Chapter 35
If she knew it would come to this, why did she do what she did back then?
Once upon a time, Cason made the firm decision to study abroad, throwing their relationship to the wind.
After he left, she sent him a breakup message. When she didnât get a response after a day, she blocked all his contacts.
From then on, they hadnât been in touch for five or six years.
Sheâs married now, and yet, heâs back.
Anastasia pondered for a moment before saying on the phone, âIâll be right there.â
She agreed to meet Cason, not with any ulterior motive, but just to formally say goodbye and clear the air.
Anastasia put on her shoes and walked out. At the entrance to her complex, Casonâs Maybach was parked at the curb.
Luxury cars have a natural allure for men. A Maybach parked at the curb had the security guard at the gate stealing a few glances.
When Anastasia passed by, the security guardâs eyes fell on her. Seeing her approach the Maybach, his look became somewhat contemptuous.
In his eyes, all women loved money, and all beauties belonged to the rich.
On seeing Anastasia, Cason immediately got out of the car, smiling. âAnastasia, youâre here. Letâs grab some afternoon tea, yeah?â
âNo need, I just had a latte.â Anastasiaâs expression was cold, she didnât get in the car. She said icily, âCason, please donât contact me again, I donât want my husband to get the wrong idea.â
âAnastasia, I know youâre still mad about me studying abroad. Iâd do anything to make it right.â Cason said, still smiling. âI can provide a better life for you
now.â
Right, back then, Casonâs mother disliked her because she came from a single-parent family and strongly opposed their relationship.
Maybe it was for this reason that Casonâs mother sent him overseas.
Anastasia didnât want to bring up the past. She said calmly, âCason, nobody waits forever. Weâre done. Iâll say it again, please donât interfere with my husband and my life, thanks.â
Anastasia knew she had to set clear boundaries with Cason.
Having said that, Anastasia turned to leave. Cason grabbed her arm, emotional, âAnastasia, heâs a poor man. What can he give you? Heâs just a junior employee, driving a cheap car worth a few tens of thousands, even the house he lives in is rented. He canât give you happiness.â
Anastasia scoffed, âSo in your eyes, happiness is measured by money, huh? Cason, does this make you feel good?â
âAnastasia Cason furrowed his brows. âYou guys donât have a house, with your husbandâs meager salary, youâll never afford a house in Riverdale. You once said you wanted a home. I bought a house in Southridge Estates. Iâm doing all this for youâ¦
âStop. Anastasia looked him in the eyes, âYou can say itâs for your parents, for your ambition, but donât say itâs for me. And donât ever come looking for me
again.â
Anastasia pushed Casonâs hand away. If she had any lingering feelings before, Casonâs actions now completely ruined any remaining fond memories.
She had waited for Cason, waited for many years, but as her heart gradually cooled, she started to let go.
âI heard about you dropping out of college Cason said, âIt was only when I visited your college professor yesterday that I truly understood why you quit school. It was for a man.â
The mention of dropping out of college made Anastasiaâs face turn sour, âCason, whatâs the point of bringing that up? My leaving school wasnât because of you, it wasâ¦
She thought Cason was talking about himself. Even though part of the reason for dropping out was indeed Cason, she wasnât willing to admit it now.
âI know, it was for another man.â
After Cason said this, Anastasia stared at him in surprise, âAnother man?â
