Twelve

The Patient2,047 words~11 min read

King looked at me in shock and confusion, stepping back a little looking me up and down. Rob snapped us out of it by chuckling in the background.

"What did you think it would all just come back at once? It'll come back through triggers, don't worry."

King and I both breathed a sigh of relief. I really hope this works. My whole life I've been dying to know what happened in all of those years. To remember my parents.

"How did you know I was your mate? I mean, you must have known to send Rob out to protect me."

He smiles, "I met you a couple days before you left. We were young but I somehow knew who you were. My father sent Rob to look after you until we were old enough to be together."

I nodded along as I noticed a shadow appearing in the sky getting closer. My eyes widened as I realized it was coming at us.

"Shit, do you guys see that?" I asked.

They both looked up with a smile. King stepped away from me with a huge smile.

He opened his arms and laughed. "Beast!" He exclaimed.

"They are really literal with their names aren't they?" I asked rob who chuckled along, nodding his head in agreement.

Beast landed right in front of King, bowing to him a little bit before sitting dutifully.

"Beast, I'd like to introduce you to Opal." He said in his deep silky voice.

Beast looked up and locked eyes with me. For some reason I didn't even feel the slightest bit scared, on the contrary I felt very safe and happy.

Beast stood to his feet and slowly stalked over to me, head low and threatening as he bared his teeth.

"Beast! No!" King yelled, seeming to get a little frantic.

The humongous dragon just flicked him with his tail, sending him flying a few meters, knocking the wind out of him but not hurting him.

King leapt back to his feet but just got flicked away again as Beast got closer.

"STOP! WHAT ARE YOU DOING?" King was now yelling, looking panicked as he was only about a foot away from my face. I smiled as Beast stopped bearing his teeth to sniff me. Once he did he curled around me, turning to the other two men and snarled.

They both stood back completely taken aback from what just happened. I laughed and stroked his scales a little as he started to put gently, soothing me just like King did in the hospital any time he would hold me.

Rob burst into a full on laughter as King just looked at him, dumbfounded but also clearly relieved.

In that moment a rush of memories overtook me, flashing behind my eyes, revealing themselves again.

Dragons have always loved and been protective over me. When I was a kid I met a couple and they had almost the exact same reaction. My mother was terrified, she thought we were both going to die and pulled us in the other direction but I escaped her hold. I ran right towards the dragons and hugged their legs. They were wild, untamed, but they would listen to me always, no matter what.

My mother. I remember her. She was a fae. She was beautiful and strong. I don't remember everything but I remember her. We lived together, just her and I in the forests. But why?

As soon as the realization that I am part far dawned on me I felt my body fill with power, with magic. I glowed a little and felt myself change. My teeth became sharper, my hair became longer and more shiny and beautiful. My ears turned to a point and my eyes actually grew larger and brighter. Soon enough I was standing in front of them, bright blue eyes shinning at two shocked men.

I felt a little of my innocence return to me. Fae are known to be sweet, they will do whatever they can to make you happy. The only problem is the tend to be a little naive and, well, pushovers. They are generally fair and peaceful, rarely getting into any kind of wars, always staying neutral, helping people where they can without getting too involved.

Don't let this fool you though, fae are very strong and powerful, they have magic like witches naturally, not needing to say words to cast a spell, not that they ever really use this for bad. They are also gifted with unatural beauty and a glow of happiness and life.

I smiled widely at them, feeling more right than I ever thought possible. I felt full even though I never knew I was empty. I felt amazing.

They both stared back at me but they didn't look happy at all. Rob was muttering curses under his breath while King stood silent, thoughts obviously running through their minds. Their response doesn't really make a lot of sense, everyone loves fae.

"You're fae?" Rob asked. I nodded my head, a large smile still on my face as I stroked the purring dragon.

"Too much information at once." Rob complained, massaging his temples.

He's gotten too much information?!?! Really?!?! I just learnt that my entire life is a lie and everything I thought I knew was wrong! But he's complaining about too much information right now?!!!

"That explains your lack of intimidation." King finally spoke up.

I glared at him a little but it just seemed to make him smile. I mean, I'm happy I'm lifting his mood but come on!!

"Hop on Beast, he'll fly us home."

"Home?" I asked, beginning to scale the dragon, hanging onto the giant spikes down his legs and up his back, somehow managing to fling myself onto the giant creature.

"The castle." King responded as if it were the most obvious thing in the world. Which it kind of was. He's a prince and I'm his mate, I really should have figured that out.

He hopped on right behind me, Rob right behind him.

Before I could ask more questions Beast launched himself into the air, momentarily shutting me up as I took in the amazing sights.

I squealed, bouncing a little in my seat, my smile giant on my face. "ARE YOU GUYS SEEING THIS?!"

The two man chuckled, nodding at my excitement. Big bores, why aren't they joining in? Are they seeing this?! I don't care how many times I fly, I am completely sure that I'll be equally excited every time! I mean, the feeling of the wind! We can see the world.

I immediately recognized the dragon kingdom. It was fairly obvious when a big dark castle came into view that had dragons flying around it, guarding.

I squealed again. "Do you see the castle? Its beautiful! Although, it could use a little bit of a brighter touch, make it look a little less death and destruction. Don't worry, I'll help out, make your kingdom beautiful again!"

"Since when is she so chatty?" I heard Rob mutter to King, probably thinking I couldn't hear.

I turned around to face him with a scowl. "I don't know, maybe since I finally stopped having the life sucked out of me that was making me a boring plain person with no personality! This is who I am!" I exclaimed.

"Do you think she's going to cry? I heard fae cry a lot." He muttered even softer when I turned back around but I ignored him this time because of how close we were getting to the castle.

It really was beautiful, in a dark dungeons and death kind of way...

Lets just say I've got my work cut out for me making this place alive again. Dragon folk aren't exactly known for their beauty and delicateness. Both the men and women are very strong and a little burly. They're tough and always very wary, not easily trusting.

They were warriors, they tended to be little cold and closed off but they're very impressive and not an enemy you'd ever want to have.

Beast flew us down onto the large landing pad on top of the castle. The view was still so spectacular, I could even see a volcano just off in the distance!

As soon as we landed I leaped off of Beast, easily landing on my feet in a graceful motion. I gave Beast a quick thank you pat before turning back to Rob and King, waiting for them. They both skillfully climbed down his legs, probably having done it a million times before.

Dragon tamers weren't necessary the most graceful beings, but King seemed to hold a certain amount of grace that always kept me watching him. I was so happy he's my mate. I couldn't imagine anyone better. He's easily the most attractive man I've ever seen and he always seems to bring a smile to my face somehow.

I may not know him very well, having barely even heard him speak, but I already feel like we've formed a sort of bond and I can't wait to get to know him properly now. The fact that I could like him so much just off his actions and not words proves we really are meant to be.

I sighed happily as he approached me. When he got close enough I tried reaching out for his hand but he pulled away a little.

"Not yet, flower." He whispered softly into my ear. I was extremely confused and a little upset I couldn't hold his hand but him calling me flower seemed to make up for all of that easily. It was odd seeing such a large, strong man saying something so soft.

His whole demeanor changed as we entered the castle, he became a little stiff and much more intense. I noticed most of the men staring at me which was no surprise. I am a fae after all, my looks really call to people. King seemed to hate this and I just wanted to reach out to him and comfort him but I knew if he didn't want me holding his hand he probably didn't want that either.

I smiled back at everyone that stared at me but as soon as they caught King's death stare they quickly averted their eyes, looking to the ground.

King led me down a few confusing corridors, all dark stone lined with gold. It was beautiful and no doubt pricey but a little dark. Just a little more sunlight, maybe some plants and flowers and this place would be magical.

Dragon people were known for their affinity to treasure. They tend to be a little greedy and strong-willed too. They love their gold or jewels but they never share nor give anything for free. I can remember when I was last in this realm the dragon tamers were the most wealthy in the lands, I wouldn't be surprised if that were still the case.

Finally we arrived at a large beautiful golden door with small red jewels lining the sides.

King opened the door and I followed him inside. We were in a gorgeous, humungous room. there was a large beautiful living room, all black and gold, of course, and a bedroom and bathroom to the other side.

Everything was beautiful and clearly the highest quality possible. It was extremely luxurious and beautiful.

I smiled largely as I wandered around, telling King all about how beautiful it was and how much I loved it. I also told him that a little bit of light and beautiful plants would make it even more perfect but he seems to like it just the way it is.

It was obvious that this was just one of their guest rooms. Their nicer ones no doubt but it barely looked lived in and I knew that King's room would be even more unbelievably luxurious. The only thing is that I don't understand why he would bring me to a guest room. We're mates, its completely natural for mates to start sharing a room and a bed the first time they meet each other, but I've known King for a while now, we've even slept in the same bed together...

Something isn't adding up.
