I thought I’d be eating the cake alone, but when I opened the door, I found the house brightly lit.

Jane, her hair wet, emerged from the bathroom, drying herself off and smiling. “You’re finally back! I was worried you wouldn’t make it before dawn.”

Coming back home still in makeup, I found it hard to relax.
