Chapter 40 of 49

Chapter - 39

As Arjun and Mia descended the stairs, their hands intertwined in a gesture of newfound comfort and support, they were greeted by the sight of the children gathered around, laughing and chatting animatedly.

The warmth of the scene was a stark contrast to the gravity of the discussions they had earlier.

As Abhay watched Arjun teasing the kids and Mia smiling warmly at the scene, he couldn't help but notice the growing connection between Arjun and Mia. The comfort and ease they shared were evident.

He had no objection to Arjun pursuing a relationship with Mia but also recognized the importance of focusing on Mia's recovery and future. Let's not forget they are still young adults.

Abhay turned to Karan, his expression serious yet thoughtful. "Karan, you mentioned your sister Kiara and her husband Vishu are interested in fostering Mia.

Akshat chimed in, "Kiara lives in Winchester, right?"

Karan affirmed, "Yes, they do. Vishu's parents and siblings are also there, so they built their house in Winchester. They run their own family business, although Vishu's career path is quite different from theirs. Despite that, they maintain close family bonds."

Karan continues, they are currently here because my mother wasn't feeling well. Vishnu mentioned that they're planning to foster a child and will be moving to Winchester permanently soon."

The adults nod listening to Karan when while, Mia's anxiety was evident. She looked at Karan and asked hesitantly, "Do they know about me?"Arjun, sensing Mia's unease, gave her hand a gentle squeeze.

Karan nodded reassuringly. "Yes, they do. They're aware of your past and are eager to support you. You'll be in good hands with them." Kiara and Vishnu both are lawyers and have been involved in advocating for girls' rights and have a strong commitment to supporting children in need. They also have two daughters around your age, Siya, who is 18 and about to start college, and Janvi, who is 15 who is studying in Winchester High school which is about 15 minutes away from their house.

Vishu's parents and siblings live in Winchester for a very long time, so they have a strong support system." His parents are also very famous around Winchester and his older brother,Vishal have chains of restaurants and CEO of their company and his youngest sibling is doctor. Everyone in the family is well educated and very optimistic.

Abhay's gaze softened slightly. "I'm glad to hear that. It's important for Mia to have a supportive and caring environment as she starts this new chapter."

Arjun chimed in, a hint of concern in his voice. "Winchester is about 62 miles away from here. That's quite a distance."

Abhay turned to his son, his expression firm yet understanding. "The final decision will be hers, Arjun. If she doesn't have a problem with the distance, then we should respect her choice."

Mia looked around the room, feeling the weight of everyone's eyes on her. "I just hope I don't cause too much trouble for you all or them," she said softly, her voice tinged with uncertainty.

Abhay smiled warmly at her, his voice gentle. "You're not trouble to anyone, Mia. We just want what's best for you and your future."

Arjun, however, wasn't ready to let the topic go. "But can't we arrange something here, in London? She could stay close, and we could keep an eye on things. Shouldn't we consider all the options?"

Abhay shot a glance at his son, his expression a mix of patience and firmness. He was about to reply when Rudraksh, who had been quietly observing the tension between father and son, interjected. "Arjun," he said calmly, "It's not just about finding a place for her to stay. It's about finding the right environment where she can thrive. Sometimes, that means considering places that aren't right next door."

Arjun opened his mouth to protest, a frown creasing his brow, but Mia, sensing the building tension, reached under the table and gently squeezed his hand. She didn't want to be the cause of any problems or friction within the family. With a soft, reassuring tone, she said, "Thank you for thinking about me, Arjun. I appreciate it. But I think I'd like to meet them first and see how it feels."

Arjun glanced at her, his frustration softening as he felt her eyes on him.

Karan offered a warm smile and said, "Of course, Mia. Take your time with this. I'll let Kiara know about your decision. They'll be happy to meet you whenever you're ready."

The tension in the room slowly dissipated, replaced by a sense of cautious optimism. Akshat, sensing the need to diffuse the situation and lighten the mood, chimed in with a smile, "That sounds like a good plan. For now, let's just enjoy this meal together and make the most of our time with Rudraksh and Roohi before they head off."

The room fell into a quiet, contemplative silence as everyone began to eat. The children, sensing the shift in mood, stopped their chatter, focusing instead on their plates.

Abhay stole a glance at Arjun, noting the frustration lingering on his son's face. He knew they needed to have a serious conversation soon, but for now, he chose to let it be, letting the room settle into the quiet sounds of a family meal.

Arjun opened his mouth to protest, a frown creasing his brow, but Mia, sensing the building tension, reached under the table and gently squeezed his hand. She doesn't want to cause any problems between the family due to her and said softly thank you for thinking about me, "I'll think about it. I want to meet them first and see how it feels."

Arjun glanced at her, his frustration softening as he saw the earnestness in her eyes. He gave a reluctant nod, his concern still evident but understanding her need to make her own choices.

Karan offered a warm smile and said, "Of course, Mia. Take your time with this. I'll let Kiara know about your decision. They'll be happy to meet you whenever you're ready."

Mia just nods, Akshat, sensing the need to diffuse the situation and lighten the mood, chimed in with a smile, "That sounds like a good plan. For now, let's just enjoy this meal together and make the most of our time with Rudraksh and Roohi before they head off."

The tension in the room slowly dissipated, the conversation shifted to lighter topics. Everyone began eating their lunch, engaging in casual chatter, their earlier concerns momentarily set aside.

He watched as Mia made an effort to smile, interacting with Rudraksh and Roohi, her demeanor still cautious but more at ease than before. Abhay's heart softened. She had been through so much already, and he didn't want to rush her into anything she wasn't ready for. Mia needed time, space, and understanding — and they would all have to respect that.

Later that evening, the household began to quiet down as Rudraksh and Roohi prepared to leave for the Oberoi mansion. Karan, Akshat, and Michael also decided to head back, giving the family some space after an emotionally charged day. As the front door closed behind them, a calm settled over the house, but the undercurrent of unresolved feelings remained.

Abhay retreated to his study, hoping to find a moment of solitude to process the day's events. He sat at his desk, his thoughts drifting back to the conversation over lunch. The subtle tension between him and Arjun hadn't gone unnoticed. Abhay knew his son well enough to recognize that he was deeply concerned about Mia, perhaps more than he realized himself.

A soft knock on the study door pulled Abhay from his thoughts. "Come in," he called, his voice steady but curious.

The door creaked open, revealing Arjun standing in the doorway, his expression a mix of determination and uncertainty. "Dad, can I come in?" Arjun asked, his tone respectful but hinting at the serious conversation he was ready to have.

Abhay nodded, gesturing for him to enter. "Of course, Arjun. Come in, sit down." He watched as Arjun stepped inside, closing the door behind him.

Arjun took a seat across from his father, taking a deep breath before speaking. "Dad, I wanted to talk about Mia," he began, his voice steady but laced with emotion. "I know you think sending her away is the best option, but I'm not so sure. She's been through so much already. I think she needs stability, not another change."

Abhay leaned back in his chair, his expression thoughtful. "I understand your concern, Arjun," he replied. "But sometimes, a fresh start in a new environment can be just what someone needs. Kiara and Vishnu can provide Mia with a different kind of stability, one that might help her heal and grow."

Arjun's brow furrowed in frustration. "But Dad, she is comfortable here, with us. Isn't that stability too? Why can't she stay here and build a life with us?"

Abhay sighed, leaning forward, resting his elbows on the desk. "I'm not against Mia staying here,"Arjun," he began carefully with a pause, "I understand that you have feelings for Mia. It's obvious to anyone paying attention. And I don't have a problem with that if you both decide to pursue a relationship."

Arjun blinked in surprise, caught off guard by his father's openness. "So, you knew?" he asked, a mix of relief and nervousness in his voice.

Arjun let out a sigh, his shoulders relaxing a bit. "I just... I didn't want you to think that I was being irresponsible or that I wasn't thinking about what's best for her," he said.

Abhay smiled warmly. "I know you, Arjun. I know your heart is in the right place. But you also have to understand that Mia is in a vulnerable place right now. She needs time to heal and find herself. If she decides she wants to stay here or if she wants to explore a new environment with Kiara and Vishnu, we need to support that."

Arjun nodded, his expression thoughtful. "I get it, Dad. I just want to make sure that whatever happens, she knows we're here for her. That I'm here for her."

Abhay reached across the desk and placed a hand on Arjun's shoulder. "And that's exactly the kind of support she needs right now, Arjun. Just be there for her, without any expectations. Let her make her own choices and show her that no matter what, she has a family here."

Arjun nodded, a small smile forming on his lips. "Thanks, Dad. I appreciate it."

Abhay smiled back. "Anytime, son. Now, why don't we go and see how she's doing? I'm sure she'd appreciate some company."

Arjun stood up, feeling lighter than he had in days. "Yeah, I think that's a good idea."

As they left the study together, Arjun felt a renewed sense of purpose. No matter what Mia decided, he knew he would be there for her every step of the way. And with his father's support, he felt ready to face whatever came next.

Arjun walked towards Mia's room, his mind still swirling with thoughts from his conversation with Abhay. When he reached her door, he found the room empty. Confused, he turned around and made his way back downstairs, hoping to find her elsewhere. As he descended, he spotted a maid passing by.

"Excuse me," Arjun called out to the maid, who paused and turned to him with a polite smile. "Have you seen Mia?"

The maid nodded. "Yes, sir. Miss Mia is in the library."

"Thank you," Arjun replied, nodding back. He turned and headed in the direction of the library, his hands slipping into his pockets as he walked.

As he approached the library, he noticed the door was slightly ajar. He pushed it open quietly and stepped inside, careful not to make a sound. His eyes scanned the room until he spotted Mia. She was standing on her tiptoes, reaching for a book on a high shelf, her face scrunched up in concentration as she stretched to reach it.

Without a word, Arjun moved closer. In one swift motion, he wrapped his arms around her waist and lifted her up. Mia let out a small gasp, startled by the sudden movement. But when she glanced back and saw Arjun's familiar face, she relaxed.

"Arjun!" she breathed, her initial surprise giving way to a soft smile. "You scared me!"

Arjun chuckled softly, his voice warm and reassuring. "Sorry, didn't mean to. Just thought I'd help," he said gently as he ensured she could reach the book she needed. He carefully set her back down, his hands lingering just a moment longer at her waist.

Mia held the book close, her cheeks still flushed from the unexpected closeness and the memory of their recent kiss. She looked up at him, her eyes reflecting a mix of gratitude and a hint of something deeper.

"Thank you," she said softly, her voice barely above a whisper.

"Anytime," Arjun replied, his gaze lingering on her with a touch of affection. He stepped back, giving her space while still watching her with a caring expression. "I didn't mean to intrude. I just wanted to check on you."

Mia nodded, her heart warmed by his thoughtfulness. "I appreciate it. "I was just looking for something to read, to take my mind off things."

Mia's smile widened, and she nodded, the tension from earlier melting away in the warm, quiet comfort of the library.

Mia's smile widened, and she nodded. The tension from earlier seemed to melt away in the warm, quiet comfort of the library. They chatted about the book Mia had been reaching for when Arjun decided to address something on his mind.

"So, what do you think about moving in with the Advani family?" Arjun asked, his tone gentle but curious.

Mia's expression grew thoughtful. She looked down at the book she still held, fiddling with the cover as she considered her response. "I think... I think it might be a good opportunity for me," she said slowly. "Kiara and Vishu seem like really nice people, But I'm also a bit nervous. It's a big change."

Arjun nodded, understanding her apprehension. "It is a big change, but sometimes those changes can lead to new beginnings. If it helps, I think you'll be in good hands with them. They're known for their kindness and support."

Mia looked up at him, her eyes searching for reassurance. "Do you think so? What if it's not the right fit?"

Arjun smiled reassuringly. "You'll never know until you try. And remember, you're not alone in this. If you need anything or if it doesn't work out, I'm here for you."

Mia's heart warmed at his words, feeling a mix of relief and gratitude. "Thank you, Arjun. That means a lot."

Arjun gently brushed a strand of hair from her face, his touch tender. He added with a playful tone, "And don't forget, Winchester is only 62 miles away. If you ever need me, I'll come for you, even if it's the middle of the night."

Mia smiled softly, feeling a flicker of hope despite the uncertainty. "Thank you, Arjun. That means more than you know."
