Chapter 9
Considering the recent ordeal where her mother threatened to take her own life because she was forcing her to go on blind dates, Anastasia was scared
out of her wits.
Upon reaching the hospital, Anastasia found out from the nurse station that her mom was on the third floor Without wasting any time, she dashed upstairs with Herman hot on her heels.
In the ward, her mom, Salma, just woke up. The doctor walked over with the medical report in hand. âNothing serious, just low blood sugar. She needs to rest and eat on time. Itâd be best to carry some candies on youâ
Salma couldnât believe what she was hearing. âI only have low blood sugar?â
A few months ago, she was diagnosed with cancer in this very hospital. After fainting, she thought she was done for.
The doctor confidently reassured her, âYou indeed only have low blood sugar. A bit of rest and you can be discharged.â
âBut doc, could you doubleâcheck to see if I have any other illnessesâ¦â
âMum,â Anastasia walked over, her eyes red and teary. âMum, are you okay? Why did you faint all of a sudden? Doc, whatâs wrong with my mom?â
The doctor replied, âYou must be a family member. The patient just has low blood sugar due to overexertion. As long as she rests and eats on time, itâs nothing serious.â
Anastasia breathed a sigh of relief upon hearing this. On her way here, she had feared for the worst.
Salma was somewhat confused, âDoctor, donât I have any other diseases? Three months ago, I was diagnosed with cancer in your hospital.â
Hearing the word âcancer, Anastasia turned pale and looked at the doctor.

The doctor said, âAccording to the test results, no other diseases were found. If youâre still worried, we can do a comprehensive check.â
Anastasia immediately agreed, âYes, letâs do that. Only a thorough check could put her mind at ease.
The doctor said, âAlright then, go make the payment.â
Shortly thereafter, the second test results came out, confirming that Salma only had low blood sugar and was cancerâfree.
The hospital found out that there had been a mixâup earlier. Salma had picked up the wrong report and mistakenly thought she had cancer. Upon hearing that she didnât have cancer, she was stunned for a few seconds before breaking down in tears in Anastasiaâs arms.
âAna, I wronged you. I thought I was dying, so I forced you to go on those blind dates. You even rushed into a marriage. If you arenât happy in the future, Iâll feel guiltyâ
Salma sobbed and said, âAna, how about you divorce him now? We can take our time to find someone you like, someone suitable.â
Anastasia awkwardly glanced at Herman standing nearby.
She had only been married for a week, and her mom was already suggesting she divorce Herman? Wouldnât that make Herman a divorcee?
Anastasia helplessly reminded her, âMom, calm down. There is someone else here!â
Salma then noticed that there was indeed another person in the room. âAna, whoâs this handsome young man?â
Anastasia forced a smile and introduced him, âMom, this is your sonâinâlaw, Herman.â
Salma stopped crying, and her eyes widened.
Herman greeted her warmly. âHello, Ms. Jewell.â
Salma was a bit flustered and stuttered, âSo, youâre Herman? Youâre really handsome. Good job, the matchmaking websiteâs recommendation was spot on. Youâre very handsome.â
Anastasia felt the awkwardness, and so did Salma.
The atmosphere was a bit weird. But there was a hint of amusement in Hermanâs eyes. This was the first time heâd met such an interesting motherâdaughter duo.
Herman said, âAnastasia, you help your mom pack up. Iâll go bring the car around. Now that everythingâs okay, letâs go home. Itâs more comfortable than the hospital.
There was no need for Salma to stay in the hospital.
Salma didnât like staying in the hospital, and she watched everything Herman did. She had been worried that Anastasia had chosen the wrong man, but now, it seemed that this man was not bad at all.
Through his actions, it was clear that Herman was a good man. He took the initiative to pay the bills and communicated carefully with the doctor before
the results were out.
