Chapter 431
Julie moved swiftly, heading to the countryside the very night Grannie Anita arrived there.
Grannie Anita was seated in the garden of her countryside home, wiping tears from her
eyes,
and her two best friends were consoling her.
Crying and cursing, Grannie Anita exclaimed, âMy granddaughter-in-law is such a disgrace. Sheâs bewitched my grandson, Herman. You both know how obedient he used to be. Now Iâve been banished to the countryside. Isnât it all her doing?â
Her two friends, both in their late seventies, were well-known gossipmongers in the village, always in-the-know about everyoneâs business. For example, a daughter-in-law was arguing with her mother-in-law, or spending excessively on online shopping, or not having children after years of marriage, or a man was involved with the local widowâ¦
These petty issues were blown out of proportion, making the village a hotbed of gossip every day.
The village square was the gossip hub. As long as it wasnât raining, it was filled with the villageâs elderly, discussing the latest scandals
The two grannies consoled Grannie Anita, saying, âDonât let your anger get the best of you. You have to take care of your health, otherwise, youâre just letting your
granddaughter-in-law win. Weâve lived for so long. We wonât be manipulated by a young
girl.â
âIndeed, just stay here for a few days. Weâll help you come up with a solution. We canât let a young girl turn everything upside down.â
âYou said the child isnât your grandsonâs, right? We can just wait until the child is born and have a paternity test done.â
Grannie Anita retorted angrily, âHow can a bastard be born into the Salstrom family? If I die, I wouldnât be able to face our ancestors.â
Just as Grannie Anita finished, car lights shone into the yard. Soon, Julieâs voice echoed, âGrannie, Iâm here to see you.â Julie cheerfully called out from outside the yard, holding a bag of groceries.
Upon hearing the voice, Grannie Anita was both surprised and delighted. âJulie, why are you here so late?â
Julie replied with a smile, âGrannie, I came to see you. I heard you were sent back to the countryside and I know you must be upset. I wanted to come and comfort you.â
Grannie Anita apppeared so touched, and Julie had a cold smirk in her heart.
Grannie Anita led Julie into the house. Her friends left, and Julie decided to stay. Grannie Anita was becoming more and more fond of Julie.

Chapter 431
Grannie Anita held Julieâs hand and suddenly asked, âJulie, what do you think of Joseph?â
Julie instantly understood Grannie Anitaâs implication. A hint of cruelty flashed in her eyes, Julie feigned sadness and said, âGrannie, my relationship with Joseph was a misunderstanding. You know that I donât like him. I wanted to marry Herman. Donât you love me anymore? Are you not gonna help me?â
âBut you and Joseph are together, arenât you?â Grannie Anita said, âI love you. Will you be my granddaughter-in-law? Iâll make sure Joseph is acknowledged by his family. Youâll be a legitimate Salstrom granddaughter-in-law.â
Julieâs face turned pale. As expected, this old woman wanted to marry her off to Joseph. Julie sidestepped the topic, âGrannie, why did Herman send you here? Did Anastasia say something to him?â
âOf course, itâs all her doing. That Anastasia has been trying to drive a wedge between Herman and me. Sheâs trying to get me out of Riverdale.â Grannie Anita was getting angrier, âSheâs too young to fight with me.â
Julie casually mentioned, âAnastasia is five months pregnant, right? The baby is taking shape. I heard that Anastasiaâs health isnât good, so they will perform a C-section when she is seven months pregnant. If the child is a boy, heâll be the firstborn of the Salstrom family. Anastasia will be more powerful. Grannie, will you be able to return to the
Salstrom Manor?â
Julieâs instigation was fierce, pointing out Anastasiaâs delivery time, urging Grannie Anita to take action, and intensifying Grannie Anitaâs hatred for Anastasia.
