply on my hospital bed, doing nothing. The doctors regularly checked my progress and I was forced to eat the hospital food, which I would have avoided by all means, if I had the option.
Meanwhile, mom and dad flew here, after they came to know about my accident. Mom started crying when she saw me and scolded me for being irresponsible. Dad just hugged me and stayed silent. They were pretty shaken too, I guess.
Kunal introduced Kuhu to Mom and Dad and to say that they were shocked would be an understatement. Dad stood stunned for a few minutes, realizing that the son he thought was "innocent", was no longer "innocent". Mom started her second round of crying stating that her son was now old enough to have a girlfriend and soon, he would get married and she would have grand-children. Kuhu blushed a furious shade of red at this, while Kunal just smirked.
Men.
Meanwhile, Abir was on a totally different tangent. He was silent, gloomy and undoubtedly weird. He adamantly stayed in my room all the time, except when he went home to take a bath, which he returned within 15 minutes, I don't even know how. Kunal brought his food to the room as well, as he even refused to go to the canteen to eat. He is the one who would sleep in my room every night and also the one who would feed my every meal. The rest of them understood that he was disturbed and scared, so none of them protested.
He still thinks that I did not hear his whisper that day, and I am going to maintain it that way for the time being. I understand that he is blaming himself for my accident, so I am going to talk to him once we go back to Rajkot, by when both of us would be definitely better.
Right now, the nurse removed my hair braid, cleaned my wound and redid my bandages. The doctors have instructed me to redo my bandages once again after 5 days, which we will do in Rajkot. We are planning to leave to Rajkot the day after tomorrow, with my parents finally agreeing to go back home by flight, after the fight that Abir put up that he would be the person to accompany me by car.
After she finished her job, she smiled politely at me and Abir. I smiled and nodded at her, while Abir just stared back at her. Seeing him glare at her, she squirmed in her place before she walked out of the room.
I rolled my eyes, "Abbi, at least smile at her. Poor girl."
He rolled his eyes, before opening his phone and watching some video. I sighed heavily, being bored.
During the accident, my phone apparently crashed and smashed into smithereens. I felt very bad for my phone, because you know, it didn't deserve to die.
Cue the fake tears.
But anyway, Kunal went to the shop and got a new one for me, and reactivated my sim card. Thank god, my number didn't change. That would give me a huge headache. Even though I lost all my contacts, other people would still have my number on their contact list. So, that is a relief.
As if on cue, my phone rang. I could see that it was from an unknown number, but still I was thrilled because that is the first phone call I am receiving on my new phone. Abir was immediately alerted and he sat straight. He quickly took my phone and answered my phone call, before I could even utter a word.
I glared hard at him, while he still had that 'I don't care' expression on his face. "Hello?", I heard him ask on the phone.
His glare became hard and his jaw clenched, "Nishanth?"
My face immediately lit up. It's been over four days since I talked to both Ketki and Nishanth. I was secretly hoping either of them would call me.
I motioned Abir with my hands to hand over my phone to my left hand. But instead, he scrunched his eyebrows and pouted slightly before muttering into the phone, "We don't know any Nishanth here. Wrong number."
He cut the call rudely and placed my phone on the side while I just gaped at him.
Oh, he just did not do that.
"Abir, why did you do that?", I asked him sternly.
He looked at me innocently, "What did I do, Mishtipie?"
I narrowed my eyes at him, "As if you don't know."
He shook his head as if he was the world's most innocent child, "I don't."
I heaved a breath, "Why did you cut Nishanth's call?"
He scrunched his eyebrows, "Who is Nishanth? I don't know anybody of the name Nishanth."
I rolled my eyes, "Abir, cut your act. I know that you know him. Why did you talk to him like that, Abir?"
He clicked his tongue in frustration, "First, call me Abbi."
I smirked internally. I knew where this was going. My Abir is now jealous.
I raised my eyebrows, "Why?"
He looked flabbergasted, "Why? Maybe because that's how you're supposed to call me!"
After a few seconds, I smiled softly at him, "What happened, Abbi?"
He looked at me with a very small pout and spoke softly, "Nothing. He called you 'Miss Tea-pot' and I got angry."
I raised my eyebrow at him, "Angry?"
He nodded softly, "Haan"
I chuckled slightly at his cuteness. He is never going to accept that he was jealous. But still, I decided to push him a little, "Why did you get angry?"
He stammered, "I-I don't know. He called you by your nickname and it frustrated me. That's all."
I chuckled once again and gave up on the topic. After a few seconds of staring at each other, I asked, "Are you going to come or should I do it myself?"
He immediately stood up and squirmed in his place, "No-no I-I'll do it.", a cute blush formed on his cheeks.
He stood exactly behind me before he collected my free hair together. He took a comb from his pocket before weaving it through my waist length locks. He gently and carefully combed my hair without disturbing the new bandage. I felt him part my pair into two before he started braiding it for me.
It all started day before yesterday, after the nurse came and checked my wounds. Since my hair irritated me, I tried to push them back but I wasn't able to do anything because of the fracture on my right hand. Noticing it, Abir immediately rushed to me, smoothened my hair and put a pony tail for me, since it was the easiest thing to do. But yesterday, he brought a comb from home, combed my hair and braided it. I don't know where he learnt it from, considering he doesn't have a sister or any other female friend to learn it from. Even though a few strands stuck out, I would rather stay like this my whole life than comb my hair ever again.
I spoke softly, "Abbi, that nurse did not know that you did my hair. Don't glare at her again just because she removed it. Poor soul."
He only huffed in response.
I cleared my throat and asked him, "Where did you learn all this?"
He took a few seconds to answer, "Um- ", he cleared his throat, "YouTube?"
I blushed furiously. He learnt new hairstyles every day, just so he could braid for me. This guy makes me feel new things every day, and if possible, I am falling more and more in love with him.
Love is like a breath of fresh air- homely, comfortable and nice. It gives us a sense of relief, peace and security, knowing that you have the person you love who would stand by you at all times. Love is sometimes misinterpreted as just physical attraction, but it is so much more than that. It is the emotional need of the person to be by your side in your bad times, the physical need to stay with him in your happy times and the eternal need to stay together forever.
Once he was done, he gently placed my braid over my shoulders, so I could see it.
He looked at me with hopeful eyes and pink cheeks, "Do you like it?"
Still blushing, I nodded, "Yeah, I love it."
Unlike yesterday's braid, this one had more intricate designs and looked more complicated. So, I asked, "What is this called?"
He scratched his neck below his ear, "Um-It's called fish-tail braid."
I whispered, "Thank you."
He stammered, "No- no don't say it. I mean-"
I cut him off, "No. You have put in a lot of efforts for me. But also, you don't need to do it if you don't want to. I mean, it must be difficult for you-"
He cut me off, "No no no, I'm doing it because I want to."
I stayed silent, "Okay. Thank you so much."
His eyes were fixed on the ground, his cheeks and ears pink from blushing.
Already being flustered and seeing him blushing, I went on with my instinct.
I called him softly, "Abbi, can you come here please?"
This broke his trance and he walked to me with worried eyes, "What happened Mishtipie? Do you want something? Should I â "
I shushed him and pulled him closer to me by my left hand. Knowing what I was going to do, I shivered in anticipation and my heart thudded loudly. Once he was close to me, I closed my eyes and gently placed my lips on his cheek and kissed him softly. Once I pulled back, I anxiously opened my eyes, and whispered softly, "Thank you."
Even though he was blushing, he didn't say or do anything. He pulled back and turned away from me.
I was mortified. Immediately, negative thoughts filled my head. I think I shouldn't have rushed it. He is slowly just coming out of his shell, after my accident.
Oh god, I think I spoiled everything.
But just then, he turned and looked at me. He quickly walked towards me and before I could react, I felt him kiss my left cheek and my heart literally skipped a beat and jolts passed through my body.
He looked deep into my eyes, with a soft smile playing on his lips. My body shivered at the sudden proximity and my breathing got heavy. Not knowing how to react, I looked down and started fiddling with my fingers.
He lifted my chin up with his hand, making me look at his eyes. Looking at his hazel eyes gleam with happiness, I felt my cheeks burn and a warm fuzzy feeling fill my heart. He looked at me with pure adoration and something else, as he said, "Why are you like this, Mishtipie?"
Not being able to find my voice, I whispered, "Like what?"
"So precious."
I looked at the love of my life. Every single second of these few days, he sat by me, catering to my needs and supporting me. So, I whispered back, "Not as much as you are."
