We sat in the lounge before I got up, "How about I grab coffee before we start?" I asked and Caden squeezed my hand slightly before he smiled.
"Thank you Luna."
"Blake."
Paul nodded and I went to the kitchen. I started a pot, Cade should we talk to Daniel and Benji too?
God Bee, I didn't even think about it-
Don't blame yourself. We're a team.
That would be great Bee, Paul said we can wait.
I'll call Benji.
I'll talk to Dan. Thank you Bee.
Don't thank me Caden. We both have a lot on our plates. I love you.
I love you too. I knew he was smiling by his tone.
I picked up my phone as I grabbed three glasses. I dialled Benji's number and waited as it rang. He picked up on the third ring.
"Hello."
"Hi Benji it's Blake."
"I'd hope so. I don't let anyone else call me that Blakey."
I laughed, normalcy in a tense time is nice, "Sister privilege." I said happily.
"Of course. Should I come back to the pack house?"
"Yeah. Paul from the council is here. We're discussing Caden's parents. We want Daniel and you to be there too."
"Five minutes."
"Thanks Benji."
"Any time."
"Okay see you-" he had already hung up.
He was always so eager. I poured the three and added milk to my own.
I walked across the house and peeked into the lounge, "What do you take in your coffee Paul?"
"One milk, one sugar. Thanks."
"Sounds good."
He nodded.
You could've just asked me to ask babe. Caden said as I headed back towards the kitchen as Daniel walked in.
Caden it's a minute walk.
Precious cargo babe.
I didn't respond, just rolled my eyes. Sometimes he went too far. "Hey Daniel."
"Cupcake!" He hugged me to him, "We need to use that pond again." He said it like a fact.
"Maybe tomorrow?"
"This afternoon?"
"Sorry. I'm booked."
"Oooh, big plans Cupcake?"
"I don't know actually. Caden just said I was booked."
"Ah, the romantic suspense of waiting to know the place of your date." He said dramatically, "So cliche."
I laughed and slapped his shoulder gently, "I'm sure that's why he's doing it."
"You and I both know why he's doing it Cupcake." He said in a he's-a-guy-who-thinks-with-a-body-part-lower-than-the-belt tone.
I laughed, "For my jokes, obviously."
Daniel laughed before grabbing the coffee and the one he had made for himself, "Right."
"Hey. Don't be mean."
"Just looking out for my cupcake."
I rolled my eyes as we stepped into the lounge. Caden instantly pulled me to his lap, "Why have Dan's arms been around you?" His voice was a low growl in my ear.
"It was a friendly hug Caden." I said as he kissed my neck, right below my ear.
"Ew. I could fix that, we could shower babe." I rolled my eyes as Daniel and Paul got acquainted.
"Are you saying I smell bad?"
"Bee you smell perfect, especially with our pup, but Dan smells like a wet dog."
I laughed quietly, before looking up to Paul and Daniel. I heard an engine coming in the distance and stood up, "That should be Benjamin."
"I'll get it Bee, relax."
"Cade-"
He moved me back towards the chair and winked as he left the room.
"Wow, my brother is whipped." Daniel said with a chuckle.
"Whipped?" Paul asked curiously.
"Yep. She has him wrapped around his finger. She says jump, he asks how high. After jumping at three different heights."
Paul laughed, "Then I'm passed whipped."
"What?" Daniel asked.
"My mate says she's hungry and I've already ordered three different types of food, just in case." Daniel laughed before Paul continued, "But I wouldn't have it any other way."
"You can say that again." I heard Caden say as he walked in behind Ben.
He took my hand as I stood up before sitting me back on his lap.
"I would love to continue this 'whipped' conversation with you young man," Paul said to Daniel, "But we have more pressing matters on our hands."
"Any time sir." Daniel said happily.
"Okay. And you're the other Beta, Benjamin yes?"
The two got acquainted before everyone sat down.
"Did you learn anything new Paul?" Caden asked.
"Not much with my talk with them. I agree with you in that some of their sentences sound off. But what struck me was that they didn't know who I was. Now I'm not trying to sound high and mighty, but I knew your parents. Albeit it was over a decade ago, but I dealt with them frequently. They didn't even know I was a council member. They're memory is either worse than any werewolf I've ever known, or they have no recollection of anything before their suspicious crash."
The room fell silent before Daniel spoke, "Why don't we test them?"
"What?" Caden asked, "Test what?"
"Their memory. Their story is full of holes, no doubt. How do we even know it's them?"
"Daniel's right. We should subtly ask them questions about it."
"Okay so how?" Caden asked as he took my hand. I like that instead of stressing he just holds me and calms.
"What if you two go in there? Talk a bit and slowly get into a conversation about reminiscing. If they don't remember anything then we'll know."
He nodded. Paul stood up, "I'm going to get going. I have a meeting at noon that I shouldn't be late for. Let me know how this goes though, if you don't mind Alpha."
"You'll be in the loop sir."
Paul shook everyone's hands before hugging me. "So I'll see you all this weekend?"
"Of course. Unless something happens before then. But we'll call."
He nodded and Caden walked him out.
Benji and Daniel followed me to the kitchen as I grabbed all the cups. I put them in the sink when Caden's arms wrapped around my waist, "Can we go?" He sounded torn again.
He was worried. Is everything okay Caden?
He nodded. I leaned my head back and he kissed my temple, "I just want to be alone Bee."
"Of course Caden." I rinsed off my hands and dried them.
"Thank you both." Caden said to them.
"Any time bro." Daniel said as Ben replied, "You can count on us."
"I think we should talk to them tomorrow Daniel, two visitors in a day might be reason for them to think twice." Daniel nodded before he continued, "Ben if you could give them dinner? I'd like to hear as much as we can."
"Of course. Breakfast too?"
"Yes." Ben nodded before I moved closer to Caden, hoping to calm him.
"Thank you Benji. And you too Daniel. Always one to make us laugh."
He smirked, "Remember Cupcake, I'm funny."
"No but that statement was worth a laugh," I said as I took Caden's hand, leading him out of the kitchen.
I heard Ben making burn comments and Caden chuckled before scooping me up and carrying me upstairs.
We both packed a shared small bag for one night and Caden hadn't said a word. He held me close, my waist in one hand, our bag in his other, on our way to the garage.
He opened my door but I turned and held his face in my two hands, making him look at me, "I love you Caden."
He took my hands in his before hugging me to him, "I love you so much Bee."
Usually he would offer me to drive, so I knew his head was out of it, he was weird in that he liked watching me drive the sports car. Weirdo. But I loved it.
"Everything will be okay. Everything."
"How can you be so sure?"
"Because no matter what happens I will be here. I'm here entirely for you. Entirely." I tilted my face up and he looked down at me before finally putting his lips on mine.
"Will you drive?" He asked.
"Of course."
"I think you're happiest behind the wheel of that car beautiful."
"I do like the car," I said slowly as he walked me around, "But I'd give up the car if I could stay in your arms."
"You're perfect."
I laughed and he closed my door before he tossed the bag in the back. He climbed around and got in as I turned the engine over.
He took my hand and we were quiet other than him giving me directions. I had no idea where we were going. I could hardly focus on geography though, I was trying to decipher his thoughts. He was getting tenser as we drove and I pulled over into a short gravel path.
"Bee what are you-?"
I unbuckeld and cut the engine before turning to him, "Talk to me Caden. You're freaking me out. I don't know what to do. What to say. I don't- I don't know how to help you through this. I'm not a good mate if I can't help you when you need it. I-"
"Hey hey hey." He moved me to him, "You're perfect. Perfectly flawless. My perfect mate. Bee you've been nothing but supportive since this started."
"Talk to me. You're getting more tense the further away we get, and the more clouded your mind gets. Talk to me. Let me help you. Please."
He sighed and rested his forehead against mine, "I thought they were dead. I thought Dan and I had put this behind us."
I remained silent as I studied his face.
His eyes were closed and he was breathing slowly, "What if we're wrong?"
"What do you mean Caden?"
"What if they're really alive? Since they came here I've covinced myself that they are fake. They are imposters because my father would never do this to us. They would never abandon their pack." His voice was rising as he pulled away from me. "I refuse to think that they really did that. But what if they did? What if they're them? What if they actually-?"
I kissed him until he calmed a bit. I pecked his lips once more before meeting his eye, "If we're wrong, as you say, and they're not imposters, then they didn't tell us the real reason, they didn't tell us why they abandoned you. Your parents were great Alpha's Caden. Don't doubt them now. If they did leave they had a reason. And if we're right, then we'll get to the bottom of this. We'll find out why they're doing this and who they really are."
He kissed me hungrily, "What did I do to deserve you?"
"Become the awesome man you are. Now, should we move on?"
He chuckled, "Yes. Lets go."
I pecked his cheek but he held my face and kissed me passionately. I rolled my eyes and began driving again.
Soon he nodded to the right, "The next driveway beautiful."
I turned and slowed my speed so the stones didn't hurt the car. "Stop staring at me Caden."
"Bee..." he groaned.
"My face doesn't change."
"How about I stop looking when I find a flaw?"
"So corny."
He laughed, "You love it."
"I hate that I can't deny that." He laughed and kissed my palm before I parked in front of a bridge.
The bridge wasn't wide enough for a car.
"Caden is this where we're supposed to be?"
"Just about."
He climbed out and opened my door as I took the key out. I climbed out and he held my hand, "I thought you'd know where we were honestly."
I looked around but didn't know, "No I don't really. Why?"
He began walking and talked in quiet tones, not disrupting the serenity of the woods, "My wolf has been restless lately. I thought we could both use some nature."
I smiled, "You think of everything Caden."
He shook his head as he lead me over the bridge, "I asked the Doc if it was okay for you to shift and he said you'd be fine."
"We've never run together as wolves except that one time when you tackled me."
"I love your wolf Bee. She's remarkable and stunning. A work of nature. I figured we could run before dark."
"Why did we bring clothes?"
"The cabin isn't far from here babe."
"You took us the back way?"
He nodded, "I didn't want to ruin the surprise and I found something nearby."
"Something?"
He nodded, "Surprise babe."
"So many surprises today."
He chuckled and we kept walking, "Want to shift?"
I nodded. He let my hand go and we both quickly shifted. I calmed as my wolf shook out her fur, letting the sun hit her face as I looked at the clouds.
You're beautiful Bee.
I found Caden looking at me, his head was just an inch higher than mine. I would normally be a lot smaller for a female compared to an Alpha, but I was born Alpha too. Still smaller, but larger than the whole pack, excluding Caden.
He ran his side down mine before nuzzling his face in my neck. Caden you're wolf is so majestic and strong. A true Alpha.
I wish I could kiss you right now.
I mentally laughed before we took off running through the woods. We ran beside each other but Caden was leading the way. The woods looked familiar but I didn't know why. The same way I knew where we were when we were at the cabin, but I hadn't known about the cabin. I had been close by with my grandfather.
We moved swiftly between the trees as the sounds around us calmed our wolves.
Half hour later Caden slowed and I could faintly hear the sound of rushing water. He came closer, Doc said swimming was fine too.
Caden I'm pregnant not dying.
Had to double-check babe.
I rolled my eyes and his eyes shone with humor, he was laughing at me.
We soon came upon a waterfall and I shifted back after Caden did. The waterfall was beautiful. And familiar.
I felt a tear run out of the corner of my eye, "Bee what's wrong?"
"It's surreal. It's better than I remember."
"Remember?"
"My grandfather took me here when I was young. That's why I knew where we were at the cabin." I hugged Caden, "Thank you. It's so beautiful and awe-inspiring. It's gorgeous."
"It's not as beautiful as you."
"So corny."
He laughed, "How about we swim?"
I nodded and he picked me up carrying me to the water. He stepped in and soon it was to his ribs. He put my arms around his neck and legs around his waist, "The water is perfect Caden."
He nodded and I fell back into the water. He slowly picked me back up, his eyes running up my abdomen to my face, "You're stomach is starting to show beautiful."
"Are you calling me fat?" I said in fake-shock/hurt.
He panicked and I laughed. He scowled, "I thought your hormones were going again."
"No."
"I meant it as a compliment. Bee you carrying our pup is a miracle. A true blessing."
"I know you did."
"You seem sad."
"Not sad. I can't wait for our pup. But I'm going to be huge. I'm going to be a whale."
He laughed, "Not even close. And if I have to carry you everywhere then so be it. Or we could just stay in bed."
"You won't be able to carry me."
"Don't doubt me beautiful. You'll be beautiful even when you're nine months pregnant."
"Bullshit." I laughed and he scowled before he kissed me.
Then we started swimming and goofing around. I laughed so hard my stomach started to hurt but that just made me all the more happy. What better pain than one from laughing?
It was dark and the moon on the water was amazing.
I yawned and Caden wrapped me in his arms as we tread water, "Should we go to the cabin?"
I nodded.
He piggy-backed me there and my eyes closed before we made it to the car.
------
I heard Caden's voice whispering as I was being moved. I felt something soft beneath me and curled into the cold blankets. My hair was still damp and I knew Caden wasn't in the room. I got out of bed as Caden came back, "You should sleep Bee."
"Not in jeans," I mumbled in one word.
He chuckled, "Sit down Bee." I didn't have a choice as he sat me on the bed before tugging off my shirt. He pulled off my pants before taking his shirt off. He slipped it over my head and I put my arms in the armholes, "Better?"
I nodded, "Your shirt smells like you. I like how you smell."
He chuckled, "Tired thoughts are true thoughts right?"
I shrugged.
"Come on sleeping beauty. Lay down." He pulled the covers over me.
"Caden aren't you coming to bed?" I asked with almost-closed eyes.
"You should eat something first, will you be awake if I grab a snack?"
I shook my head, "Just hold me."
He sighed, "I'm supposed to make sure you eat."
"If I eat will you sleep?"
"Yes beautiful, give me five minutes okay?"
"Not a second longer."
He chuckled before his lips met my forehead, "Of course."
I heard him go and my eyes opened. I never could sleep without him.
Awake Bee?
What if I said no?
I heard his laugh from the bedroom. He was back a minute later with two peanut butter and jam sandwiches and two yogurts.
"Toast and yogurt? I only had five minutes."
"As long as you hold me after."
"Your wish is my command."
"It wasn't before you left the room."
He chuckled, "Your wish is my command after I know you're healthy."
I rolled my eyes and bit into the ultimate sandwich. Mmmm PB&J.
