Chapter 153
Katelyn seemed quite shocked. âWhere on earth is your brother this late at night? I havenât seen him all day.â
Flynn responded, puzzled, âYeah, itâs a bit weird. His phone is off. Iâll ask Nelson.â
Flynn dialed Nelson, being Hermanâs assistant, he should have a clue about Hermanâs whereabouts. But Nelson was also clueless.
Katelyn glanced at the clock and exclaimed, âItâs the middle of the night now. What is he doing out there instead of being home with his wife? Anastasia needs to keep a tighter leash on him. Iâll talk to her tomorrow. This is unacceptable for a married man to be out this late!â
In the Salstrom family, the house rules were strict. Unless there was a party, everyone had to be home before midnight.
Flynn couldnât help but poke fun. âMom, if people didnât know any better, they would think Anastasia is your biological daughter, and my brother is some child you picked up off the street.â
Katelyn shot Flynn a look. âYou better watch yourself, mister. If you stir up any scandal, donât think about coming back
home.â
âMom, why are you blaming me again?â Flynn felt wronged and quickly changed the subject. âBy the way, is Dad still not home?â
âI have no idea what heâs up to these days. Heâs been leaving early and coming home late,â Katelyn said anxiously. âFlynn, you donât think your dad is fooling around with other women at his age, do you?â
âThatâs highly unlikely, mom. Youâre charming, beautiful, and irresistible. My dad isnât blind, why would he go looking for other women when he has such a beauty at home?â Flynn quickly flattered his Mom, âUnder your reign, our family has been running smoothly. Even Dad has had no scandals. Itâs all because of your wise management.â
Katelyn burst into laughter, âYou sure know how to sweet talk. Send a message to Anastasia, tell her Herman is working overtime, and she should go to bed. Iâll find out whatâs going on with your brother.â
No matter where Herman was or what he was doing, Katelyn had to reassure Anastasia first. This minor issue shouldnât affect their marriage.
Anastasia sat on her bed staring at her phone, waiting for a message from Herman. Sheâd made several calls but couldnât reach him. Then, a message came in from Flynn, âIâve found my brother. Heâs working late and his phone died. You should rest, heâll come back as soon as heâs done.â
Anastasia felt something was off. Couldnât he have charge his phone?
Flynn had already contacted Herman. Even if Hermanâs phone was dead, he could borrow a phone from a coworker to call
her back.
Anastasia was frustrated and heard a noise at the door. Thinking it might be Herman, she put on her slippers and went out, But Herman hadnât come back, and she stood at the door, waiting for it to open, but it never did.
After a while, she opened the door to look outside, but there was no one in the corridor.
Anastasia returned to her room, disappointed. Without Herman, she couldnât sleep and kept tossing and turning in bed. When you obsessed over someone but got no response, it brought a great deal of anxiety and pain.
Anastasiaâs eyes felt dry, but she didnât want to close them. It was already 3 am, and she started to feel sleepy. Unknowingly, she fell asleep. In a daze, she felt a cool breeze covering her.
Struggling to open her eyes, she had no idea what time it was, only that the sky outside seemed to be getting lit. With the light from the window, she could barely make out Hermanâs face.
Anastasia muttered, her eyes hazy, âWhy are you so late?â
Herman seemed in a hurry. He reached out his hand but seemed to be restraining something. His voice was low and a bit hparse. âAnastasia, I want you to have my baby.â
