Chapter 380
Gianna pulled up a chair, taking a seat by the bedside. Compared to Joeyâs emotional upheaval, Gianna was much more composed, and significantly more detached.
She just watched him, her gaze as cold as ice. Then she laughed, a laugh-filled with scorn. âSeeing you in this state, itâs truly satisfying, Joey. Lying there, have you ever regretted cheating on me?â
âYou bitch! Iâm going to sue you! All this, is all your doing!â Joey was shaking with fury.
âHow did I do anything? You just had an unfortunate fall, thatâs all. Iâm your wife, the woman whoâs shared your bed for eight years. How could I harm you?â
Gianna chuckled coldly, rising to her feet. Her eyes were filled with revulsion, but her face bore a smile. âJoey, you didnât want a divorce. I thought about it and realized that weâre like two birds of a feather. We canât just split when things get tough. Now that youâre paralyzed, I should take care of you. After all, I am your wife.â
Hearing these words, Joey felt no warmth, only fear. He felt like a lamb ready for slaughter. âI donât need your care. I want a divorce!â Joey retorted.
âThatâs not going to happen,â Gianna whispered sinisterly in his ear. âI am a widow, not a divorcee. The title of divorcee carries such an ugly stigma, donât you agree? If I take care of you, Iâll be hailed as a virtuous wife. Isnât that better?â
âYouâre dreaming, Gianna!â Joey was so angry he could barely breathe. His hands were cast in plaster, and he couldnât move a muscle, let alone harm Gianna. âI want a divorce! I want you locked up!â
âIf you glare at me any longer, I might just gouge your eyes out,â Gianna threatened menacingly. âBehave, or Iâll make your life a living hell. The Salstrom family has got my back. Do you really think you can get me locked up?â
Joey was so furious his face turned chalk white. He tried to strike Gianna but only ended up hurting his hand, causing him to cry out in pain. In his rage, he didnât even notice the pain. He tried to grab Gianna, but only managed to clutch at her clothes.
Gianna forcefully removed his hand, causing a handkerchief to fall out of her bag. It was the handkerchief Herman had given her.
Joey noticed the embroidered âHâ on the handkerchief. His instincts as a man told him something was amiss. âYou conniving witch! Youâre having an affair with Herman, arenât you? You traitor! So thatâs why Hermanâs been protecting you!â
Gianna picked up the handkerchief, dusting it off with care. âJoey, how could you compare to Herman? Marrying you was the biggest mistake of my life,â she said coldly. âOnce youâre discharged, Iâll bring you home and take care of you as payment for years of betrayal.â
âIâd rather die than go with you, Gianna.â
âYou think you can walk away?â Gianna laughed. âYou canât even crawl, Joey. Oh, and just so you know, I sold our house. Your parents will have to move back to their old country home. Youâre not going to be begging under a bridge, are you?â
Joey was so angry his eyes nearly popped out of his head. âGianna, you wretch! How could you you sell the house!â
your
âI also took care of your stocks and bonds. And the money you gave to your mistress? Iâll get every penny back.â Gianna laughed. âItâs such a relief. All the anger Iâve felt these past few months is finally gone. If you decide to end it all, or if you die from sheer rage, even better. Itâll save me the trouble.
