Neera was initially taken aback, but then she remembered that she hadnât had the chance to tell her aunt about it yet.
Confused, she asked, âAunt Adriana, I forgot to tell you, so how did you know?â
âYou silly girl. How could you forget to mention such a big event as getting your marriage certificate?
Now, the whole of Phison is buzzing with the news. I havenât been out for two days and only found out this morning when I was browsing the news online. Your photos with Jean getting the certificate have been posted online, and now everyone is talking about it,â Adriana answered.
Neera looked around in a daze, momentarily at a loss for words. âThatâs a bit wild,â she thought to herself.
Adriana sighed on the other end. âTo think, at such a crucial moment, you actually forgot to tell me. As your aunt, Iâm a little heartbroken.â
Neera was utterly embarrassed and quickly tried to soothe her. âAunt Adriana, I didnât do it on purpose, Iâm sorry⦠I just⦠forgot. Actually, we made this decision quite abruptlyâ¦â
In truth, Adriana wasnât really upset. She just wished to witness such an important moment in her nieceâs life.
Then, she realized that, no matter how important getting married and obtaining a marriage certificate was, it was still best for the couple to be alone.
Hence, she changed her mind and said, âAll right, no need to apologize. Iâm just⦠just very happy for you two.â
Neera said, âAunt Adrianaâ¦â
âFrom now on, youâre not alone. You have a home of your own, a person to rely on and share your life with. I have no more worries. As long as you live your days well, everything will be fine.â Adriana spoke with a smile. âItâs clear to everyone in the world that Jean truly loves you. Knowing that he will be with you for the rest of your life, I feel at ease.â
Neera sniffed, feeling touched yet with a tinge of slight sadness. âAunt Adriana, the way youâre talking, itâs as if we wonât keep in touch anymore. Itâs not just him, but also you who will accompany me for the rest of my life. You must always be with me.â
âWhat are you talking about, silly girl? Iâm more than a decade older than you. How long can I accompany you-â
âAunt Adriana!â
âAll right, all right. On such a joyful day, itâs my fault for bringing this up. Letâs not talk about it anymore.
You should spend time with Jean now, okay?â
Neera glanced at the man in front of her and responded, âMhm.â
âGive him the phone. I have some things to say to him.â
âUmâ¦â Neera touched her nose, handing her phone to Jean. âHere, Aunt Adriana wants to talk to you.â
With a slight raise of his eyebrows, Jean took the phone and walked aside to answer the call.
No one knew what the two of them had discussed. A few minutes later, Jean ended the call and returned to Neeraâs side.
âWhat did Aunt Adriana tell you?â Neera asked curiously.
you want to know?â Jean teased her.
Neera blinked. âOf course, I want to know.â
Jean suddenly laughed profoundly, leaned into her ear, and whispered, âCall me âDearâ for me to hear.â
His voice, already deep, became even more alluring and provocative as he deliberately suppressed it.
His warm breath sprayed on Neeraâs ear, adding an extra layer of ambiguity.
Neeraâs face suddenly turned red, and she glared at him irritably. âWhat⦠What are you doing?â
Jean spoke confidently. âWeâve got the certificate now. Weâre legally married. Itâs not too much to call me âDearâ, is it?â

âCome on. Do it for me, wonât you?â Jean continued to tempt her.
Neera felt a bit annoyed, thinking that he was deliberately teasing her, but mostly, she was just shy.
Parting her lips, she murmured in a voice only the two of them could hear, âD-Dear.â
A wave of emotion swept over Jeanâs heart. The joy in his eyes and brows was impossible to hide, yet he pretended not to hear, leaning in a bit closer with his ear. âWhat? I didnât catch that. You were speaking too softly.â
Neera gave him a glance, seeing right through him. âDonât play innocent with me. You canât feign innocence after gaining an advantage.â
Jean laughed, his laughter deep and rich like a fine liquor, incredibly pleasing to the ear.
He quickly pecked the petite womanâs face, his voice warm as he said, âAll right, my dear.â
With a sudden jolt, Neera felt as if she was about to explode, her face burning with astonishing heat.
She pursed her lips tightly, feeling both embarrassed and sweetly delighted.
The children had been watching the two of them all along, and at that moment, they couldnât help but break into a silly grin.
âHehe, Daddyâs sneaking a kiss with Mommy, and we caught them!â
âTsk, tsk. No shame, no shame!â
After being teased like that, she felt even more embarrassed. She pretended to glare at them fiercely.
âWhat nonsense are you spouting? Youâre just a child.â
Sammy didnât like hearing that. He puffed up his small chest with righteous indignation. âWe understand everything. Weâre not little kids anymore.â
Neera was stumped and didnât speak.
Jean chuckled, flicking the boyâs little forehead. âNo bullying your mommy.â
âHmmâ¦â Sammy rubbed his forehead, finally settling down.
