"Talk about what?" I asked.
He tilted his head which was laying against the tree and faced me fully. The sunlight hitting the outer side of his face was making his skin glow even more.
Edward Cullen, is that you?
"Don't you have class?" He asked.
I gulped and looked at the leaf in my hands while playing with them, "I am skipping them."
His gaze was intently stuck on my face as he asked me another question.
"You didn't follow me, did you?"
I snapped my head to his and I could literally feel the intensity in his gaze as I held onto the stare.
"Why would I?" I was a little bewildered.
Why would I follow him of all the people? And that too here?
He took in a deep breath before humming and closing his eyes again. He was still facing me so I faced the other side because looking and admiring him was the last thing I wanted to do right now.
"What are you doing here?" I asked still facing away from him.
"Me?" He whispered to himself before sighing.
I waited for him as I saw another leaf fall off and land near my legs. When I didn't hear from him I faced to look at him.
His eyes were wide open and his face was not facing me anymore. He was looking up at the skyâlost in his own thoughts.
I sat straight and couldn't help but wonder about what was going inside that head of his.
"It's a serene place, isn't it?" He asked sitting straight himself. His eyes found their way back to mine as he gave me a smile.
Serene. I knew he was talking about this place but still listening to him say Serene gave me goosebumps.
I pursed my lips and nodded my head at him, "It is."
I could see him putting his guards down as he said the next words.
"I came here to visit her." His voice was soft, almost as if he didn't want me to hear him say it but at the same time wanted me to.
I let go of the leaves in my hands as I clasped them together, "Who?"
"My mother."
He didn't even say anything else other than that and just searched my face for some type of reaction, on the other hand I didn't know how to react.
Mrs Brown told me he lost his mother but Alec didn't know that I know. And I promised her that I won't tell him that I already know about it, but why is he suddenly bringing her up? And most of all why is he searching my face for some sort of reaction?
"Your mother?" I couldn't help but gulp, "Where?"
He continued staring at me and as each second passed I could feel a sinking feeling in my gut telling me something was wrong.
"Not that far." He answered.
Wait. Was her mother here? Like her memorial? Is that what he is saying?
My eyes widened a little but I composed myself quickly.
"Oh." I held onto a handful of grass.
One of the ends of his mouth lifted up into a smile as he asked, "Would you like to meet her?"
I don't know what he was trying to do.
Is that the moment where he is opening about his mother to me? But again, the way he was looking at me...I can't pin point out but there's something in his eyes.
"Meet her?"
He nodded his head and got up while dusting off all the grass and leaves stuck to his pants. I looked at him as he looked around before offering me his hand to take. He motioned me to take it.
Slowly, as if not sure I placed my hands into his. He pulled me up on my feet. I could feel the wind getting stronger now.
What? Even the weather was suddenly changing colours now. Couldn't it stay sunny for a little bit longer?
"Come on." He said walking away from me.
"Where are we going?" I asked walking behind him.
"I just told you. I came here to meet my mother, since you are my friend and you are here already I will let you meet her too."
I was his friend? Were we really good enough friends to let me meet his mother?
The sun was engulfed my the dark grey clouds. The usual weather it gets here. It cannot stay sunny for long enough, can it?
Alec walked the other side from where I came while I followed him behind.
The wind was getting stronger making my hair come all over my face and the grey clouds were only helping me go blind.
Alec stopped making me stop too. I put my hair into a ponytail so that they weren't all over my face. He looked down at the memorial before turning to look at me.
He pointed at it with his head, "You can say 'hi' to her."
I bit my lip and looked down at his mother's memorial. There was a photo of her and a bracelet. I kneeled down and looked at the photo. She had brunette hair but her eyes, Alec definitely got them from her.
"She was very pretty." I whispered.
I saw Alec kneel down beside me. I looked sideways and saw the blonde hair covering his forehead in a messy way because of the wind.
"She was." He smiled and looked at me.
I stared at him confused, "Why don't you ask me?"
"Ask you what?"
I continued staring at his face. He literally took me to his mother's memorial and I didn't even act surprised or asked him anything about it. Doesn't he think that's odd? Odd, that I already knew about it.
"Nothing." I whispered before sitting crossed legged.
I heard him sigh from beside me but I wasn't sure because the wind was too loud.
"I overheard you."
I looked at him surprised and raised my eyebrows at him in a questioning way. Overhead what? When?
"Huh?"
He looked at his mother's photo, "That day when I took you to my home. I overheard your and Mrs Brown conversation."
So he knows. He knew all along that I know about his mother.
"Weren't you mad?" I asked.
He didn't even budge from his place and if it weren't for his breathing I would have been fooled by how motionless he was sitting.
"I should have, right?" He faced me now and his eyes looked troubled, "I thought so too. But I wasn't mad at all."
"She just thought I was a close friend that's why she told me. Mrs Brown." I tried to justify.
I don't know why I was having this urge to justify Mrs Brown and not let him think of her as anything bad.
He gave me a warm smile, "I don't hate her at all. Don't you worry. Besides, I just told you, I didn't mind it."
We both looked at each other without the other looking away when I asked him, "You won't mind anyone knowing it?"
He pursed his lips and closed his eyes before shaking his head, "I don't mind you knowing it."
"Why?" I whispered.
He seemed surprised as he looked around before going into a deep thought.
"I don't know. I just don't." He finally said, "Maybe because you are a good friend?"
I was? But he doesn't even know anything about me.
"I feel like we click together." It was as if he read my mind the moment he said this.
We both sat crossed leg looking at his mother and all the green grass surrounding us which were looking darker because of the grey cold sky.
"It was an accident." I heard him say. If it weren't for the dark weather I could swear his eyes were welling up with tears.
"It must have been hard."
"I was just old enough to remember her. Now I can't forget her. The little happy moments," He chuckled lightly, "are stuck to me."
He was opening up to me and I had no idea how to comfort him. I was definitely not good with words so not sure, I just stroked his arms lightly while giving it a reassurance.
"The bracelet." He said making me look at the bracelet. There was a small house ornament on it as it laid there very proudly beside the photo, "I gave it to her." He smiled sadly, "To let her know that wherever she was, that was my home."
He looked at me, "No matter where."
One thing I was pretty sure about was the fact that whenever he loved, he did it with his full heart. Then why was he the one still looking for it?
The wind made a leaf fly and land on my lap. I picked it up and held it out for Alec. He looked at it confused before taking it from me.
"It is fascinating how a fallen leaf can go along the wind, isn't it?" I smiled.
