Pov: Jules
One more day Jules. Then you are LEAVINGG. That is what's been roaming around in my head this morning. My last day at this school, fucking finally.
I don't like school. To be honest, does anyone really like school?
The homework and stuff are fine but the people... nuh uh, definitely not it. I used to think I was an ok person to be friends with. But my 2 years of attending Riven High School made me think differently. I have no friends, but that's ok. My headphones and I are besties so that counts for something.
The walk to school is about 15 minutes. My mom and dad don't take me to school because 'it's not on their route to work'. Totally understandable. To be fair I love walking, I do it all the time. When I'm feeling any kind of emotion, I take a walk.
Riven High School is around the corner, but I make a pitstop at my favourite bench. There is still about 15 minutes until first period starts. I sit down on the bench and take out my cigarettes and lighter. Normally I don't smoke before school but today I just want to make sure the stress levels are low. I light the cigarette and inhale. I know smoking is bad for you but who gives a fuck.
I have 2 goals for today.
1: avoid Katie
2: make it to the end of the day without falling asleep
Seems doable.
Spoiler I failed both :D
Katie and I used to be friends when we were little. She had a glow up just before we entered high school, so she became the popular kid and I somehow stayed 5'3. She turned on me. Very sweet of her, I know. Now she's just saying mean things to me in the hallways. I guess all the attention from boys got to her head.
Awh man my cigarette is already out. I exhale the last of the smoke and stand up to face my last day of school here.
Walking into school heading straight for my locker. I hear a high-pitched voice. "Hi Dylan, nice to see you today" I turn around to see Katie standing in her full glory. "Hey Katie" I say with a soft smile.
I always thought, if I'm nice maybe she'll be nice back. Sadly, never works that way. "Wow look at you still trying to play nice" Katie says, her voice dripping with condescension. "What's the plan? Maybe try to convince everyone you're not a total loser before you escape to your new school?"
I force myself to keep a smile on my face. "Actually, I'm looking forward to switching schools. Riven High School has been... an experience."
She tilts her head, acting innocent. "An experience? Is that what they're calling, sitting alone at lunch and not even having one friend now?" Her friends, who seem to follow her like lost puppies, giggle behind her.
My pulse quickens. I know better than to give into Katie's comments. The last thing I want to do is give her satisfaction. So, I choose to leave. I close my locker and head for my first class.
Katie stops me in my tracks "But hey, enjoy your little farewell. Just remember that no one will miss you here. You're just the girl who walks around with her headphones and writes her little sad stories in a journal. Good luck finding friends are your new school; they might not be as nice as we are."
'Nice as we are' who is she talking about?! I look at her straight in the eyes and feel a certain rise of confidence "I'd rather be alone than have fake friends like you"
I turn to leave but Katie's laughter rings my hears like a bell. "Whatever makes you sleep at night Dylan!"
So much for avoiding Katie...
