After learning about the situation of her grandparents in Essley, Neera felt relieved and stood up to take her leave.
Edward stopped her. âLeaving so soon? How about we have dinner together tonight? Youâre finally back.â
Neera grinned. âNot tonight as I need to go back to the hospital. When Dad is discharged, Iâll treat you.â
âAlright then.â Edward waved his hand dismissively. âTruly, a daughter getting married is like water poured out. Your mind is all on that boy, Jean.â
âThatâs not it.â Neera walked away awkwardly.
Back at the hospital, only Wrenn and Frederic were in the ward.
Neera greeted them. She looked around and asked, âWhere are Jean and the children?â
Wrenn smiled gently. âThereâs some work at the company, so Jean went over in the afternoon. At that time, Frederic was sleeping, and the kids went with him to avoid disturbing Frederic.â
âOkay.â Neera nodded, taking the initiative to ask, âWhat would you like to eat? Iâll go buy something as itâs too late to go back and cook now.â
âNo need. Sit down. Iâve already sent someone to prepare. It should be here soon,â Wrenn replied.
Neera nodded and asked how Frederic was feeling.
His recovery was impressive as his complexion had visibly improved, and his voice regained its usual vigor.
Neera took another look at his medical report for the day, confirming that all his health indicators were stable. This put her mind at ease.
At this point, Wrenn patted the couch. âNeera, come and sit. Jeanâs father and I want to discuss something with you.â
Neera was puzzled. âWhat is it?â
Wrenn and Frederic exchanged a look and smiled.
Frederic spoke earnestly. âItâs about your and Jeanâs wedding. You see, youâve already registered your marriage. Even though both of you arenât too concerned about these things, marriage is a significant event in life. It might only happen once. The wedding is crucial, and we think it should be grand.
However, we donât know what you think. We want to discuss it with you today since we have some time.â
Neeraâs eyebrows twitched slightly. She remained silent for a moment before saying, âDad, you havenât fully recovered yet. Letâs postpone this discussion until youâre in better shape. Thereâs no hurry.â
She wasnât in a rush, but Wrenn and Frederic were eager and anxious.
Their sonâs wedding was naturally a top priority for them, especially considering the improved relationship between Neera and the elderly couple.
They wanted to take advantage of the situation and plan carefully.
Frederic sat up, energetic and lively. âAh, Iâm already in good shape. I only stayed here a bit longer to reassure you. Donât worry about me. Now, your wedding is the most important thing.â

Wrenn chimed in cheerfully, âYes, if you have any ideas, let us know. You and Jean are usually busy and have no time. I can help with the preparationsâ¦â
Before she could finish, Jean walked in, interrupting her. âMom, we already have ideas for our wedding.
No need to bother.
Wrenn looked confused. âIdeas? Why didnât you tell us?â
Jean shot a gentle look at Neera and answered, âWe donât plan to have the wedding here, and I will personally organize it.â
Upon hearing this, Wrenn felt regretful.
âOh, I see. I had so many ideas. I wanted to discuss them with youâ¦â she murmured in disappointment but still respected their opinions.
âOkay then, since both of you have made up your minds, letâs proceed according to your wishes. After all, you two are the stars of the wedding.â
Curious, Frederic asked, âIf youâre not planning to hold your wedding locally, where do you plan to have it? Have you decided?â
Jean nodded and replied honestly, âYes, weâve decided. During our time abroad, I found a small island and bought it. Iâve also made arrangements. Weâll go back later to finalize the preparations.â
Fredericâs expression suddenly changed, and his eyes took on a meaningful look.
âYou rascal! Youâve made up your mind without even telling us. Your mother and I have been racking our brains, worrying that you wouldnât be satisfied.â
Listening to his complaints, Wrenn shot him a disgruntled look. âThatâs enough. Stop your pointless chatter. How come you talk more than me now? As long as the children are happy, thatâs all that matters. Nothing is more important than their happiness.â
Frederic blinked and raised his hands. âLook at me now. In this family, I have no status anymore.â
Jeanâs lips curled up, a faint smile appearing in his eyes.
He glanced at Neera, and as the sunset spilled into the room, the warm orange light outlined her beautiful face even more delicately, making hearts flutter.
Sensing his gaze, Neera met his eyes and smiled in return.
