Chapter 190
In his tone, one could easily discern a hint of mockery
In the play of light and shadow, Frank loaned against the tree trunk, with scattered short hair falling over his forehead. The corners of his eyes curved upwards, exuding a carefree and unrestrained demeanor. Seeming completely oblivious, he said such things to someone of the opposite sex whom he had just met today, which was quite inappropriate,
On such a cold and bleak night, why did he come out to the courtyard?
I put away my phone, feeling somewhat guarded. âWhat are you doing here too?â
âRelax, Iâm definitely not following you,â Frank replied in a lazy voice. âItâs too stuffy inside. I came out for some fresh air. Who knew people in Jelaston were so open.
âItâs just them.â
I always felt this man was not simple and not suitable for much interaction.
I pursed my lips and got straight to the point. âCan you keep this matter to yourself for now?â
I needed to achieve my goal with this matter. If he let it slip, all my previous efforts would be in vain.
âI can,â he readily agreed, then changed the subject. âWhatâs in it for me?â
I frowned. âWhat do you mean?â
âIâm the type who always gets up early for a profit. Iâve never done anything without benefits.â
If I lingered here any longer, Jessica might suspect that,I had been in the yard all along, peeking at their scandalous affair.
Eager to leave, I asked, âWhat do you want in return?â
âHavenât thought about it yet,â he said, with a smirk. âHow about this, promise me one thing. Iâll let you know what it is when I decide.â
âOkay,â I agreed without much thought.
Anyway, after tonight, we probably wouldnât see each other again. Without evidence, there was nothing he could do.
He finally straightened up, glanced at my thin black dress, and asked, âArenât you cold?â
I felt inexplicably strange and casually replied, âA little
âReallyâresistant to cold,â he praised, then tightened his leather jacket. Perhaps to avoid suspicion, he didnât immediately return but walked in another direction.
This actually made things easier for me. I wouldnât have to wait a while before going back inside.
Inside the banquet hall, it was warm.
Jack walked over with a smile. âBeen looking for you for ages.
âAre you done being busy?â

I asked with a smiling face.
Today was the Renolds familyâs domain, and he was the only heir to the Renolds family. He should be too busy to care about others.
He shook his head helplessly. âNot yet. Took a break to see you, afraid you might need something but didnât want to bother me.â
âDonât worry, if I really need something, Iâll definitely let you know.â
I reassured him, dispelling his concerns. âYou should go do what you have to.â
âOkay.â
He agreed and added, âIâve prepared a gift for you. Iâll give it to you after everything winds down.â
âIsnât today Mrs. Renoldsâs birthday celebration? Do I still get gifts?â
He smiled faintly. âGifts can be given anytime, not just on special occasions.â
âI can accept gifts, but nothing too extravagant.â
That dress from the last banquet was too expensive.
But at the time, I didnât want to be too pick. Today wasnât a holiday or birthday, so I had to let him know beforehand.
Jack cocked his brows. âIt might be valuable to you, but Iâm just returning something that belongs to you. Just accept it.â
âReturning something?â
Before I could ask in confusion, some elder acquaintances from the Renolds family came over and started chatting with Jack.
Not wanting to linger nearby, I exchanged a glance with him and left.
At the end of the banquet, I positioned myself away from the crowd, waiting for Jack to finish his duties.
âCharlotte.â Just as expected, Ryan finished bidding farewell to a business partner and walked straight over. âWhy are you here? Letâs go.â
âWaiting for someone,â I replied frankly.
His dark eyes stared at me sharply. âWaiting for whom? Jack ?â
âYes.â
