Chapter 224
Frank threw out these words and glanced at me. âWhat are you standing there for? Letâs go.â
âOkay.â
Heâs tall with long legs, taking big strides. I struggled to keep up with him because my dress hem was hindering me.
Just as we were about to reach the hotel door, a strong grip seized my wrist from behind, âCharlotte!â
I stopped in my tracks and looked at Ryan, his expression dark. I composed myself and asked calmly, âWhatâs wrong, Mr. Frost, is there something?â
Frank also turned back, his eyebrows slightly raised.
There was a deep melancholy in Ryanâs eyes. âAre you, Mr. Smith, also interested in interfering in marital affairs?â
âI have no interest in that.â Frank smiled. âJust wanted to remind Mr. Frost that bigamy is illegal.â
Ignoring Frankâs remark, Ryan firmly dragged me along without a word.
Frank furrowed his brows. âIâll be waiting in the car for you.â
With that said, Ryanâs grip on my wrist tightened even more!
His pace quickened even more.
He dragged me all the way to a secluded spot with no one around, pushed me against the wall, and there was a hint of inexplicable anger in his cold eyes. âAre you and Frank close?â
It was a direct and forceful questioning.
My shoulder blades knocked against the hard wall, causing pain. I retorted angrily, âWhat does it have to do with you?â
If Iâm not mistaken, right now, weâre just one divorce certificate away.
I just wanted a clean breakup. Whether he was with Jessica, Bethany, or anyone else had nothing to do with me anymore.
And he shouldnât interfere in my life either.
He squeezed out each word through gritted teeth. âWhat does it have to do with me? You be indifferent, but I canât!â
I suddenly felt like laughing after hearing those words. âWhat do you mean?â
âCharlotteâ¦â Ryanâs voice suddenly softened, leaning against my forehead, his usually deep and magnetic voice now tinged with bitterness. âIt seems⦠you no longer get jealous.â
It was disappointment, desolation.
After all, he was a man I had truly loved for over eight years. Seeing him like this left me feeling

uneasy.
I turned my head away, looking into the distance, a bitter smile tugging at my lips. âIndeed⦠I no longer do.â
In the past, I had been jealous countless times because of him and Jessica.
With each instance of his favoritism and choice not being me, I grew numb.
I couldnât even recall the specific instances anymore.
Whether it was him giving Jessica a promotion that should have been mine, their flirtatious banter, him sending me alone for prenatal checkâups because of Jessica, or his repeated betrayals, or⦠when
I lost our child, he was by someone elseâs side, accusing and yelling at me.
Each time, those careful expressions of love dissipated a bit more, until finally, they disappeared
completely.
Suddenly, I felt grateful that he had never chosen me
It allowed me to finally give up.
The hand Ryan had on my shoulder slowly slid away. Finally, he simply assured me, âThereâs nothing between me and Bethany.â
I lowered my eyes and sadi as casually as possible, âItâs okay, you donât need to explain to me.â
It was long past the time when I needed his assurances.
His expression changed for a moment, as if something had shattered. âYou⦠really donât care at all?â
âThatâs right.â
He stared straight at me in silence for a long time, his words clear but stubborn. âI donât believe you.â
