We went into Utmas main room. Our beads were still vibrantly flashing. Mine was flashing red, while Satsus was flashing a deep essence of violet. They shook violently against our wrists.
Satsu proceeded to knock, but Utmas servant was already there.
"Utma would like to speak to you both!" The servant called.
Satsu gave the most deadly expression to the servant that I had ever seen. The servant's forehead was beginning to sweat, causing him to whimper under his breath. Satsu and I walked down the hall, as the drapery waved past us as we walked. Satsu began to look more depressed. His face grew into sadness, and his feelings were seemed to be worse than before. All I could sense was distress and sorrow.
We reached into a bedroom. Utma was found standing beside the cradle. Two newborns were crying to each other.
"Look! How am I supposed to take care of all of you on my own Satsu? Especially you were just out a moment ago with Eyra. She's wrecking my trust. I am on the verge of pushing both of you into a chamber, and where you can make food for my two babies." Utma cried.
Her eyes were red. Her hair whisked all over her face. She blew her nose into a handkerchief as the two babies were screaming. I stood there as Utma yelled at Satsu. All Satsu did was look down at his feet and listen to Utmas yelling. I sensed a feeling. Something told me to come closer towards the cradle, and so I did.
"What are you doing?" Utma heaved her sobs.
I had looked into a cradle. One baby looked up at me with the biggest blue eyes I have ever seen. He stopped crying, as the other one did as well. The baby let out giggle, and smiled. I took some left over straw from my pocket and started to make a doll. And then I had given it to the baby. The other twin was still on the verge of crying. I made another doll, I wanted it too have more character, so I added a hat. I gave it to the other twin, and his tears melted away into his pillow and he smiled.
"You calmed down my babies." Utma exclaimed, and turned over to me. I looked over at Satsu. His mouth dropped.
I started to feel good about myself as the other twin who had smiled at me first stood up in his cradle. He wrapped the blanket over himself. He giggled and was the happiest baby I had ever seen. He pulled the blanket over his head, hiding his face and then opening the blanket and smiled. He repeated this game for a moment as Utma and Satsu looked at each other by surprise.
"My babies are happy..." Utma walked over completely overtaken with what had just happened. She picked up the baby, the one who had the blanket over his head and held him in her arms.
"How did you do that? How did you make these dolls?" Utma picked up one of the dolls from off of the cradle.
I thought it out for a moment, and then I spoke. "When I was young, my mentor had taught me to make these dolls for children of the village where we were from. They were about to be taken away from their parents, and these dolls helped them calm down. I never knew why, but they did." I explained.
Utma smiled. I had never seen her smile, even when I had come into the spirit world and into the house and when I first had saw her. Her anger and madness toned down to her neutral self. Her eyes looked less demonic- instead they glistened.
"I apologize for my behavior earlier once before." Utma bowed with kindness. I did as well.
Satsu was completely and in utter fascination by me. I could tell, because his smile became even calmer, and realistic.
"I'm sorry to have to tell you this, you still made my babies happy. That is really kind of you to do so." Utma went on, "But sadly you must work to prove yourself worthy. I can tell, because if you were to have proven yourself already, first the beads around your wrist would break off. And then simply you would have left. But as of now, that hadn't happen. And you and Satsu must still work." Utma grew into her serious self, and she meant business. Satsus eyes looked down again. But he still seemed to be relieved. He hadn't talk this whole time, but I felt that he didn't need to. His silence meant more than words. It was appreciation.
Utma bowed once more, as we all did to each other. It was nice to see Utma as her normal self. She waved us off, and she told Satsu and I that we will soon be awarded. She also apologized to Satsu for working him too hard. He quietly nodded, and we walked on out and went to our rooms.
Before I walked into my room, Satsu looked over at me before he went in his.
"Thanks." His eyes looked into mine. Although his bangs were long, his blue eyes glistened. He had hope. And appreciation. I felt good about what I have done.
"Anytime." I nodded, and each of us walked into our rooms and shut our doors.
I slept a dreamful sleep, as I heard a sound of a happy cry coming through the wall next to me.
The corners of my lips parted into a smile. I was happy.
