Chapter 391
Hearing this, I was a bit surprised.
This time, it wasnât a threat.
Rather, he was willing to go with me to get the divorce certificate first and then give me time to think
about it.
It was a bit unlike Ryanâs usual style.
Opportunities were rare and fleeting. I agreed gladly and checked the time. âAlright, how about tomorrow? Is he available tomorrow afternoon?â
Gary hesitated for a moment and replied, âYes.â
âThen please tell him that weâll meet at the Civil Affairs Bureau at two oâclock in the afternoon tomorrow.â
I found that I didnât have much of an emotional reaction.
There was no sense of relief.
Nor was there any other emotion.
It felt as ordinary as arranging a meal with someone.
I even wondered why I had been so deeply entangled in the past, experiencing repeated pain and disappointment.
After hanging up, Gary walked into the CEOâs office.
He took a furtive glance at Ryanâs expression and dared not speak
Ryan was sitting in his office chair, lifting his gaze from the documents. His eyes, as cold as a still pond, scanned over, and his voice was chilling, âWhen did she schedule the divorce?â
âTwo oâclock in the afternoon tomorrow.â
Garyâs heart skipped a beat. Although he had been by Ryanâs side for many years, he found it increasingly difficult to gauge his bossâs temperament in recent years.
Ryanâs eyes darkened slightly, a touch of selfâmockery in his eyes. âAlright, I get the point.â
Gary, displaying great acumen, left and closed the door quietly.
Ryan stood up and walked to the French window, his entire figure bathed in the setting sunâs glow, nearly consumed by the surging emotions in his chest.
He didnât want to let her go so easily.
That night at the hotel, his instincts hadnât allowed her to pull her hand
But over the past two years, he often replayed the words she had said.
Perhaps, he had been too disrespectful to her,
away.
He had never properly communicated with her or cared about her thoughts.

He had allowed many misunderstandings and barriers to grow between them, leaving her battered and
bruised.
He would change.
He was changing.
The next day, to my surprise, I arrived ten minutes early, and Ryan was already waiting at the door.
The man, with his striking features, was wearing a suit I had tailored for him three years ago. Even now, the style was still fashionable, accentuating his upright posture.
Even without the past sentiments, looking at his face still left me unable to speak ill of him.
His pitchâblack eyes were fixed on me as I approached. âLetâs go.â
âOkay.â
The divorce certificate was processed in the lobby.
I watched as the steel seal was pressed onto the red booklet.
The fiveâyear marriage was officially declared over at that moment.
I took the certificate from the staff and handed Ryan the one that belonged to him. âThank you.â
He glanced at me and said softly, âWhat for?â
âI thought this divorce certificate would be very hard to get.â
He was quite honest. âIf it were before, it indeed would have been.â
I looked at him in surprise. âYou⦠have changed quite a bit.â
His gaze softened/ âDoes it make me less unpleasant?
âIndeed.â I smiled and waved the divorce certificate. âRyan, happy divorce.â
He smiled faintly, but his eyes were tinged with sadness. In an instant, his expression returned to calm, and his voice was cold. âWhere⦠have you been these past two years?â
âFrankes.â
I didnât hide anything.
He didnât ask further and walked out of the Civil Affairs Bureau with me.
The summer heat hit us immediately.
I turned to him. âIt might take me some time to make your suit. Also, my fees have increased.â
He wasnât short of money, but it was better to be clear about it.
