Chapter 125
âSame old.â Anastasia replied with a smirk, her words dripping with insincerity. Sheâd grown tired of Demi at their previous school reunion.
Demi, smiling a closed lip smile, said subtly, âYouâre too modest.â
She walked up to Anastasia, her eyes falling on her belly, and hinted, âWatch out, you might end up with blood on your hands.â
Anastasiaâs face turned sour. âI have no idea what youâre talking aboutâ
What did she mean? Blood on her hands?
Demi replied with a sarcastic tone, âWell, I certainly canât compete with your luck. A woman like you snagging a husband like Herman, itâs just not fair. Donât pretend, the truth always comes outâ
A woman who once had a messy private life and dropped out of school due to a pregnancy bagged the most influential man in Riverdale. This kind of luck was both admirable and envy-inducing
Demis ambiguous words confused Anastasia. Not wanting to argue, she bypassed Demi and headed for the exit. Deiniâs voice echoed from behind, âThe higher you climb, the harder you fall, Anastasia. Iâll be waiting.â
Anastasia had Hermans backing, so Demi didnât dare to really harm her. She could only vent through words.
Anastasia truly didnât understand what Demi meant. Sheâd never been on a high pedestal, how could she fall?
Demiâs words didnât bother Anastasia much. It was just a minor hiccup. Seeing Herman waiting for her at the door, she put Demi at the back of her mind.
At the hospital.
It was 10 pm, Demi visited Cason, âHad client meetings today, bit hectic. Sorry Iâm late. Howâs your recovery?â
Cason glanced at Demiâs clothes, âYou werent wearing this this morningâ
Heâd seen on social media that Demi was wearing a white dress in the morning, but now, she was in pants.
âWell, I spilled something on it, had to change. Demi attempted to change the subject, âBy the way, you mentioned Anastasia had a child before. What do you think would happen if Herman found out?â
Cason said grimly. âDonât meddle in this. I have my own plan.â
Despite Monica telling Cason the whole story, and Cason initially felt sorry for Anastasia, considering her past and how he was wronged by Herman, he hadnât given up his plan.
He was in debt of 80 million. Herman was Casonâs last straw. He had to get Herman to pay off the debt.
Anastasia was his bargaining chip.
Demi said, âJust curious, youâll be discharged in half a month, what about your creditors.â
Cason cut her off coldly, âI told you, itâs none of your business.â
Demi kept her mouth shut.
In the following days, Anastasia and Hermanâs relationship grew stronger Katelyn, who once helped tidy up their room, found out theyâd started sharing a bed and couldnât help but giggle. Looked like she might get a grandchild soon.
Katelyn shared the good news with the Salstrom family at the Salstrom Manor, even Feiman was pleased.
Anastasia successfully completed Everleeâs project, her status within the company rose, and her colleaguesâ attitude towards her changed significantly
Selena had always been critical of Anastasia. Selenaâs creativity hit a dead end and she couldnât produce new designs. When she passed Anastasiaâs desk, she noticed a few design drafts that caught her attention.
Although Anastasia didnât have a professional background, she was incredibly talented and innovative in jewelry design. The casual drafts on her desk made Selena both admire and envy. Selena was highly competitive, as the chief designer, she wouldnât let anyone surpass her
Seeing no one around during lunchtime when the design department staff was in the cafeteria, Selena carefully memorized the drafts before silently returning to her own office.
Anastasia had already had lunch and was on the phone with Herman.
Herman had to go on a business trip for a few days.
Anastasiaâs mood took a turn for the worse but she didnât show it. Habits can be scary. Sheâd gotten used to having Herman by her side every day. The thought of him being away for a few days made her feel empty.
Anastasia refurned to the office with Lauren, who had overheard Anastasiaâs phone conversation with Herman. Seeing her upset, Lauren jokingly said, âYou canât bear to be apart from him, can you? You seem like you really want to be by his side all the time.â
âNo.â Anastasia blushed. As they stepped out of the elevator, they bumped into a man carrying a ladder from the fire exit.
A colleague coming out of the secretaryâs office told the man, âHarmon, thereâs a light out in the computer room. Can you fix it?â
Hearing the name Harmon, Anastasia momentarily thought someone was calling Herman. The names Harmon and Herman sounded very similar.
Anastasia took a second look at the man. He seemed sincere, around thirty, and a bit chunky
âSure.â Harmon replied and headed for the computer room with his ladder.
Lauren curiously asked the secretaryâs office colleague, is he also an employee here? He seemed a bit slow!
The colleague from the secretary department replied, âHe was originally a security guard at the company. But since heâs handy with fixing appliances, we
put him in charge of that. Harmon is a decent guy. His parents have passed away and heâs already in his thirties, but heâs still single. He even tried online dating on a matchmaking website a while ago, but got cheated out of a bunch of money.â
Something about Harmon felt familiar to Anastasia. Not only was his name similar to Hermanâs, their backgrounds were pretty identical too â Hermanâs parents had also passed away.
Anastasia asked curiously. Which dating site was he on?â
â1 think it was OkCupid. That site is full of scams. He probably just ran into a scammer. If he canât find someone in real life, what are the odds of finding someone online, right? And you canât really gauge a person online. What if he gets scammed again?â
Lauren chimed in, âAnastasia, didnât you meet your husband on a dating site too? Can you tell me which one? It seems pretty reliable. Maybe we can recommend it to Harmon.â
Anastasia smiled and said, âYes, I did meet my husband on OkCupid. Guess I was just lucky and didnât run into any scammers.â
Lauren responded, âWell, itâs not always a sure thing. Everyone has their good and bad sides. You just got lucky, Anastasiaâ
As they were chatting, Harmon emerged from the server room and announced, âIâm done fixing the lights. Off to grab some grub nowâ
Harmon was a straightforward guy and spoke slowly, giving off the vibe of an easy target.
A colleague from the secretary department waved at him, âAlright, go have your lunchâ
Lauren grabbed Anastasiaâs hand and asked, âAnastasia, since your husband is on a business trip, what are your plans for the weekend?â
As Harmon was about to leave with his ladder, he couldnât help but stop in his tracks upon hearing Anastasiaâs name.
It was a name he found familiar. His most recent match from the dating website was also named Anastasia. He was late to their date and by the time he reached the coffee shop, she had already left. He was then matched with another person who ended up scamming him out of thousands.
