The air shimmered, and soon, a man revealed himself.
It was Jeok Seong.
Fully aware of why he had been summoned, Jeok Seong asked again.
"Do you want me to locate the house of this boy named Jang Woon?"
"Yes, please. Iâd greatly appreciate it."
"Young Master, please. Words like âIâd appreciate itâ between us? Such things are unnecessary. Of course, Iâll take care of it."
Jeok Seong then turned his head, speaking to another unseen presence in the void.
"You heard that? The Young Master wants to know the location of the house where a boy named Jang Woon lives."
At that, Yeon Woo-jin spoke up.
"Wait, isnât he your subordinate, Uncle Jeok Seong?"
"What?"
"I just assumed he was since heâs always following you around."
"You knew about his presence?"
"Yes, and I was quite surprised. Heâs remarkably handsome."
"Ahâ¦"
As Yeon Woo-jin spoke, the air rippled once more, and a man with the appearance of a noble emerged, bowing deeply.
"It is an honor to meet you for the first time. My name is Ma Ryang, leader of the Hellshadow Division."
"Hellshadow Division?"
"The division that serves as the shadow of our Lord, the Martial God."
"Oh, so youâre one of my grandfatherâs subordinates."
"You already knew of my existence?"
"Yes."
"How?"
That was what Ma Ryang was most curious about. How could this boy have known of his existence?
Ma Ryang glanced at Jeok Seong, who grinned.
"Itâs the Young Masterâs ability. Havenât I told you? Our Young Master is someone beyond the comprehension of ordinary mortals like us."
At Jeok Seongâs words, Ma Ryang tilted his head, puzzled. He had been told to guard this fragile boy with his life. Yet, Jeok Seong spoke as though he were addressing a genuine powerhouse, not someone to merely protect.
"You must be overwhelmed with thoughts. Verify them yourself later. For now, letâs handle the Young Masterâs request, shall we?" Jeok Seong said.
Ma Ryang turned back to Yeon Woo-jin and asked again.
"So, you want me to find the house of this boy named Jang Woon?"
"Yes, Iâm worried about him. I want to check on him myself."
"Understood."
Ma Ryang vanished without a trace.
A moment later, he reappeared, holding a hand-drawn map.
"This is the location of the boy named Jang Woonâs house."
"Thank you. Iâll head there right away."
With that, Yeon Woo-jin studied the map and hurriedly set off.
Yeon Woo-jin paced in front of a modest, ordinary house.
"This should be the place."
He couldnât sense anyone inside.
"Hello? Is anyone home?"
No response.
At that moment, a neighbor emerged from the house next door.
"Looks like Jang Woon has been quite popular today. Some friends of his came by earlier."
"Friends? Besides me, who else visited?"
"Yeah, he went off with them. They headed toward the mountain. You might want to check there."
"Thank you!"
Friends visiting Jang Woon? As far as Yeon Woo-jin knew, he was Jang Woonâs only friend.
âSomething feels off.â
An uneasy feeling gnawed at him, as though something bad was about to happen.
Yeon Woo-jin quickly ran in the direction the neighbor had pointed out.
***
Baekyaksa ,
The crumbling plaque at the entrance bore the name, hinting that this place had once been a temple.
Thud. Thud.
Inside, where no one seemed to have been for years, came the heavy sound of blows and the laughter of men.
"Hahaha! Come on, kid. Youâre not done yet. Stand up, or Iâm going after your little sister!"
"Look at him. He really dotes on his sister. See how he keeps holding on?"
"Heh, attack his legs. Thatâll make him fall."
A shadow moved cautiously toward the sound of voices.
From the darkness, a pair of eyes took in the sight of a young man being brutally beaten by a group.
The trembling pupils belonged to Yeon Woo-jin, who was now watching Jang Woon endure a savage beating.
Jang Woonâs appearance was pitifulâon the verge of collapsing, with no part of him left unscathed.
-Young Master, shall I intervene?-
Jeok Seongâs voice reached him through a telepathic link.
But Yeon Woo-jin didnât respond. Instead, he began walking toward the group, step by step.
"Haha! Just a little more, and heâll go down. Hahaha!"
Seon Woo-baek, laughing gleefully, suddenly turned his head and flinched in surprise.
"Holy shit! What theâ!"
He had spotted Yeon Woo-jin, whose expression was blank.
"What the hell? Howâd you get here?"
Yeon Woo-jin didnât answer. His gaze remained fixed on Jang Woon.
Jang Woonâs pupils dilated when their eyes met. The boy shook his head faintly, his lips moving with difficulty.
"Râ¦runâ¦awayâ¦"
Thatâs what he was trying to say.
Yeon Woo-jin closed his eyes tightly, his body trembling.
"Whatâs with this guy? Whyâs he shaking like that?" one of the bullies jeered.
"Looks like heâs scared shitless."
"Perfect timing. Weâre getting bored of this one anyway."
Seon Woo-baek and his gang turned their predatory gazes toward Yeon Woo-jin.
At that moment, Yeon Woo-jin opened his eyes.
A chill ran through the air.
The look in his eyes was like staring into an abyss, sending an inexplicable shiver through the group. They instinctively stepped back.
"Whyâ¦? Can I ask why youâve done this?"
Yeon Woo-jinâs calm voice cut through the tension, but it only made him seem more terrifying.
Annoyed by his own unease, Seon Woo-baek snapped.
"The hell you talking about? Weaklings get beaten. Thatâs just how it is! If you donât like it, get stronger!"
Yeon Woo-jin sighed softly.
"Comrades⦠shouldnât treat each other like this. Iâll give you a chance. Apologize to Jang Woon sincerely, and Iâll let this slide."
Seon Woo-baek scoffed, his voice dripping with sarcasm.
"Let this slide? You talk like youâre stronger than us. Who do you think you are?"
"Iâm tired of this brat. Letâs just crush him already," Gok Yang-woo muttered, annoyed.
Seon Woo-baek suddenly smirked as an idea struck him.
"Wait a second. Isnât this guy close to Jang Woon?"
"Yeah, theyâre best friends."
"What do you think itâd feel like to see your best friendâs little sister get hurt?"
"Oh? Youâre a genius! Thatâd be hilarious."
"Itâll be fun, wonât it?"
"First, we just need to catch this bastard."
"What are you waiting for? Grab him!"
Meanwhile, Yeon Woo-jin approached Jang Woon and gently put him to sleep, soothing his anguished expression.
Seeing Jang Woonâs body covered in bruises and wounds, Yeon Woo-jinâs face darkened with sadness as he stroked the boyâs hair.
âRest now. Iâll make sure to pay back those who did this to you.â
Through the hand stroking Jang Woonâs head, Yeon Woo-jin used his psychic powers to replay everything that had happened.
A shudder ran through him.
All of Jang Woonâs turmoilâhow he struggled not to give himself up to these peopleâplayed vividly in Yeon Woo-jinâs mind. Alongside it came the cruel, relentless abuse Jang Woon had suffered at their hands.
The gang had surrounded Yeon Woo-jin.
A smile crept across his lips.
âWhat the hell? Is this bastard smiling?â
âIs he insane?â
âDoes he not understand the situation?â
Yeon Woo-jin finally spoke, his tone calm but cutting.
âIt seems like itâs you lot who donât understand the situation.â
âWhat?â
âYou think itâs fine to torment the weak because youâre stronger. Thatâs fair.â
Crack.
âGuhhh!â
The boy standing closest to Yeon Woo-jin bent over like a shrimp, lifted into the air as though an invisible force had seized him.
Crash. Thud.
The boy was slammed into the ground, and Yeon Woo-jin stepped on his leg, shattering it with a sickening crunch.
âArrrrgh!â
As the boyâs scream echoed, the blackness in Yeon Woo-jinâs eyes spread, staining them completely.
âIâll make you one promise. Whatever you did to Woon, Iâll repay you tenfold.â
The group flinched instinctively, a rising dread warning them that they shouldnât provoke him any further.
Hidden in the shadows, Ma Ryang observed the scene, his eyes wide with astonishment.
âThat aura! That expression! Those eyes! Itâs exactly like the Lord when heâs enraged. He really is the Martial Godâs bloodline!â
Ma Ryangâs lingering doubts about Yeon Woo-jinâs lineage vanished. Until now, he had been skeptical. He knew Yeon Cheon-baek as a man without family, a solitary figure with no ties to women or offspring.
When Yeon Woo-jin had first been introduced, Ma Ryang had assumed he was merely a favored disciple. But now, seeing the unrelenting cruelty and those unmistakable black eyesâa trait that appeared when Yeon Cheon-baek was in a rageâhe was convinced. It wasnât just a shift in personality. It was as though a demon had surfaced.
The kids facing Yeon Woo-jin had no idea what they were dealing with.
Refusing to acknowledge their fear, they tried to suppress it by shouting.
âW-what the hell? This bastard thinks heâs tough now?â
âEveryone, get him!â
âTake him down!â
They charged at Yeon Woo-jin all at once.
Yeon Woo-jinâs body blurred, leaving afterimages as he moved.
Crack.
Snap.
Crunch.
The sound of bones breaking and shattering echoed from every direction.
The screams of those who had charged him filled the air as they fell one by one.
Yeon Woo-jinâs eyes had now turned completely black.
âArrghhh!â
âMy leg! My leg!â
âPlease! Stop! Iâm begging you!â
Their desperate cries, like something from the depths of hell, reverberated around them. But Yeon Woo-jinâs expression remained indifferent as he methodically crushed their bodies.
Crunch.
A shin snapped and bent unnaturally as its owner clutched it in agony. Yeon Woo-jin didnât even flinch as he moved to his next target.
âWhatâs wrong?â he asked, his tone eerily calm. âYou said it yourselves, didnât you? The strong have every right to toy with the weak. Since Iâm stronger than you, isnât it only natural that I do the same?â
Crack.
âGuhhh!â
A bone pierced through flesh with a sickening sound as another boy collapsed, foaming at the mouth before losing consciousness. Yeon Woo-jin calmly turned to find his next prey.
The remaining boys finally realized the truth.@@novelbin@@
Yeon Woo-jin was far stronger than anyone hereâa monster they couldnât possibly defeat.
Desperate to escape, they began crawling away, their legs broken. But Yeon Woo-jin didnât allow them the chance. Whether by design or coincidence, he had already shattered their legs, rendering them unable to stand.
One by one, he approached them, methodically breaking their arms so they couldnât even crawl.
Crunch.
âArrrghhh!â
âWhere do you think youâre going? I havenât even started yet.â
âS-sorry! Iâm sorry! P-please, stopâ¦.â
Jang Woon had begged them for mercy too, but they hadnât listened.
âDid you spare Jang Woon when he pleaded for forgiveness?â
âT-that wasâ¦.â
âDonât worry. I wonât kill you. Butâ¦â Yeon Woo-jinâs voice dropped to a chilling whisper. âYouâll experience every kind of pain a human can endure. I promise.â
âN-no! Iâll apologize to Jang Woon! Iâll beg for his forgiveness until he accepts! Just please, please stop!â
âIf Jang Woon wakes up to stop me, I might consider it. But what should I do? You lot went so far that he wonât be waking up today.â
âW-wait! I have a Healing Pill in my pocket! You know what that is, right? Itâs priceless and rare! If you give it to Jang Woon, heâll wake up!â
âYouâre noisy.â
Crack.
Yeon Woo-jin smashed the mouth of the boy offering the Healing Pill.
After subduing everyone around him, Yeon Woo-jin turned his gaze to Seon Woo-baek, the ringleader.
Seon Woo-baek stood frozen, unable to comprehend what had just happened.
Yeon Woo-jin smiled at him.
âYouâve been waiting, havenât you? Letâs play.â
As Yeon Woo-jin began walking toward him, Seon Woo-baek screamed, his face twisted with terror.
âS-stay back! Donât come near me!â
He hastily gathered his internal energy and launched a Twin Tiger Palm at Yeon Woo-jin.
Boom.
The attack struck Yeon Woo-jin squarely in the chest.
Yet he continued walking, completely unfazed.
âTh-this canât be happeningâ¦.â
