Anaiahâs POV âWe havenât been introduced, my name is Edward Chasia and Iâm the Kingâs cousin,â He informs me. I smile and shake his hand.
âArya didnât mention youâre coming,â I say, relieved. I go to the refrigerator and take out bananas and milk.
âI decided last minute to stay here instead of the castle so she didnât know I was coming, and I didnât know Iâll find you here,â
âYouâll be staying here?â I ask, and he nods.
âBut Iâm staying here and I canât go back now,â I say, âHello, roommate,â He says, gulping his drink and pouring another one. â Look, Queen Anaiah, Iâll be out of your way and youâll rarely see me,â
âI like peace and quiet for the days Iâll be here too and you canât tell the king Iâm here,â
âSo he doesnât know you are hereâ He almost sounds amused.
âNo,â
âBut isnât it dangerous? where is your protection?â
âI donât need it, trust me, I can defend myself really well,â I say and he nods. We stay in silence and I continue making a smoothie. I pour it into a glass and get a straw from the drawer and go upstairs to my room. Once I finish drinking my smoothie, I refresh and lie in bed, expecting a call from my mate as usual but he doesnât call me so I pick up the phone and call, it takes him a long to answer and when he does, he sounds relieved.
âMy love,â
âHey, how is it going,â I ask, he yawns before responding.
âGood, the elders have gone back today, donât worry, I told them that you are working with one of the new packs but we have new guests,â He says and I already have an idea of whom, âOh who?â
âMy cousins are visiting on official business, I will introduce you to them when you come,â He says. I feel slightly guilty for not telling him that Iâve met one of them.
âI didnât know you had family out of the region,â
âYes we do, Edwardâs mother and mine were siblings,â He explains.
âOh okay,â We talk a while longer about the Chasia siblings and Iâm surprised that I havenât heard of them, according to Leon, their pack is domineering and the largest in the western territories. They have quite a reputation.
I wake up to the sounds of dishes in the kitchen, I wear my sweatpants and shirt before going downstairs to the kitchen where I find Alpha Edward, making breakfast.
âGood morning, Luna Anaiah,â He grits in a baritone voice of his.
âGood morning,â I sit on the island and watch him quickly finish making breakfast, he pushes a plate for me and sits next to me, eating. After breakfast he excuses himself to go somewhere and I only see him again in the evening.
I was making supper when he entered, he went upstairs and minutes later came down to eat. We donât exchange much and Itâs alright, Edward seems like a man whoâs missing a soul and is desperately trying to find it. When Iâm done, I put the plates away and he goes outside, I follow suit and find his watching the moon. I sit next to him.
âAre you okay?â
âNo,â He says softly, I wasnât expecting him to answer that question.
âWhatâs wrong?â
âMy mate ran away from me and Iâve been searching for her since,â He says, not taking his eyes off the full moon. â It⦠hurts,â He croaks and I feel for him. I wonder what went on between the two but I pray the goddessâ wishes be done.
âWould you like a beer?â I ask, he looks at me and nods.
âYes, thank you, Queen Anaiah,â
âCall me Ana, Alpha Edward,â I smile.
âEdward,â He says and I nod, getting up to get two beers.
Edward and I developed a routine in the three days we stayed together, heâd make breakfast and I made dinner, and we ate together every evening. We are sitting at the dining table when I ask him;.
âAre you certain Caliana is here?â
âI recently located the driver who took her to the airport and he said she mentioned coming to the Northern part for a new start,â He says, eating his steak.
âI hope it works out for both of you,â
âThanks,â
âAnd by the way, Iâm going back to the castle tomorrow,â
âYour retreat is over? Thatâs good, finally, my cousin will stop complaining,â
Edward has kept true to his word about not telling Leon Iâm here. I finish my food but before I can go to the bedroom, we hear loud growls and the banging of the door, someone is trying to forcefully enter and before he can fathom anything, smoke engulfed my nostrils.
âFuck, we are under attack,â Edwards mutters.
Smoke was filling the room fast and the menacing growls outside were getting louder, Edward ran to the sink and dipped a kitchen cloth in water, and rushed to give me.
âUse this to cover your nose,â I take it and do as he says, he is gone before I can tell him I can get us out of here.
He comes back in less than a second and asksâ We are locked in and rogues are standing on any possible exit,â He says, he isnât very panicked, Iâd say he is only worried about me.
âI can get us out of here,â I say confidently and he gives me a look â I have special abilities,â I say and he nods slowly, not believing me. I shake my head and throw the cloth to the floor. I extend my hand and rotate, trying to open a portal to the castle but itâs futile.
âI think youâve inhaled too much smoke,â He says in a mocking tone and Iâm rebuffed by that.
âI do have powers but something is blocking them!â
