Ace âBut alpha.â A mother said as she cradled her daughter. âHow do we know that he wonât hurt us?â
I opened my mouth to speak, but others beat me to it.
âHeâs a killer!â
âHeâs a disgrace!â
âThink of the children!â
I growled as I watched my pack memberâs kept shooting out their thoughts.
Normally Iâm all for it, but Iâm trying to explain myself in this pack meeting and they arenât letting me talk.
âEnough!â I yelled as I slammed my hands down on the table.
Everyone shut up real quick and shrunk back in their seats as they looked at me.
âI understand your concerns, I really do. But I am the alpha, I will do the talking.â I growled as my members nodded. âI know that a lot of you are scared because of what Deacon did. I am too. But Iâm not going to go against the Moon Goddess. At first I was a little skeptical, but I know it was really her.â
âWe havenât forgiven them completely.â Zylen said as she spoke up. âThey all have a lot of catching up to do and we warned them that our pack was not going to welcome them with open arms.â
âI know that when we see them, you guys will be warry and watching them like a hawk. That is okay.â I said as I looked over everyone. âBut when we do see them, do not be rude. They have a lot of making up to do and I donât want anyone to treat them like shit. So if you donât have anything nice to say, then donât say anything at all. Do I make myself clear?â
âYes alpha.â Everyone said simultaneously.
âGood.â I said nodding to myself. âNow onto more important matters.â
âWe got a little visitor yesterday when we visited Deacon.â Colby sighed.
"
visitor actually.â Zylen said as she put an emphasis on âtheâ.
âDo you mean?â Elder Letty asked.
I nodded at her shocked face. âLawson has made an appearance.â
My wolf whimpered as we heard the gasps and felt the fear radiating off of everyone.
I held my hand up so they would quite down. âHe didnât have anyone with him when he showed up. Which makes me think he isnât ready to attack or he wants us to think that. Either way, we canât let out guard down. You all know how he is. Lawson is unpredictable and cunning. He is reckless, but he gets the job done. It amazes me how he makes it work though.â
âBut why would he come alone?â A pack member asked. âThatâs way too risky.â
Zylen nodded. âI know. It doesnât add up but we canât take the situation lightly.â
I was about to put in my opinion, but the doors to the hall burst open.
âAlpha!â A guard yelled as he ran in carrying a box.
âWhatâs wrong?â I asked on guard as my pack members looked scared.
âW-we have.â The guard stopped talking a took a deep breath. âWe have a present.â
âA present?â I asked confused as I looked down at the box.
He nodded with a pained expression. âLawson left it.â
I growled as I took the box and put it down on a table.
âI-itâs April.â He said with a shaky voice.
âNo.â I whispered as I quickly opened the box.
I gasped and jumped back as I saw Aprilâs head in the box.
Her face was pale and her eyes were closed.
But as I looked closer, I noticed discoloring around her mouth.
âWe need to get this checked out.â I whispered to the guard.
I heard a gasp and I quickly looked over to Aprilâs mom and her face fell.
âApril!â Mrs. Willis yelled as she ran forward.
âIâm sorry.â I said as I caught her. âWe donât want you to see her like this.â
âBut thatâs my baby!â She cried.
âI know.â I sighed as I hugged her tightly. âGet that fucking box out of here.â
The guard grabbed the box and quickly ran out of the building.
Mr. Willis walked up and took his wife into his arms.
âWe will make proper funeral arrangements for April.â I told them.
âThank you alpha.â Mr. Willis sighed as he held onto his wife tighter as she continued to sob.
âUntil then. I think you two need to spend some time together.â
Mr. Willis nodded. âAlpha?â
âYes?â I asked as he gave me a serious look.
âPlease find that bastard that did this to our daughter.â He growled lowly.
I nodded. âI promise.â
âThank you.â Mrs. Willis whispered as they walked off.
âEveryone dismissed!â I called out. âSome things have happened that has impacted us all. I think we all need to have a break and will pick up later.â
Everyone nodded and quietly left the building.
I donât think anyone wanted to talk after what just happened.
âI think itâs time we joined forces with Deacon and his gang.â Colby said as she looked between Zylen and I.
âI think sheâs right.â Zylen said as she walked closer to us. âIf what we think is true, Lawson is gonna have a lot of people behind him. And they are probably well trained. They got onto our land without making a sound.â
âYouâre right.â I said as I turned to see Wes and Mike. âWes. Mike.â
Their heads popped up and they jogged over to me.
âWhatâs up alpha?â They asked at the same time.
They always do that. Must be a twin thing.
âWhat happened?â I asked. âAnd donât leave anything out. I want to know.â
Wes sighed. âWe were doing patrol. Everything was normal until April smelt something.â
âWhat did she smell?â I asked.
âWe donât know. It didnât smell like rogues. It was something else. It was like this rotting, stinky smell.â
âThatâs what rogues smell like.â Zylen pointed out.
Mike shook his head. âIt was a rogue smell I know that for sure. Rogues smell like rotten trash. This didnât smell like that. It smelt like rotten eggs, it was really stinky, and it had a very potent smell to it.â
âThen what happened next?â I asked urging them on.
âApril stopped walking and asked if we smelt that. When we said yes, we all decided to go in that direction to check it out.â Mike explained. âWe couldnât find anything so April thought it would be better if we split up.â
âWe didnât want to because we have never come across something like this before, but she insisted. She ran off up north before we could say anything else.â Wes sighed looking over at Mike. âAfter talking, Mike and I followed her. Something didnât feel right.â
âThatâs when we heard her scream.â Mike whispered as he closed his eyes.
I felt bad for Mike. April was a good friend of his and I knew that he liked her a lot. He always hoped that they were mates, but he was disappointed when they werenât.
âWe both shifted and ran as fast as we could. We couldnât find her though.â
âWhat do you mean you couldnât find her?â Zylen asked confused.
Wes shrugged. âWe just couldnât. That awful smell was blocking every scent. Itâs like they just vanished.â
âAfter a couple minutes of searching, we finally found the area but it was too late.â Mike sighed as he looked at the ground. âThatâs when we came across the box. The whole ground was covered in blood. Aprilâs body was a couple feet away from the box.â
Colby gasped and shut her eyes tightly. âI canât believe they would do this.â
âI knew they were rude, but I would have never guess that they would go this extreme.â Zylen said worried. âThey are only going to get worse.â
âYouâre right.â I said as I looked at everyone. âWe are going to need some help.â
âWhat do you have in mind?â Wes asked.
âI think Iâm going to make some calls to our allies.â I explained. âAlpha Louis owes me a favor.â
âWhat about Deacon?â Colby asked.
I nodded. âI think Iâm going to call him too. We might need his help.â
Wes and Mike looked uneasy.
âHow do you think that is going to go over? Almost the entire pack hates him.â Wes pointed out.
âOh great. I forgot about that.â Zylen sighed. âIâm sure they will be okay with it. Maybe. Yeah probably not.â
I shrugged. âWe will think of a solution when we get to that point.â
âWorks for me.â Mike laughed.
This is not going to end well.
