Albus ran his fingers through her hair as she slept on his chest; theyâd gotten Blandus so hammered the night before heâd been able to stay with Esma. He was going to have to leave soon but she was perfect against his skin and out of it. A smirk passed his lips, heâd missed her more than heâd thought in the past month since theyâd came back; so naturally heâd woken her up twice to satisfy them.
âGemæcca.â He whispered kissing her softly, âI need to go now.â
âAl, why?â she complained as I tried to slip away, her fingers grasping at him. âI donât want you to leave.â
âBut I have to love.â He purred, âPeople are starting to wake up, the floors are warm.â
âOne more time.â She smirked opening her eye to look at him, lust hazing over. âAl, please.â
Giving into temptation Al slipped back down and covered Esma completely, she stirred beneath him easily pushing him over the edge of sanity and into their shared passion and love.
âNow I really have to go.â Albus laughed slightly breathless as Esma grinned content to watch him. âYouâre a witch, you know that?â
âGet going.â She laughed grabbing his sword and fastening it around his waist, âIâll see you later, Iâm going to check on the drunkard.â
Albus grinned and slipped out of the back entrance and span around to the amphitheatre where Juan and Felix were sure to be, if not they would be shortly. The silence of the morning was slowly being broken by the chores of the day, children were screaming for their motherâs and mothers were screaming at their children.
Juan strutted into the amphitheatre and bowed to the imaginary crowds, shouting his own name in horse shouts. Albus watched amused and slightly concerned for his friendâs sanity as Felix came through the opposite entrance frowning.
âDid Daisy hit him too hard?â
âIâm not sure, I hope so.â Albus laughed, âThat isnât normal. What did her father say?â
âWhose father?â he asked with a smirk.
âHazelâs.â
âOh you mean my fiancéeâs?â he laughed before they hugged tightly.
âYouâll be very happy together.â Albus stated jealousy biting at his ankles, âIâm jealous.â
âIâm sorry Albus; I wish Esma could be yours too.â Felix smiled patting his shoulder as Juan finally came over to congratulate him also.
âDaisy thinks the babe will come within the next week.â He smiled and once more everyone laughed and congratulated him, as Albus smiled jealously on.
They set to work training and practising and by mid-afternoon were all but falling asleep by the river bank. Shadows fell over the men and two hands pulled at Albusâ hands, he opened an eye and saw Esma.
âWhat?â he asked and she shook her head.
âCome with me.â She whispered as Daisy and Hazel joined the other two men chattering away happily.
âEsma, whatâs wrong?â he asked, kissing her hand as she pulled him down a small alley and behind a few houses.
âNothingâs wrong Al.â she laughed jumping up and kissing him suddenly, âI didnât say anything because I wasnât sure but I have to tell you now . . . Iâm pregnant.â His heart stopped and he simply stared at her laughing face, âItâs yours Iâve not slept with Blandus for a while and then I thought I was so I did so heâd think it was his. But Albus itâs your baby.â
âAre you sure?â he whispered, grabbing her face as she laughed nodding, âYES!â
âAre you happy?â she laughed kissing his face all over as he held her in his arms, lifting her off the ground. âAlbus, are you?â
âIâm ecstatic; you my darling, my love have made me the happiest man alive.â He promised, âLet me show you just how ecstatic I am.â
âPlease do.â She laughed wrapping her legs around his waist as he grinned showering her with kisses.

Esma sat opposite Blandus that night as they ate in all but silence; things had changed since leaving Hadrianâs. Sure heâd been nicer to her but they werenât as easy; he wasnât as fun. She looked up at him and noticed he was frowning over at her.
âYouâre keeping something from me.â He stated, âWhat is it?â
âYou succeeded.â She stated quietly and he put his knife down on the table, âIâm pregnant.â
âAre you sure?â he asked and she nodded, âWell, brilliant.â
âAre you happy?â she asked as he stood up and enveloped her in a bone crushing hug, âOctavian?â
âVery.â He smiled, âFor one we donât have to do this again and Iâve always wanted a son to take in my footsteps.â
âWhat if itâs a girl?â she asked quietly and his face didnât change as he laughed.
âHe wonât be.â He pressed a kiss to her forehead. âIâm going to celebrate, donât wait up Esma.â
Panic swept through her chest, earlier when sheâd told Albus heâd been ecstatic, talking about what heâd teach him if it were a boy and who heâd protect her from if it were a girl. Yet Blandus simply told her he wonât accept a daughter; there was simply nothing she could do.
âEsma.â Juanâs voice laughed from the doorway, âIs Blandus around?â
âHeâs just gone to tell his partners heâs to have a son.â She whispered, instantly he frowned and stalked across the room to comfort her; having heard from Albus his excitement over a possible daughter. âWhat should I do if itâs not?â
âNothing Es, weâll see to it nothing will happen to your daughter.â He promised clasping her hands tightly in his, âYou trust us?â
âWith my life.â She whispered nodding.
âThen donât worry, Al wouldnât hurt his own child.â He stated, âWant me to send Al or Daisy?â
âPlease, daisy if you donât mind sparing her.â She whispered with a smile as he pinched her cheek.
âIâm on shift tonight anyway.â
âThank you Juan, youâre a really good friend.â She stated as he stood to leave.
âWeâve always said youâre like a sister Esma, now you just get to feel the full force of it.â
