Chapter 273
My first reaction was a moment of bewilderment, followed by amusement. âVicious?â
When they kidnapped me and left me injured from head to toe, they didnât reflect on their own actions. Now, I merely had Zack replicate my injuries onto Bethany. It seemed that they have a different set of standards for others.
So the daughters from affluent families were more precious and the ordinary people were inferior? The two sets of standards were really unreasonable.
âAre you going to speak or not? Feeling guilty, are you? Fine, since youâve played the part of the villain, donât blame me for retaliating!â Mrs. Shaw continued to shout angrily on the other end of the line.
The phone was connected via the carâs Bluetooth, so Frank naturally heard everything clearly.
I barely had a chance to speak before Frank started, âMrs. Shaw, itâs unfair to accuse Ms. Wilson. Iâve been at her company all afternoon just to get a lift and havenât seen her associating with anyone suspicious.â
With just a few words, Frank managed to completely clear me of any involvement.
âFrank?â Mrs. Shaw hesitated for a moment, struggling to control her anger. âShe could still be involved even if she didnât meet anyone in person. Donât be deceived by her seemingly simple and kind appearance!â
âSo youâre convinced itâs her?â
âThereâs no one else in Jelaston with a motive!â Mrs. Shaw was adamant.
Frank chuckled. âHow do you figure that?â
Mrs. Shaw, already fuming, continued to curse, âBethany had kidnapped and treated her horribly not so long ago. Bethany even pressured Ryan into divorcing her. Do you think she wouldnât hold a grudge?â
âOkay.â Frank nodded slightly, still smiling. âIn that case, even if it really was her, Bethany would still deserve it.â
âFrank!â Mrs. Shaw finally realized she had said something she shouldnât have, and she was furious. âHow can you be so unreasonable? When you came to Jelaston, your parents specifically asked you to take good care of Bethany.â

âA polÃte request, and you take it so seriously?â Frankâs tone was indifferent.
Realizing she couldnât win the argument, Mrs. Shaw grew angrier and could only direct her fury at me. âCharlotte, donât play the innocent while doing such malicious things! You need to talk!â
I responded indifferently, âWhat do you want me to say?â
âDid you do this today?â I glanced at the traffic lights. âEven if I say I didnât, you wouldnât believe me, would you?â
âOf course not! Who else would have a reason to go against our Bethany?â Mrs. Shaw gritted her teeth with rage, seemingly wanting to come over immediately to avenge Bethany.
I responded coldly, âThen believe what you want.â
If there was any chance to deny my actions, I would have denied them no matter what.
I didnât have Bethanyâs background. She wouldnât be worried even if she had committed a crime.
For me, the less trouble, the better.
Mrs. Shaw hesitated. âWas it really you?â
I played the bad cop while Frank played the good cop. âMrs. Shaw, do you think she would know someone who would dare to take action against the Shaw family?â
âYour have a point!â
Mrs. Shaw, who believed in the logic of the strong oppressing the weak, was satisfied with Frankâs words.
Someone like me, didnât have the right to bully her precious daughter.
She paused briefly, then warned coldly, âCharlotte, youâd better stay honest. If you dare lay a finger on Bethany, I will make your life a living hell!â
With that, she hung up the phone.
I glanced at Frank with a puzzled look. âWhy didnât you stop Zack and instead helped me deceive the Shaw family?â
