Chapter 4: CH 4

Bai Zhen Zhen raised her head and looked over. It was a refined-looking man wearing patient pyjamas. However, his hairstyle was slightly messy, making him look similar in age.

This man was currently staring at her in shock, his mouth agape, as if he had seen something amazing.

—— Bai Zhen Zhen: “System, he can’t be the second male lead, Jiang Mu Yang, can he?”

The second male lead in the novel was called Jiang Mu Yang. He had a mature and doting big brother role in the novel, and was also the female lead’s main back-up boyfriend and the person she went to whenever she needed a source of warmth.

However… This person’s personality didn’t seem to fit the setting.

—— System: “Host, I have not detected any lead characters.”

Bai Zhen Zhen breathed a sigh of relief.

So this man wearing a hospital pyjamas probably had something wrong with him.

“Fifty thousand dollars… per month?!” Bai Zhen Zhen was shocked into a daze.

Ling Hao Chen really needed to see a psychiatrist.

Michael continued: “Because this is just the probation period, so the salary is a little low…”

Bai Zhen Zhen: “…”

Hearing the sum of fifty thousand dollars, Yang Su Ping’s eyes were practically glowing.

“Zhen Zhen…” Father Bai also stood up and walked over to her, quietly saying, “Don’t sign it first. How could a secretary’s salary be so high! I’m worried that this job seems a little shady…”

“A hundred thousand.”

A cold voice entered their ears.

Bai Zhen Zhen curiously looked over. Ling Hao Chen had already stood up.

“A hundred thousand dollars a month.” Ling Hao Chen’s lips hooked up, “How about it?”

Father Bai, Yang Su Ping and Bai Ru Meng were all shocked into silence.

Bai Zhen Zhen felt shivers creep down her spine under Ling Hao Chen’s gaze. She secretly shifted away from his gaze, and gave a bright smile: “CEO Ling, it’s not about the money. I’m just a waitress at a restaurant, how could I be your secretary?”

Michael answered her question on behalf of Ling Hao Chen.

“Miss Bai, Boss had already instructed me. Based on the previous incident where you picked up his phone, your ability to reason and persuade Boss to achieve the greatest benefit for yourself shows that you have a talent for business and an analytical mind, so Boss reckons that Miss Bai is suitable to be his personal secretary.”

Bai Zhen Zhen: ???

Although there was a stiff smile on her face, Bai Zhen Zhen’s heart was already vomiting in anger.

—— How did a greedy heart transform into a talent for business?!

—— Didn’t he already have a special assistant already?!  Why would he still need a female secretary?!

—— Even if he wanted to hire her, he didn’t need to excitedly rush over to the doctor’s office to find her!! As a legend in the business world, did Boss Ling have nothing to do today?!

Michael handed over a pen: “Miss Bai, after Boss understood your family’s situation, carrying an excellent heart concerned about his employees, he decided to sponsor your father’s treatment. The medical fees during his treatment period will all be borne by the Ling Corporation.”

Yang Su Ping’s mouth almost hit the floor.

Bai Ru Meng’s eyes were also overflowing with unconcealable envy.

“Since that is what you wish, then I will not force you.”

Ling Hao Chen pretentiously patted the dust of his shoulder, and prepared to walk away with his head held high.

As he brushed past Bai Zhen Zhen, he suddenly brought his face in close. A pair of sharp eyes stared deeply at her, a trace of amusement hidden deep within their depths.

“Woman, this move of playing hard to get is useless on me.”

Leaving these words behind in Bai Zhen Zhen’s ears, Ling Hao Chen left without turning back. The crowd of black-suited bodyguards followed him closely behind.

Bai Zhen Zhen was flummoxed.

This CEO was sick in the head!

Couldn’t he get the facts right – Today, it was him who took the initiative to find her, alright??

Under Doctor Zhang’s arrangements, Father Bai was smoothly admitted into the hospital.

The hospital rooms were very crowded during this period of time. Just nice, there was a patient who transferred beds. As Father Bai’s surgery was also pressing, Doctor Zhang arranged for him to stay in that patient’s bed.

“Don’t say it like I’m taking care of your dad for the sake of money.” Yang Su Ping spit out a line, but suddenly stopped in shock, “What is wrong with you today? Why have you been constantly calling me ‘Aunty’?”

Bai Zhen Zhen replied with a sincere expression: “You and I were originally not close. It’s tiring to act, so I won’t act any longer in the future.”

Hearing that, Yang Su Ping immediately stirred up trouble: “Aiyo, what have I done wrong! I arduously raised you together with your father, but now that you have earned some money, you just turn around and disown me…”

The room had three beds. The patient closest to the window and his accompanying family members turned to look at them at the same time.

“If you keep complaining, then that two thousand dollars will be gone.” Bai Zhen Zhen went straight to the point.

Yang Su Ping immediately shut up.

By the side, Bai Meng Ru looked like she wanted to say something on behalf of her mom, but before she could, the sound of footsteps travelled from outside the door.

Father Bai slowly walked into the room with the help of a young man.

Bai Zhen Zhen subconsciously stood up from the stool, asking: “Dad, didn’t you go to the toilet? What happened?”

“The toilet tiles were too slippery. I was careless and took a fall, but thankfully this young man helped me up, and even sent me back…”

Yang Su Ping became anxious: “Fell?! How could you fall?! Old Bai, your lungs already cost a tidy sum of money. If you add on more illnesses, how can we continue to pass our days! If you were to become disabled…”

“Can you speak less?” Bai Zhen Zhen flashed Yang Su Ping an unhappy look.

She went forward, supporting her father by his arm, and thanked the man: “Thank you, handsome…”

As their eyes met, Bai Zhen Zhen froze – Isn’t this the fool she saw just now when paying?!

Facing Bai Zhen Zhen’s gratitude, the “fool” didn’t have any reaction, just silently staring at her.

Bai Zhen Zhen laughed awkwardly.

What a poor child, he’s really a fool.

Bai Zhen Zhen supported her father to the bed.

The “fool” stood in his original spot, staring at the figure of her back.

—— Huo Xiang: “System, please confirm the target again.”

—— System: “Confirmation complete, she is the novel’s female lead, Bai Zhen Zhen.”
