This attendance is different from the one in secondary school days. The difference is that you do not have a class teacher and you do not have to answer present or absent to anyone.
What you have to do here is to attend lectures and your class representative passes a sheet of paper where you write down your name and matric number and sometimes with your signature.
I see no use in taking attendance because attending lecture is a matter of choice. O understand that the attendance makes some students make an effort to attend that class but with no interest.
I don't mind the taking of attendance randomly but it can be manipulated no matter how you do it. No matter how smart you turn out to be only if you take it one after the other. Some students can impersonate another.
Lecturers should just lecture and go. The issue of attendance causes chaos sometimes.
I understand that it is one of the rules of some schools that less than 75â attendance disqualifies you from writing an examination. If only it is true.
Just try to attend all your lectures and sign your attendance. Just do you and allow the lecturer choose his/her path.
But I feel and think attendance should be cancelled especially with the enormous number of students in a particular class. Some students are more than 300 and you expect attendance to be passed round.
