"So you are telling us that he asked you to be his project partner?" Henry said popping a piece of bubble gum into his mouth.

He offered me one which I took gratefully before nodding my head at him slightly,

"He did."

"Alec Alan did?" Max asked again slowly.

I rolled my eyes and ignored him this time. He just looked at my face from the side before heaving out a deep breath.

"Woah. Why would he do that though?" He asked looking in the front now as we walked towards our lockers to get books for the next class.

I bit my bottom lip. I haven't told them about how I helped him in the library. It wasn't my place to tell so I kept quiet.

"Do you think he might have feelings for you?" Henry suddenly asked stopping, making me and Max stop too.

I stared at him for a good minute before bursting out laughing. I hit his shoulder lightly as I laughed,

"That's bold of you to assume." I said controlling my laughter and standing up straight now.

Henry stood there with a dead expression on his face the whole while before furrowing his eyebrows, "why can't he like you?" He asked in all seriousness.

The smile from my face faded away. I cleared my throat before looking back at Max who looked at me in a questioning way too.

Because he is already in love with someone else?

"You were the one who told me he liked Liya." I tried to sound cheery.

"Well that was just an assumption from our side." He shrugged his shoulder.

A true assumption they had.

"Look, either way he doesn't like me. I can assure you that because..." he raised an eyebrow at me to finish my sentence, "because we don't even know each other that well. We just talked once for god's sake!"

Henry made a small pout with his mouth before nodding his head in understanding, "I guess you are right."

I sighed with relief before taking both their arms and linking them with mine.

"Let's go." I said enthusiastically and made our way through all the people.

We were just about to reach my locker when my eyes got caught on that one person standing at the end of the hall with his back against the locker.

I was about to ignore it but then I remembered the book in my bag. Alecs' book. I stopped before looking at Max and Henry,

"You guys go ahead, I will be back." I told them.

"What is it?" They asked me but I was already ahead of them.

"I have to return a thing back to it's owner." I yelled enough to let them hear.

I could feel their confused looks behind my back. I shook my head before continuing my way towards the blonde hair guy. I pushed away a few people trying to make my way.

I was just ten steps away from him. A smile made its way onto my face out of nowhere. I was about to call his name when I stopped in between. I stopped the second I saw his eyes lit up. I didn't even need to look away from his face to know the reason for that spark in his eyes.

But just to make sure my eyes followed his gaze and sure enough I saw Liya walking together with Xavier. Their hands clasped together. Looking happy.

I looked back at Alec as he waited for her to notice him. As he stood there not wanting to interrupt their moment.

With a spark in his eyes but at the same time a lot of pain. That was my first time seeing a person looking at someone with so much love but at the same time so much pain.

I was about to step forward and help him divert his attention but I stopped before I could even take a step.

Why should I help him? It's so unlike me to care about a person I don't even know much about. I can just give him back the book later.

Who cares anyways.

Without giving it a second thought. Without even giving him a second look I turned away from him and made my way back towards my locker.

I wasn't far away when I bumped into someone. The chemistry book which was in my hands fell out of my hands and onto the floor. I looked up and saw Brian looking down at me. Brian was known as the prankster of the school. And was one of Liya's closest friend.

"I am sorry." I mumbled before bending down to pick up the book I dropped but he beat me to it.

He was already kneeling and picking up the book for me. He looked up and passed me a soft smile before holding out the book for me to take. I blinked a few times before moving my hands to take the book away from him.

His eyes slid from my eyes to the book in his hands and before I could even reach out for the book he pulled his hands away. He got up and looked at the book skeptically.

"Is it.." he looked at me confused.

I withdrew my hands awkwardly before nodding my head at him, "Alec's chemistry book? It is."

When the look on his face didn't change I realised how weird it was for me to have someone else's book,

"I was just about to return it." I added quickly, "We share the same class and he forgot his book so I just wanted to return it."

Brian's face turned from confusion to that of understanding.

"I can give it to him for you." He said as an act of kindness.

I stared at him for a second.

No. I want to return it to him with my own hands. I turned my head around to look back and found Alec talking to Liya and Xavier now.

"I won't keep the book to myself, I promise." I heard Brian say with a laughter.

I looked back at him and smiled a little, "I know." I pursed my lips before nodding my head at him, "Sure. Please give it to him for me."

Brian saluted with two of his fingers, "I will."

He was about to say something else too but before he could even say anything else there was a loud smacking sound.

My mouth gape open as I stared at Evelyn, Brian's best friend, as she stood just behind Brian with her hand against Brian's head. It was like a slow motion. Her hand across his head as it made a loud sound while Brian's eyes went wide as he stumbled on his own two feet.

He snapped his head back with his fist ready but he stopped as soon as he saw Evelyn. He put his hands down and said, "It's you."

"Yeah it's me." She said rolling her eyes, "Stop messing with other people. Let's go where the others are."

I didn't even bother listening to the rest of their conversation and made my way towards the locker.

The book wasn't my responsibility anymore. I did what I could. It will reach him on its own.

But still, even though I didn't have to care about the book anymore, I somehow felt uneasy. I wanted to return it to him by myself.

I opened my locker and sighed. I took the books for my next class out and closed my eyes for a while. I don't know why but I felt tired.

I opened my eyes and closed the locker slowly. I couldn't help but gaze at the sky blue eyes looking at me with a smile on his face as I closed my locker.

"Thanks." He said while showing me the book in his hand.

I didn't even realise but there was already a smile on my face as I told him it wasn't a big deal.

"What are you doing here?" I asked looking at his hands as he passed them through his blonde hair.

Of course he didn't come here just to say thanks to me for the book. Or did he?

"Brian told me about the book." He said casually, "So I came to say thanks and to ask where we are going to meet?"

"Where are we going to meet?" I asked confused.

"Yeah? For the project. Don't tell me you forgot about it. We need to meet and discuss after school what we are going to do."

"Oh yeah. Any place is fine with me."

He thought for a while, "What about my place? We can go together after school in my car. Just meet me in the parking lot."

I gave him a nod, "Sounds good."

"I'll be waiting for you." He finally said with a smile before leaving.
