Pov: Jules

The house is quiet when I close my bedroom door behind me. A little too quiet for my liking. My suitcase wheels scarping against the hardwood floor as I roll it down the hall. I stop for a moment and stand in my living room looking at my parent's room. Wondering if they would come out and say something- anything- before I leave.

Nothing...

I shouldn't have expected anything else. I sigh and turn to the front door. My finger tightens around the suitcase handle. This feels weird, going away without a goodbye.

"Jules, are you leaving already?"

My mom's voice comes from behind me. I turn around to find her leaning against the kitchen counter, still in her bathrobe and coffee in hand. Looking like she just gotten out of bed, no rush, no tears, no acknowledgment that I won't be living here for who knows how long.

"Yeah, I need to catch my flight and my uber is outside." I say forcing a little smile.

She nods, like it's everyday your only child leaves to move across the country. Wtf mother?! "Well good luck!" She says before taking a sip of her coffee.

Good luck... GOOD LUCK?! Thats it? Not 'I'm going to miss you' not 'I'm proud of you' just... good luck. I pull my lips into a tight smile, trying to fight back my disappointment. It's always been like this with her and dad- casual indifference, like they're checking off a box by acknowledging my existence. Off the checklist.

"Thanks" I mumble, shifting my weight uncomfortably. "Where's dad?"

She shrugs a little and blows on her coffee. "Work, as usual"

Of course. I shouldn't have expected anything else. Dad is barely home, working or on a trip for work. But it still hurts. At least mom said, 'good luck'. I glance at my phone for the time. "I should get going."

"Take care of yourself" she says over her shoulder as she walks to the dining table, conversation already forgotten.

I stand there a little longer, staring at the spot she was just standing. I grab my backpack and open the front door. The cold morning air hitting my face. Walking towards the car I glance one last look at the house, hoping my dad will wave me goodbye.

Nope, no more wave. No dad. No mom peeking through the curtains.

The driver puts my bags in the back, and I feel something against my feet. Juno's familiar purring reaches my ears. "Hey, buddy" I kneel a give him head scratches. "I'm going to miss you, you know that?"

He purrs louder and pushes his head into my hand. I can the tears threatening to fall. Juno's been the one constant in this house, the only thing that made it feel like home sometimes.

"I wish I could take you with me Juno, don't forget about me." He looks up at me with those big green eyes like he understands what's happening.

"Be good" I give a little kiss on the head and climb in the backseat of the car.

"Lax right?" The driver asks me, looking through the mirror. I startle a little by his voice. "Uh yes please" I say quietly.

I wipe away the tears not willing to let this grown man see me cry about leaving my cat. And I also didn't have a coffee this morning so I'll take all the time I can get to sleep.
