Chapter 323
I was momentarily stunned.
âTrust me.â
Megan sat crossâlegged on the sofa, looking quite certain. âHeâs currently in a struggle. He likes you, but heâs also afraid to like you.â
I smiled. âStop guessing around. The person he likes is Lily. I just happen to look somewhat like herâ¦â
âNo, thatâs not it!â
Megan countered firmly, âMy brother isnât like that. Over the years, there have been many people who look even more like Lily than you, but heâs never paid any attention to them. Itâs not that Iâm speaking ill of him. Heâs always been someone who only acts when thereâs a benefit. If it werenât for his feelings, why would he keep helping you time and time again?â
âWhat he did wasâ¦â
I wanted to refute, but halfway through, I couldnât find a reason.
For instance, Zackâs incident, and when Mrs. Shaw forced me to kneel in the snow⦠it didnât seem like he was helping just because it was convenient.
Afterwards, he never demanded anything from me.
As I left, I felt somewhat distracted.
Yesterday, my grandmother seemed to want to set things up, and today Megan was talking about these things with me.
Even if I tried to stay focused, I was inevitably affected.
However, I didnât expect to see a familiar Cullinan as soon as I exited the Smith familyâs residence.
I quickened my pace towards the RollsâRoyce arranged by Madam Shaw to take me home.
Just as I was about to get in, a hand suddenly grabbed my wrist and pulled me in the opposite direction!
I was furious. âRyan, what are you doing?!â
âTaking you home for the New Year!â
Ryanâs voice was gruff and weary, but his grip was firm.
I found it incredibly amusing. âHome? We donât have anything to do with each other anymore!â
He was talking about going home for the New Year, even though he celebrated our wedding anniversary with someone else.
âIf we donât have a relationship, then letâs start one again.â
He was obsessively stubborn.
I struggled desperately. âBut I donât want toâ¦â

He abruptly turned around, pressing me against the car, his eyes red and showing signs of sleeplessness, veins bulging on his forehead. âThen who do you want to have a relationship with? Frank? Why are you coming to Jeswood for the New Year? Do you want to spend the New Year with him?â
I sneered. âItâs not up to you to decide. After the divorce, what I want to do is my own freedom.â
âCharlotte, I can give you freedom.â
His gaze was deep as he looked at me. He sighed and his expression seemed to soften. âBut the condition is, you must keep some distance from other menâ¦â
âMr. Frost, thatâs a funny thing to say.â
Not far away, a voice with a hint of mockery suddenly rang out. âWhen did it become your job to give her freedom?â
Ryanâs eyes widened, his tall and upright figure suddenly freezing in place.
Frankâs narrowed eyes were slightly raised as he turned to me. âArenât you coming over? Do you want me to beat him up?â
âCharlotte!â
Just as I was about to use the time that Ryan was distracted to slip away, he suddenly yelled in a violent tone, though his voice trembled slightly, âAre you⦠dating him?â
I turned my head away. âYes.â
He said sternly, âLook at me and say it!â
âYes!â I was getting irritated, staring straight into his eyes and speaking clearly. âIâm dating him! Are you happy now? Can you let go of me?â
The pressure on my hand instantly disappeared.
I couldnât tell if he let go willingly or just lost strengthâ¦
Soon, the black Cullinan drove away.
But this time, I no longer felt the same sense of being abandoned as before.
It felt more like a new beginning.
Frank snorted and said, âIf you donât want to let him go, I can get him to come back.â
âFrank.â
Hooked at the nonchalant man not far away and said as casually as I could, âWere you trying to help me because of our deal, or were you genuinely wanting to help?â
Few people could withstand a charming man repeatedly saving you from danger.
So, it was better to make some things clear.
He furrowed his brows slightly. âIs there a difference?â
