He nodded and waited for my following words.
I pressed my lips, âDennis and you are best friends and he needs such a friendship. I donât want to see you break up.â
I paused and continued, âyou can claim Clarrie as your daughter after she is eighteen years old. And it will be up to her whether to resume the relationship with you. And before that, you can see her anytime. By anytime, I mean literally. Ans she can go back to the Bennet family for several days if she can be taken good care of.â
He didnât expect it and somewhat didnât believe it, âAre you serious?â
I nodded, âI have made up this decision, not for you but for Dennis. Because I donât want to ruin his friendship. I hope you can still be good friends.â
He was surprised and pause for quite a while before he finally said, âThank you, Clara.â
Men talked much less than women.
I lowered my head, âYou donât need to thank me. Although I donât know exactly how much you love Clarrie I can feel you care about her. And Diana would be happy with it too.â
I said what needed to be said.
He said, âI want to take her to H Town. I am not taking her to meet her family but I promised Diana that I would take Clarrie there if possible.â
I frowned, âYou can if not too long.â
âIt is not long. Three days.â
âOkay.â
Yeah, I couldnât keep Clarrie to myself forever. She would grow up and have her own life.
Mario left and I went back into the bedroom of Clarrieâs.
After Follyâs wedding, I suddenly became a celebrity in this city.
Maybe Folly did it. Or maybe Link did it.
I received a call from Folly when I was in Clarrieâs room and she was sleeping.
I left the room and went into the sitting room.
She said, âI found that box. It was in Lunaâs hands and she said she would give it to you. I will post it to you later.â
I said, âThank you so much, Folly.â
She replied, âyou donât need to say that stuff to me.â
And she went on, âI wonder if I should tell you something.â
âWhat?â
She paused and continued, âAt my wedding ceremony, Dennis and Hank fought. They talked and Dennis seemed angry. And they fought. Zack told me that.â
I thought of his strange deeds of Dennis. He drank unusually much.
âClara, are you listening?â
âYes, ah, where do you take your honeymoon?â
âI talked with Zack and we decided on the Maldives. It has a clement climate.â
I heard a sound from Clarrieâs bedroom and said to folly, âHave a good time and Clarrie needs me now.â
She said bye and hung up.
Clarrie woke up and saw me, âMom, I am thirsty.â
I gave her water to drink and I touched her forehead.
The fever was gone.
And I thought of what Folly had just said to me.
âMom.â Clarrie saw me lost in my thought and cried.
I took the glass.
I tucked the quilt for her and asked, âYou want to sleep?â
She shook her head, âI donât want to sleep. Mario said I could get off the bed, right?â
I smiled, âyes.â
She got off bed though she still looked tired.
I looked outside and it stopped snowing.
What did exactly Hank talk to Dennis about?
Dennis was not easily irritated.
He was very calm and had his emotions under control.
An hour later, Jane called me, âClara, letâs talk.â
She sounded in a hurry.
âCan you go outdoors?â
I looked at Clarrie on the sofa; she was falling into sleep.
âI cannot.â
She said, âDennis bought most of the shares of Hankâs company and united others to clamp down on Hank. Why must he do such a thing?â
I didnât know much about the stock market but I felt vague that things were serious.
âI donât know about this thing. Maybe you could ask what Hank said to Dennis at Follyâs wedding.â Women should not interfere with menâs wars.
She sighed, âClara, Dennis has HY and wonât be defeated. But Hank is different and his JD cannot compete against HY. Please beg Dennis to let Hank off.â
I was somewhat irritated, âHank told you to say these to me?â
She was angry too, âYou are angry?â
âYes.â

âClara, Hank is my fiancé and the father of my child. I must do something for him. I have to support him and help him. Itâs okay if you are unhappy with me but I do this for Hank.â
âDennis is my husband and you forgot that?â I sighed.
âJane, I have someone to support too. We are the same.â
