Miyahâs POV
The car ride back to Zaireâs place was quieter than I expected. Ashley and Zoey sat in the back, their smug expressions betraying just how much theyâd enjoyed Kateâs failed dinner spectacle. Giovanni and Malik had gone back to their own places, but I knew theyâd be calling soon to get the full recap.
I glanced at Zaire, his jaw tight as he gripped the steering wheel. He hadnât said much since we left, but I knew he was replaying the night in his head.
âZaire,â I said softly, breaking the silence.
He glanced at me, his face softening just slightly. âYeah?â
âAre you okay?â
He sighed, his shoulders relaxing a little. âIâm good. Just pissed at my mum for pulling that stunt.â
âDonât let her get to you,â Ashley chimed in from the backseat. âMiyah handled her like a boss. You saw the way she shut her down.â
Zoey laughed, leaning forward. âFor real, though. I thought Kate was gonna choke on her wine when Miyah told her off.â
I couldnât help but laugh a little, even though I still felt a lingering tension in my chest. âI just said what needed to be said.â
âAnd you said it perfectly,â Zoey said, giving my shoulder a reassuring squeeze.
Zaire pulled into the driveway, cutting the engine as he turned to face me. âMiyah, Iâm proud of you,â he said, his voice low but sincere. âYou stood your ground, and you didnât let her intimidate you.â
âI had to,â I replied. âIf I donât stand up for myself now, sheâll keep testing me. Iâm not about to let her think she can walk all over me.â
âYou shouldnât have to,â Zaire said, his tone hardening. âAnd Iâm done letting her get away with it. Tonight was the last time.â

Ashleyâs POV
Watching Zaire stand up for Miyah was something I never thought Iâd see. Donât get me wrong, I knew he cared about her, but seeing him actually put his foot down with his mother? That was next-level.
As we stepped inside the house, I pulled Zoey aside. âDid you see Chloeâs face when Zaire said he was with Miyah?â
Zoey grinned. âPriceless. I almost felt bad for her. Almost.â
âShe really thought she had a chance,â I said, shaking my head. âKate set her up for failure.â
Zoey shrugged. âThatâs what happens when you try to mess with Miyah. People keep underestimating her, but sheâs stronger than they think.â
âFacts,â I said. âAnd now that Zaireâs made it clear where he stands, maybe Kate will back off.â
âDoubt it,â Zoey said with a smirk. âBut itâll be fun watching her try.â

Zaireâs POV
After Ashley and Zoey left, I pulled Miyah into the living room, sitting her down on the couch. She looked tired, but there was still a fire in her eyes that made me smile.
âYou sure youâre okay?â I asked, brushing a strand of hair out of her face.
âIâm fine,â she said, leaning into my touch. âHonestly, Iâm just glad itâs over.â
I nodded, pulling her closer. âI meant what I said, Miyah. If my mum keeps this up, Iâll cut her off. Youâre my priority, not her approval.â
âI know,â she said softly. âBut I donât want to come between you and your family, Zaire. I know how much they mean to you.â
âYouâre my family now,â I said, my voice firm. âAnd I wonât let anyone disrespect you. Not my mum, not Chloe, no one.â
Her eyes shimmered, and for a moment, she looked like she was going to cry. But instead, she smiled, leaning in to kiss me.
âI love you, Zaire,â she whispered against my lips.
âI love you too,â I replied, sealing the promise with another kiss.

Kateâs POV
Back at the mansion, I paced the floor of my bedroom, replaying the disaster that was dinner. Zaire had never spoken to me like that before, and it stung more than I wanted to admit.
Chloe sat on the edge of the bed, her arms crossed. âI donât know what you expected, Kate. Zaireâs clearly whipped by that... girl.â
âDonât call her that,â I snapped, surprising myself.
Chloe raised an eyebrow. âWhy not? Sheâs not one of us, Kate. She doesnât belong in this family.â
I sighed, sinking into the armchair by the window. âI know that. But Zaireâs stubborn. The more I push, the more he clings to her.â
âSo whatâs the plan?â Chloe asked, her tone impatient.
I looked at her, my mind racing. âWeâll let this settle for now. But donât worry. Miyah wonât last. Sheâs not built for this world, and eventually, sheâll realize it.â

Miyahâs POV
That night, as I lay in Zaireâs arms, I couldnât shake the feeling that this wasnât over. Kate wasnât the type to give up easily, and I knew sheâd come at me again.
But I wasnât afraid.
With Zaire by my side, I knew I could face whatever came our way.
