Ben couldn't get out of Alley Cat quick enough he had a bad feeling about what would happen to Gino's woman. Gossip around the car yard management implied she run off with a chunk of his cash, and he wanted revenge.
If that was the case he just helped murder or torture, or....whatever Gino would do because of him. Ordinarily that would have been hard enough to deal with, but it was Victoria's mother. Could he really live with himself knowing he had been the cause of Victoria's mothers' demise?
It was too late now though, he had already delivered her. He couldn't go back to Alley Cat and say he made a mistake and drag her sleeping, limp body out of there...and then what?
Ben intended to go home, but somehow along the way he ended up at Sarah's place. Sarah would understand his dilemma, she would comfort him, not confront him when he got home. Sarah seemed so far away from all the problems going on with his family. Problems he wanted nothing to do with.
Sarah met him out the front as he killed the lights turned off the engine and climbed out.
"What are you doing here?" she said, looping her arm around his waist as he leant forward and kissed her cheek.
"I come to make sure your bed was warm enough.... it's pretty cold tonight!"
Sarah laughed as they walked inside and she closed the door behind her.
"What will the ice queen say?"
"What do I care?" said Ben and shrugged.
"That's what I wanted to hear," she said as she led him down the hallway.
"So would you like a night cap before bed?" she asked as she pushed him into her bedroom and onto her bed.
"Make it a few," said Ben and sat on the edge of the bed.
Thank god he had Sarah.
"So why are you out so late anyway?" said Sarah pouring two drinks and handing him one.
"Gino, is down from Adelaide."
"He wasn't due here?"
"I know it is a surprise visit."
"Shit, are we all right?" she said, her eyes wide.
Ben hugged Sarah and wriggled closer to her on the bed.
"It was a personal visit..."
Sarah snorted with laughter.
"I didn't know he had a personal life."
They both looked at each other, Sarah straining to keep her laughter in check before they both laughed and rolled around on the bed.
Ben laughed, he did the right thing by coming to Sarah instead of going home. She made him forget his troubles.
He made a promise to himself that he would end things with Demi after work tomorrow. It was Sarah he wanted to be with more than anything.
"I love you Sarah," he whispered.
