Damn her, who the hell did Demi think she was, kicking him out of the house like that. Ben fumed as he sped down the highway, he would make her pay for this, and he knew exactly what she had done. His darling wife had planned to have this fight with him and for Danny to be there to sock him in the face. He would make her pay, he would to hit her right where it hurt like she had done to him.
He shook his head angrily as he pressed his foot down harder on the accelerator, making the car scream in protest. It wasn't supposed to go like that, he had envisaged her crying begging him to stay holding onto his leg as he walked out of the door. She wasn't supposed to throw things at him and demand he leave.
Deep down he still loved her and to see her so angry and fiercely protect herself made him feel almost inferior. It was like a bizarre high school scene when he was dating the most popular girl in school and before he got the chance she dumped him first. That was it, it was that dumped first feeling all over again. Except this time they were playing for real and this time there was far more at stake than a little high school fling.
Annoyed he realized she would take everything, even Trevor. It was all over between the both of them. In all honesty it had been over the day she went into labor with Trevor, and caught him and Sarah. Neither of them had the guts to admit it!
This was all her stupid friend Misty's fault. If it weren't for Demi visiting that dumb bitch she would never have caught him out in the first place. What the hell had she even been out driving around on her own for when she was so close to having Trevor?
Fishing his mobile phone out of his jacket he dialed a number, and cried out over the buzz of his engine "I'm on my way over to your place, I'm about 5 minutes away, be out front waiting, it's an emergency," and hung up the phone.
He rounded a corner, not even slowing down causing the tires to screech and pulled up on the curb with a jolt out front of a house with the porch light on. Sarah was waiting at the front door and rushed over.
"What is it, Ben, what's wrong," she said as she opened the car door making the interior light turn on.
"Get in!"
"Ben your face, what happened?"
"Get in I said!"
"Ok, I am, tell me Ben what happened are you all right, here let me look?"
"Nothing, come on close the door already," said Ben and pushed her hand away.
"Ben?" whispered Sarah as she closed the door hesitantly.
As he sped away from the house he sobbed.
"She kicked me out, and her dumb ass brother socked me in the face..."
"Slow down Ben, its ok, good riddance right?"
"I will show her, now Sarah, when I pull up at the house up here I want you to go knock on the door and create a scene. I'll be right back."
"Why Ben, what's going on, tell me babe, what is it?"
"You will know soon enough, do what I say it's important," slowing down the car he looked out of the window thoughtfully, " this one, this is the house, go knock on the door and tell the lady in there you run out of petrol, or something. Keep her busy!"
"But why, Ben?"
Ben squeezed her hand reassuringly.
"Just do it, I will explain everything in a minute, ok, please trust me."
"Ok, I will do this for you, because I trust you Ben," said Sarah trembling as he held her hand.
Ben turned the engine off, but left the car lights on and took off over the back fence of the house. Sarah stumbled in the semi darkness up to the front door and loudly knocked.
"Please help me, hello, anyone home, please," she begged making as much noise as possible, like Ben had instructed her.
A pretty lady with thick black curly hair opened the door as far as the slide lock chain would allow.
"Who are you?" She asked suspiciously, "What's wrong?"
"My car, it's broken down, it's out of petrol, can you help me?"
"I don't have any petrol, sorry!" The lady said as she closed the door.
"Please...." begged Sarah pitifully, pushing on the door to stop it from closing, "Please, could you call a tow truck, or something. Please don't leave me stranded here on my own...it's dark, and I'm cold... please."
The woman looked at her and her face softened.
"Sorry, you can never be too safe these days, I can ring someone to help you, you can wait here on my porch until someone comes if you like."
"Thank you, thank you so much ma'am, you are a Good Samaritan."
"You're welcome, I will go and make the call now, wait here, ok."
Sarah added quickly, "oh one more thing, would you be able to bring a glass of water, I'm really thirsty, if it wouldn't be too much to ask..."
The lady nodded and closed the front door.
"Sarah quick, let's go, hurry" hissed Ben loudly running down the driveway with something white in his arms. Hurrying after him they both got in the car he gently handed her his prize.
"Holy crap Ben what have you done!" screamed Sarah as they sped off down the street.
"Sarah this is Trevor my son."
"Ben I'm not joking with you, take him back right now, I mean it, there are better ways to be with your kid than.... kidnapping, and you made me an accessory!"
"Stop freaking out, it's ok, we will leave, tonight, we will go off somewhere and start fresh. We will be a family, isn't that what you wanted, me all to yourself?"
"I did Ben, but not like this, please take him back, you are out of control you're scaring me," looking down at the sleeping bundle she added, "and the baby."
"It's ok babe, just think, you and me together," taking pressure off of the accelerator he said, "look I'm slowing down, see, it's all right."
Sarah took a deep breath, as she slowly let it out she forced herself to relax a little, pushing her fear to the back of her mind.
He was acting crazy, steeling herself she said calmly, "Your right Ben, being together will be so much fun. We should stop at my house and get you cleaned up first, we could pack a few things then we will go. It will only take a few minutes, what do you say?"
"Aww gee I must be a mess," said Ben, and touched his face gingerly before rubbing his mop of disheveled hair. He tried to get a glimpse of himself in the rear-view mirror as the car veered into oncoming traffic.
Sarah grabbed the steering wheel instinctively and as they got safely back onto the right side of the road she held tightly onto Trevor.
"You are honey, you have blood all over your face and down your shirt. We need to find a shop to get Trevor baby things, if someone sees you with blood everywhere they will call the police for sure, let's play this smart, hey?"
Ben took a deep breath and said, "Of course you are right, see that's why I need you here with me."
Ben took a left turn off of the highway that would take them to Sarah's house, he smiled looking at them both huddled together next to him in the car.
"Thank god for Sarah..."
