Fifteen

Before Rob could stop me I was running off towards the dragons.

I could hear him muttering curse words under his breath but I was very fast. I was smaller but had long legs and was very agile. Rob was very built and intimidating but he wasn't so fast. He managed to keep up okay but couldn't quite catch me and I could tell he was tiring out quickly.

I giggled as I easily leaped over a couple logs that were in my way.

I heard Rob trip over them, face planting before throwing himself back onto his feet to chase me. I just laughed as I looked back to see his red, muddy face that looked a little frantic.

He saw that beast like me, I don't get why he's so worried.

Once I got close he was getting very close to catching me. He was definitely much taller and using this to his advantage. At this point there were a couple dragons flying overhead looking at us curiously.

I noticed a beautiful white dragon that practically sparkled in the sun beginning to get very close. She flew down to the ground right towards me. While most people would be very scared I used this to my advantage. Somehow she understood me and flew right over my head.

Just as she did she picked me up with her talon then flew us high into the sky. I laughed to myself, screaming a little as we flew high above the ground.

I climbed out of the dragon's hold and managed to leap up onto her leg and onto her back while we circled overhead.

I laughed so hard at Rob's shocked, worried, frantic, angry and annoyed face as he watched me soar around.

I lifted my hands in the air and hollered in excitement.

"Hey girl, fly us up into the sky will you? I want to see all the lands, OO maybe you could give me a tour!" I exclaimed.

Somehow the dragon understood me. Usually they're like dogs, they can be taught certain words but they don't know english otherwise. I just shook it off and let her give me a tour, watching Rob get smaller and smaller until he was completely out of view.

We flew around the entire castle. It was beautiful in its darkness. Just a little lightening up and it'd be spectacular.

"You're amazing, you're officially my favorite dragon." I told her as she headed out towards the forest.

The dragon huffed in approval.

She brought me all over the kingdom. We flew over different villages and I made a little map in my mind, making mental notes of things that I liked or needed to visit. I also made mental notes of things that I didn't like, things I could try and help with or try and change.

She brought me to beautiful waterfall and we followed a stream for a little.

As the sun began to set we decided to head back to the castle. My butt was starting to get a little sore and I'm sure she was hungry. Dragons could actually fly for days on end without getting tired but they did need to eat quite a bit.

She flew near trees and I would run my hands through the leaves and branches, flowers and fruits spouting wherever I touched.

When we finally were back at the castle grounds we landed back in the training grounds.

I gave her a big hug goodbye before leaping off her back gracefully. I waved as she flew away towards the dragon barns she showed me earlier. When I turned around I saw an angry King and I nervous Rob storming towards me.

Oops?

"King!" I exclaimed, ignoring his foul mood. This just seemed to make him more mad. hmm.

"WHAT THE FUCKING HELL WAS THAT?!"

"I-"

"YOU WHAT?! THOUGHT IT WAS A GOOD IDEA TO HYJACK A DRAGON THAT HAD NOT ACTUALLY HAD ANY TRAINING AT ALL YET, WAS BASICALLY WILD AND THEN DISAPPEAR ON IT FOR HOURS?!"

"Her." I corrected him which was definitely the wrong thing to do. His face turned red and I just smiled at him sheepishly.

I would apologize but I honestly wasn't even a little sorry. I finally had fun today. This should teach them not to lock me up! They also need to stop underestimating me. I can certainly take care of myself, I'm a full grown woman for gods sakes! I've lived on my own and I'm still perfectly fine. Damn.

He silently grabbed my wrist a little too tight. I tried to wiggle out of his grasp but he just held on tighter. I flinched a little but followed him. I knew right now was not the time to provoke him.

Rob noticed my discomfort and gave me an apologetic look but he knew he couldn't do anything. It would just make King even angrier than he already was which would be very counterproductive.

"I'm sorry, King" I said, trying to make him feel better. It wasn't a lie. I was sorry he was mad, but he's going to have to get used to it because this is who I am and I know in my heart I'm only going to get worse from here.

He just ignored me and dragged me all the way back to my room. He pushed me in there and quickly closed the door behind him. Leaving me in here. All alone.

I screamed a little in frustration and the glass in the windows shattered, blowing out completely. That snapped me out of my anger a little.

What the heck was that? Fae of the earth cannot do that, only wind fae.

Oh my! Maybe I'm one of the few fae that can control more than one element. I experimented, extending my hands towards the window and let the wind flow through me.

Sure enough the breeze escaped my hands, blowing the curtains. I giggled in excitement. This definitely brought on a whole new world of possibilities.

The rest of the night I experimented and attempted to master my powers as best as I could. Since I was older it didn't take nearly as long as it normally would. It felt familiar to me.

When I blew some wind and accidentally knocked the couch over a saw a bright light and was swarmed with a new wave of memories.

I remembered my mother teaching me to use the wind, that was her specialty.

If I get enough of these memories back I should be able to track her down, to find her again and reunite. I'm feeling a little impatient now that new memories came back. She was feeling more and more familiar and I was beginning to miss her, notice her lack of presence in my life, realize what I've been missing.

After a long time the room was slightly trashed and I went to sleep on the bed that didn't have any sheets left. I just grabbed my pillow and the blanket and snuggled in happily. Thankfully I did enough that day to fall into a deep dream filled with the spectacular views, memories of my mother.

The weird thing is I didn't have a single dream about King...

I woke up to a knock on the door and someone gasping. The server was back and looking around the destroyed room with wide eyes.

"Mateo!" I exclaimed, leaping off the bed and towards him.

"A-Are you okay?" He asked looking a little nervous, "Did someone try and hurt you?"

I giggled shaking my head at him and immediately relaxed.

"I was just playing with the wind element and got a little carried away. How has your day been? How many days a week do you work? This is already two mornings in a row, do I get to see you every day?"

I shot out all the questions and he just stared back at me overwhelmed.

I somehow convinced him to sit with me while I ate my breakfast before going back to work.

"H-hey Opal, can I ask you something?"

I smiled, happy he was finally speaking up and treating me a little more like a friend.

"Are the rumors true? Did you leap on an untrained dragon and get taken away? I heard it snatched you right off the ground and flew away with you and then no one saw you for hours."

"Her." I corrected him, feeling weirdly protective over her, "And I guess that's true, although I asked her to pick me up and then convinced her to give me a tour of the kingdom, that's why I was gone for hours."

His eyes were wide in excitement.

"Wow! I've always wanted to ride a dragon, I'm training in dragon college right now but its more complicated than you would think. I just do this job on the side to support my mom but I want to become a dragon trainer and maybe even a warrior."

I was so happy he was finally opening up. I really liked him he was adorable.

I kept him for as long as I could before he had to go back off to work and I was alone again.

I was going to give them 2 hours, if no one came in I was leaving through the window. They'll have to learn not to lock me up. I'm not some domestic animal that will just wait around for them all day to return in this little room to maybe get a walk if I was good. Heck no. And lets be real, if they only walked me when I was good I'd never get walked.

Honestly after yesterday its going to get harder to convince Rob to take me out but I have my favor if I need it. While waiting I was practicing my handstands which, I have to say, I'm getting very good at while brainstorming ways to find out what King is keeping from me.

It was going to be difficult to figure out, I could tell that everyone was on strict instructions not to tell me anything about it. I'll have to find a way around it.

Just as I was about hit my two hour mark and leave through the window the door opened revealing King.

I guess my adventures will have to be put off a little longer...
