Chapter 231
In winter, days were short and nights were long. By around six oâclock in the evening, it was completely dark. I arrived at the coffee shop just before halfâpast six.
But Bob was already there.
I walked towards him and got straight to the point. âWhat did you mean by what you said at the hospital today?â
Bob lifted his chin slightly. âHave a seat.â
âYou asked me to come, and here I am. Donât beat around the bush anymore.â I sat down as he suggested.
The previous customer must have sprayed a lot of perfumeâI could smell it the moment I sat down, wrinkling my nose involuntarily.
Bob caught my attention with his next words. âSurely you donât actually believe youâre not your parents âbiological child?â
âDonât talk nonsense. I just want to know what you meant at the hospital.â
If it was just a slip of the tongue out of anger, I did have my doubts. And if that was the case, he wouldnât have insisted on meeting me.
Bob nervously shook his leg. âIt was just something said in the heat of the moment. Did you really take it seriously?â
âIs that all?â I looked at him skeptically.
At that moment, the waitress brought two cups of coffee over.
âWhat else could it be?â
Bob pushed one of the cups towards me. âI ordered this for you. Have some.â
Something wasnât right.
He wasnât this kindâhearted.
From childhood, even if I took an extra spoonful of food, he would scold me for hours.
How could he possibly invite me for coffee?
âI wonât drink the coffee. Iâll ask you again, was there really no other meaning to that statement at the hospital?â
I stood up abruptly, feeling dizzy, and leaned on the table for support.
My whole body felt weak.
Bobâs expression turned somewhat sinister. âHmph, if I said it didnât mean anything, then it didnât mean anything. Do you still think you can turn into some sort of daughter from an affluent family?â
1/3
âItâs best if thatâs the case.â

I steadied myself, trying to pull myself together. The next moment, I fell into endless darkness.
When I woke up again, I was lying on a large bed, I panicked immediately, trying to sit up, but felt too weak. Someone pushed me roughly.
It was Jessica.
She stood with her arms crossed, smiling faintly at me. âFinally awake?â
I looked aroundâit seemed to be a hotel roomâand instinctively moved back warily. âDid you do this? Whereâs Bob?â
Since when did Bob and Jessica become allies?
âWhat do you think?â
Jessica laughed coldly, her eyes filled with malice. âCharlotte, when you ruined me like this, did you ever think youâd end up in my hands?â
âI ruined you?â
âStop pretending!â
She gritted her teeth, full of resentment, âThat videoâbesides you, who else would have uploaded it online? Ryan actually defended you, saying it wasnât you.â
I frowned. âIt really wasnât me who uploaded that.â
That incident really screwed me over, thanks to Frank.
I didnât get the divorce certificate.
Now, Jessica was blaming me for it.
âIt doesnât matter anymore!â she shouted angrily, her face contorting with fury, her bright red lips seeming venomous. âRyan doesnât want me anymore. I used to still have a chance⦠itâs all because of you! Iâll never have a chance to marry him now, Charlotte, I hate you! Why should you, why should you be able to do this?â
She stared at me with crazed malice. âWhat makes you so much better than me? Why did that old man stop me from marrying into the Frost family at every turn, yet heâs so good to you! Itâs not fair, not fair at allâ¦â
âIâm already getting divorced.â I didnât want to provoke her further, so I tried to sound as calm as possible. âWhether he accepts you or not is between you two, it has nothing to do with me.â
