Chapter 387
âWhatâs next? Just confirming that heâs doing well will be enough.â
I was momentarily taken aback but quickly realized something. âI donât want to anticipate anything
anymore.
I canât really describe my feelings toward Frank. The only thought Iâve had over the past two years is hoping to hear from him, hoping that he is still alive and well.
The next day, Jane and I went to the Charlotte Jewelry together.
Austin had been promoted to Deputy Director of the Design Department and now had his own independent office.
When he saw me through the French windows at the company, he was overjoyed and rushed to Janeâs office, âMs. Wilson! Youâre finally back at the company. Iâve been looking forward to your return day and night.â
âYou missed her so much?â Jane teased with a smile. âWhen sheâs not here, youâre the one in charge, enjoying yourself. Why would you look forward to her coming back?â
In the two years I was away, the Charlotte Jewelry had grown rapidly, even leasing the office space on the floors below, totaling two floors.
Now, there were
quite a few people in the Design Department, and Austin had significant authority. Jane Insisted on keeping the position of Design Director vacant for me, so for the past two years, Austin had been the head of the Design Department.
Austin rubbed his head. âThatâs not quite it. Working under Ms. Wilson, you learn a lot more.â
âIt doesnât really matter if Iâm here or not.â I smiled. âI reviewed every design draft you submitted, especially yours. Iâve been the toughest on you.â
âHuh?â Austin was surprised. âSo, you were the one who did the final review every time?â
I nodded. âYes.â
After I went abroad, the final drafts were sent to Jane, who then forwarded them to me.
No one knew who the designer behind the Charlotte Jewelry was.
Plus, after I started working with my mentor, my design style became bolder and more innovative, and no one could guess it was me.
-Austin was both surprised and delighted, and joked with Jane, âMiss Greenwood, youâre not telling us
anything.
Thatâs right. Jane shrugged and joked, âIf I told you everything, youâd know the reviewer is someone familiar, and there might be some unrealistic hopes.â
Austin was passionate about design. After smiling, he looked back at me. âSo, does the fact that Iâve been Tejected fewer times in the past year mean Iâve made a lot of progress?â
âOf course. Even my mentor has recognized your design drafts.â

Austin couldnât help but ask, âThen the designer responsible for private custom designs isnât you, is it? If it is, I have to say, thatâs impressive. We were all amazed by the designs at this yearâs fashion show.â
âAlright, alright,â Jane interjected. âThere are too many questions. Youâll find out if you need to know.â
She then handed me a pile of resumes for the Design Department.
I was tasked with sorting through them.
The basic qualifications, like education, were screened by the HR department. My job was only to review past work.
The next day, lâhad an appointment with Yasmin at four oâclock in the afternoon, at a fiveâstar hotel.
Jane had been staying at my place these past few days, ostensibly to keep me company.
We set off together for the hotel.
Since someone of Yasminâs status was staying there, the hotel was very strict with its management, requiring a personal escort rather than just a phone call.
Yasmin was staying in the topâfloor presidential suite. An assistant greeted us in the living room and offered us tea.
They brought tea and said, âMiss Greenwood, Ms. Elena, please have some tea. You might need to wait a little while. Yasmin is with her daughter and will be out soon.â
âThank you.â Jane and I both smiled as we accepted the tea.
Even though she was staying in a hotel, Yasmin showed no signs of making do.
The air even had a faint scent of aromatherapy.
